[LU] NON LU: Bayern

2013-05-02 Thread Sutton / Smail
If you're one of those still grieving over what happened in 1975, don't read
this! I put all that to bed decades ago.
However, as it's been a major European footballing event and being a large
source of entertainment for me, I thought it shouldn't escape a mention on
these pages.

So, what a football lesson for the mighty Barcelona. Pretty much a repeat of
the first leg. I haven't seen anything like this over the two legs for a
very long time. Bayern outeverythinged them.
Particularly pleasing for me as I'm not a fan of the endless tippy tappy
boring passing game that Barce always play (and appear to have no plan B)
compared to the controlled blood and thunder
attacks that Bayern stage contrasted by their own passing game when it
suited them as if to take the mick out of the Barce ethic on their home
patch.

I have a German work colleague who is very anti Bayern, but he agreed
reluctantly that after the first leg they were incredible.

Roll on the final, I could watch this style all day. Dortmund will probably
win after all that, which is fine by me as long as we get more of the
same.

The Dortmund performance in the first leg was quite similar too, almost
took Real apart at will.
Last night Barcelona looked so frail in defence they were scared to attack
Bayern to overturn the deficit.

Guardiola is walking into a right mess of a squad at Bayern next season
isn't he!

[LU] Bayern

2013-02-20 Thread Sutton / Smail
I don't watch many games these days, in fact I struggle to wade through
highlights programmes sometimes. I started watching Arsenal and Bayern last
night and watched it all in the end. Bayern were superb I thought and a
pleasure to watch. Arsenal did have a go, but the gap in quality and speed
was just too great. When Arsenal got the corner that lead to their goal
(shocker of a decision when the deflected shot clearly came off the Arsenal
player) I did think how unfair it would be if they scored from it - they
did! A great game to witness though. I'd turn up to watch this standard
week in week out!

I agree. In that case watch Barca. Especially the Real matches. Messi is an
inspiration.
TBH I greatly admire ManU especially Sir Rudolph. I really admire Everton
and what Moyes has done.
But when you look at the PL most are light years ahead of us now.
That evil bastard Bates. Both Arsenal Leeds prove that you cannot sell the
better players because it makes economic sense.
Apropos economic viability :
We once have a seminar on how to make the medical delivery system
economically viable. I suggested that we cut out all expenses by stopping
giving 'costly ' medication. We then increase our income by making a
strategic alliance with the local burial society.
Went down as well as my other pearler:
We opened a new clinic. In the spirit of gung ho entrepreneurial state of
the art managerial initiatives we were invited to pick a name that would
encapsulate all the needs and desires of the clinic's prospective users.
I suggested we call it by the name of our chief rival.
Unfortunately modern managers are a bunch of jumped up force fed battery hen
like morons. Anything beginning with a 'H' is bred out of them:- Honesty,
honour , humility and humour.

Best information sources available suggest that Milan fixed the ECWC final but
that it was UEFA who fixed 1975, not Bayern. 1975 was fixed in retaliation for
Leeds complaining about 1973.
If this is correct then Bayern benefitted but were not complicit.

I watched Barce many times on TV, perhaps I've not seen of their real?
matches. They bore me with all their incessant and predictable passing. I
reckon the oppo lose due to boredom too, what a way to win matches!
I've seen Messi quite a bit (who hasn't) and I'm still waiting to see him do
something that allows him to live up to his wonder tag. At the moment, my
main memory of him is against Chelsea in the Chumps League where he missed
a penalty and lost possession allowing Chelsea to score. Bayern are very
different and much more direct, cutting and play a faster game - for me,
much more entertaining.

1975, let me think? I was 17 and passed my driving test. At almost 40 years ago
now, any archived memories that I retain about Bayern are hugely outweighed by
what I saw last night making an Up for it Arsenal look the away team for long
spells. Bygones can rest in peace especially when anyone associated with the
club in that year may possible be staring at wall paper and dribbling these

a team playing to a high level that I just happened to watch on TV last night.
I'll tip my hat to any team that can offer such a slick performance smothered
in a wrapper of  high entertainment regardless of  history or past encounters.

I completely agree. Bayern represent all that is wrong with football, wrapped
up in one club. I will ALWAYS want them to lose. I can never forgive them for
1975. Their cheating changed the entire history of our club.

Cheers!

Bygones can rest in peace especially when anyone
associated with the club in that year may possible be staring at wall paper

and dribbling these days if not departed the land of the  living

Beckenbauer is club president, isn't he? Still remember him moaning  at the
linesman, getting Lorimer's perfectly good goal disallowed because  Bremner
was in an offside position, though not interfering with play. I'm not
forgiving anyone there.
