[LU] NON LU: Bayern
If you're one of those still grieving over what happened in 1975, don't read this! I put all that to bed decades ago. However, as it's been a major European footballing event and being a large source of entertainment for me, I thought it shouldn't escape a mention on these pages. So, what a football lesson for the mighty Barcelona. Pretty much a repeat of the first leg. I haven't seen anything like this over the two legs for a very long time. Bayern outeverythinged them. Particularly pleasing for me as I'm not a fan of the endless tippy tappy boring passing game that Barce always play (and appear to have no plan B) compared to the controlled blood and thunder attacks that Bayern stage contrasted by their own passing game when it suited them as if to take the mick out of the Barce ethic on their home patch. I have a German work colleague who is very anti Bayern, but he agreed reluctantly that after the first leg they were incredible. Roll on the final, I could watch this style all day. Dortmund will probably win after all that, which is fine by me as long as we get more of the same. The Dortmund performance in the first leg was quite similar too, almost took Real apart at will. Last night Barcelona looked so frail in defence they were scared to attack Bayern to overturn the deficit. Guardiola is walking into a right mess of a squad at Bayern next season isn't he! I don't watch many games these days, in fact I struggle to wade through highlights programmes sometimes. I started watching Arsenal and Bayern last night and watched it all in the end. Bayern were superb I thought and a pleasure to watch. Arsenal did have a go, but the gap in quality and speed was just too great. When Arsenal got the corner that lead to their goal (shocker of a decision when the deflected shot clearly came off the Arsenal player) I did think how unfair it would be if they scored from it - they did! A great game to witness though. I'd turn up to watch this standard week in week out! - Original Message - I am totally convinced 1975 was match fixing, and as for Beckenbauer, what a toss pot. Best information sources available suggest that Milan fixed the ECWC final but that it was UEFA who fixed 1975, not Bayern. 1975 was fixed in retaliation for Leeds complaining about 1973. I watched Barce many times on TV, perhaps I've not seen of their real? matches. They bore me with all their incessant and predictable passing. I reckon the oppo lose due to boredom too, what a way to win matches! I've seen Messi quite a bit (who hasn't) and I'm still waiting to see him do something that allows him to live up to his wonder tag. At the moment, my main memory of him is against Chelsea in the Chumps League where he missed a penalty and lost possession allowing Chelsea to score. Bayern are very different and much more direct, cutting and play a faster game - for me, much more entertaining.
