I'm also in the market for a telescope and in the same boat. If you could share
any off list hints on list that would be awesome.

My dad is into astronomy and bought my son a celestron telescope for Christmas.
Not sure how much he paid but it seems pretty good - you can see jupiter's 4
largest moons through it.
I think there's some info on the bbc site - either sky at night or stargazing
live.
You could check out if there's an astronomy club near where you live, they
might be able to offer advice.

With "£200 and a complete novice" we could probably get you on the board at LUFC

Follow virtual Astro on Twitter. He often tweets about good telescopes.

Btw I haven't a clue

[LU] Completely NON LU advice request

2016-03-10 Thread David Brennan
I had a birthday recently and got some dosh off my family and I want to buy a
telescope for star gazing.

I've been looking on line and the choice is bewildering.

I know there are boffins and scientists on here, and one of the best things
about this list is the knowledge members are willing to share, so does anyone
have any helpful advice on what to get? I've got 200 quid and am a complete
novice.

Feel free to reply off list, unless you think talking about astronomy is more
interesting than Leeds United (which it may well be from time to time).

Thanks.
