[LU] Hull

2024-04-02 Thread nattan--- via Leedslist
Well that went from worry to relief to ecstasy very quickly. On 85 minutes it
looked like a pretty poor performance was going to end with 2 points dropped,
then by 89 it was relief all round as 2-1 would be enough,  then total fun and
laughter as James scored as great a goal to watch as you can get, the ball
heading goalwards as the keeper was miles away, one bounce , is it on target?
Yes as it nestled into the side of net , brilliant and cue MOT and i predict a
riot as Georginio brought Matteo over to do the h ay ay ay
celebrations.

Pre game we knew Leicester had won,  Ipswich were 2 2 as we left the pub but
had won before we got to the taxi,  so we had to win or risk falling a bit
behind.
We started well, an amazing run by Georginio led to him feeding Summerville
whose shot was well saved but as the ball looped up Sam Byram leapt like a
salmon at the far post and headed ( faced?)  it in.
A bit later a lovely cross by James was met by Bamford sliding in to poke home
- 2 0  and game as good as over,  except somehow Paddy caught it with his shin
and it went miles over, a terrible miss.
After that we lost our way and Hull took complete control.  Luckily apart from
their goal they did not really create any real chances.  The goal came as one
lad skipped through a few half hearted challenges and crossed into the box, the
forward got in ahead of Rodon (?) and finished well.
We were chasing shadows a bit, Kamara having a mare, Gray showing why he is not
first choice midfield yet. Bamford got no service as the whole team struggled.
Hull were very comfortable apart from one scramble when Georginio,  Summerville
and Firpo all had shots blocked.
Second half was similar with us finding it hard to get or keep the ball and
many players looking tired and below par. Then on 70 came the subs and we found
some energy and a bit of impetus.  We started to create a few half chances,
Gray was denied what looked like a penalty,  Matteo hit the post, Firpo should
have scored with a header. Then as the game was looking like a draw ,
Summerville ran down the wing  took on the full back  beating him with ease,
but then being 'taken out' before he could cross. 100% a penalty but stupid
defending.
Cue a very odd moment- Firpo took the ball, we all thought it was just the
modern way , one player pretends to take it then hands to the actual taker when
everything has setlled down. Here Summerville took it off him as Piroe came to
grab it ( double bluff?) . Then Summerville refused to give it up and Ampadu
got involved - it looked bad and the pressure on Summerville was ramped up " he
had better score " was said by many of us.  No need to worry - Summerville was
as casual as you can be , sending  the keeper one way and rolling the ball down
the middle. As much relief as celebration in the crowd.
Just see it out now - 7 minutes mainly added on due to their time wasting could
still cost us, especially when Georginio instead of hammering the ball away
gave it to a Hull player on the edge of the area.
Their keeper was up for a corner and stayed up - big mistake as we cleared the
ball to Piroe on the wing, instead of kicking it as far as he could he fed DJ ,
we hoped/ expected him to put his head down and run to their corner flag,
instead he knew the keeper was nowhere and shot from just inside their half,
the rest is history, one bounce and 3 1. DJ rammed the " who let his country
down " chants from the Hull fans down their throats
So 3pts to us Leicester and Ipswich as Southampton are probably out of the
race, so 2 from 3 and it is anyones guess who will do what.
A great result after a hard game, 5 or 6 days now to get Gruev ( who was badly
missed ) fit and hopefully Rodon,  Kamara and Byram back to 100% - all had
issues yesterday
Six games to go, none will be easy but Coventry away next time up is perhaps
the most difficult- (that and Boro-)  so a win by any means necessary will do
Come on Leeds

Dave,

You didn't mention Connor, do you think we missed him too? From the
comfort of the armchair I pondered this at length.

[LU] Bryn Law!

2024-04-02 Thread Robert Heath
One of many great pleasures of this season has been the commentary on LUTV.
Bryn Law & Tony Dorigo are 24 carat diamonds, and the former's rising
crescendo of Summerville, *Summerville*, SUMMERVILLE!! as Cree dances
in from the left to score is unforgettable.

Sadly, I can't afford to pay a tenner for summat I can get free, so if our
game is on Sky I don't watch it on LUTV.so it was only this
morning looking for the highlights that I watched DJ's goal with LUTV
commentary. If you haven't already seen (and heard) it, watch it now! Bryn
Law's description is a CLASSIC!

P.S. Watching it as I've done about 100 times today, I am struck by quite
what a brilliant pass Piroe gave to allow James to shoot.

Gruev was a much bigger miss.

Dan James’ goal… how long have I waited to see a keeper up for a corner, caught
out.

Just keep ploughing on, it’s all we can do.
