I see that Austin has not only been recalled but has been made captain - not sure yet if this is just for today or for the season (it may depend on whether Brian gets his man as far as transfers in goes) Also we will not know till it starts if Austin is a straight replacement for Tonge or if he will replace Green at the bottom of the diamond and Green moves up alongside Murphy) I think Ausitn could be tailor made for that holding role at the base of the diamond - whilst Greenh has played well there he does get caught in possession too often - we were lucky a few times v Chesterfield that him losing the ball in dangerous places did not cost us Time will tell. Austin is a liability - a wall of muscle and steel perhaps, but badly lacking skill or vision. Also, seems to incur a lot of bookings and suspensions. I'd get rid now instead of wasting resources trying to make him into something he quite clearly isn't. Strong words perhaps, but he's poor. 0-0 then at Leicester - dour old game perhaps, but it's early days for all. Defeat avoided must be a plus against a promotion favourite on their patch. Would have been more heartening had we created something. Anyway, I'll take the point gratefully. Well I thought it was a good solid performance. We stopped them playing, we didn't carry any passengers and stopped them from playing. Austin man of match, whatever next! Not so much football more life I suppose One man's poison is another man's medicine. If every team has to carry a luxury donkey, then Rudy must be ours (captaincy and all) I used to get the same feeling when Carlton Palmer was on the ball or challenging somebody, but there was a comedy element with his playing style that made it vaguely entertaining if not unpredictable. I don't see this in Austin - he's predictably and consistently a poor passer and a conceder of free kicks. He will have better matches I'm sure from time to time and I'll be the first to congratulate him if and when he turns the corner. In the meantime though, he'll cost us.
