Re: [LU] Dave Dowden.

2023-01-13 Thread Graham Palmer
Very sad to hear this. A name I know well from the list. Not sure that I ever
met him - I did once go to watch the Lards at Hinckley Town and chatted with a
few listers, though never actually managed to get names (I seem to remember
chatting to the Princesses of Tonga for a while).
RIP mate, if I may call you that - we’re all mates here, aren’t we?

Cheers,

[LU] The Glory Years plus…

2022-04-22 Thread Graham Palmer
Hi all,
Having a bit of a clear out and have a set of videotapes including The Glory
Years and season reviews from 90/91 to 2001/2 plus one about Argentina’s World
Cup 1990 and a few music videos (Fleetwood Mac, Eric Clapton, ZZ Top) and a
history of Leeds. If you don’t have a VCR player to watch them I’m also moving
my Panasonic player on, so you’ve no excuse for missing out.
I’m in Nottingham, but we can sort out arrangements once you’ve decided that
you’d like these. I’m not asking for anything for these, just to cover any
expenses incurred.
As far as I’m aware they all play fine (it’s been a while!) - only reason I’m
getting rid is storage space is required.
Drop me a message if you’re interested.

Cheers
Graham

Re: [LU] Decimalisation Day!

2021-02-16 Thread Graham Palmer
I seem to remember it was 6/6 in the Kop, but I don’t think they had a boys
entrance. It was 5/6 in the Lowfields & 3/- for boys. This may have been a bit
before decimalisation, though. When I first started going at the end of 1967 we
stood in the Shed, then we progressed to the Lowfields. I had a season ticket
in the West Stand Paddock for a bit and started going in the Kop around 1973.

If you are going to deliberately miss a pen, and try to hide the intent, surely
you would blast it over the bar?

Just a thought...

The home leg was the first cup final I ever attended, and after the 2nd (1972)
I thought I was a lucky omen. Unfortunately, the 3rd (1973) and 4th (1975)
proved otherwise - but I have to say I am not responsible for any subsequent
final losses, as I didn't attend those.

I seem to remember, from the abandoned 1st leg match, that Eddie Gray tripped
over a puddle and did himself some quite serious damage. Am I imagining this?

And didn't Capello score in the 1st leg (2nd game obv)?

No - but the bugger still owes me a bottle of malt from about 15 years ago. I
should add that he did offer to hand it over at a game, but I'm such an
armchair fan that I haven't taken him up on it yet (don't think he's heard of
parcelforce)

Probably proves your point (I'm not actually from Wakey, though I did go to
school there)

As a digester, I've only just seen this thread. I was going to suggest using
those tubes you get with miniature whisky bottles (you can get £2 coins in
them!) - but I suppose they'd have to be 18 to use those.

[LU] Surprised no-one else has mentioned this

2012-08-29 Thread Graham Palmer

...or have I missed it?

Here in Nottingham there is a Sky Sports poster I pass every day, and I've only
just noticed who is the star player that is featured as the main item - no less
than our beloved (look away now, Rich Walker) Luciano. No, not a star of the
premiership, as I would have expected, but our star striker himself. Perhaps
his image rights are the cheapest?

By the way, Danny Webber's there too.

Surely this poster site in Nottingham can't be the only place in the country to
show off our star? Anyone else seen it?

Cheers

Graham

PS There seems to be a new Complete Record of Leeds United coming out soon (may
already be out), if anyone's interested. I like this sort of thing.

I'm a long-time (feels like it, anyway) lurker/digester. Been on-list since mid
to late 90s, with a brief break in 2001 I think, after being made redundant.

Never had much to say, so no-one will have heard of me, though a fair few have
corresponded briefly (and Martyn Brown still owes me for a Bristol Rovers prog
he 'bought' from me for a mate of his about 10 years ago)

[LU] NonLU: ESPN

2012-01-24 Thread Graham Palmer

Did anyone else take Sky up on their offer of 2 months free ESPN just before
the Arsenal game? Part of the deal was that you have to give 31 days notice to
cancel. I finally found a phone number t0 contact them (as you don't seem to be
able to downgrade online, only upgrade)and dully gave my 31 days notice
yesterday and was told I had until 23 Feb to view anything I had Sky+d and view
ESPN. Tonight I had a look, and they've disconnected me already. I did fill in
the feedback form they sent, but wondered if I am alone in this? Can't say I'm
that bothered, but that's not the point

Re: [LU] Subject now is "Ye Liste Meete of olde"

2012-01-11 Thread Graham Palmer

I joined the list when we got internet access at work in about 98, I think -
mostly as a lurker (as I can imagine you all going "Who is this?")
Only met a few of you - went to Hinckley Town for one of the footie comps (as a
spectator), and met up with Maggie in the Fellows in Nottingham before a Forest
match. I also met someone on the list (can't remember who) at the Besiktas game
when we had both won VIP tickets, and were having a nosh before the game.
You'll gather that I usually have nothing much to say - but I do read the list
(digest) avidly - and I think I'm getting thumb strain from scrolling on my
phone, as per the posts the other day.
Oh, and I did organise a poll of the best albums one close season (made a
change from curry houses) - I think OK Computer and Automatic For The people
came out top.

Could I have an invite too, please?

Anyone know how Google selected who to invite in the first place? I have a
Gmail account and also use Chrome (can't remember whether I had to give any
personal details for this though). I'd have thought they'd have sent me one
already :o( Mind you, they probably know what a miserable git I am and don't
interact with anyone, so didn't bother. I'm just a nosey bugger, really.
