The over-rated, self-important twat Morrissey is going to be touring the US

I'm considering a holiday in the US to take in several of his gigs, but I'm
afraid this might deprive me of the pleasure of watching Leeds United in the
play-offs.

I would welcome the lists views as to whether Leeds are going to make the
play-offs, or whether I should forget that possibility and go and watch some
dillusional retard saying controversial things.

First album, 'still ill', 'what difference does it make?' and 'this charming
man', all class. You're right though, the production is shit.

I agree with David Cameron that 'the queen is dead' is the best album - but
that's probably the only thing I would ever admit to agreeing with him on.

Re: [LU] Fwd: RE: LUST lose credibility in one fail swoop

2014-02-14 Thread E Walsh
of their victim Keith Bennett. “Of course, had Keith been a child of
privilege or moneyed background, the search would never have been called
off. But he was a poor, gawky boy from Manchester’s forgotten side streets
and minus the blond fantasy fetish of a cutesy Madeleine McCann.”

It’s what’s left out of this book rather than what’s put in that is
strangest. There is an absence of music, not just in its tone, but the
content. There are emetic pools of limpid prose about the music business,
the ingratitude of fellow musicians and band members and the lack of talent
in other performers, but there is nothing about the making of music itself,
the composing of lyrics, the process of singing or the emotion of creation.
He seems to assume we will already know his back catalogue and can hum along
to his recorded life. This is 450 pages of what makes Morrissey, but nothing
of what Morrissey makes.

There is the peevishness at managers, record labels and bouncers, a list of
opaque court cases, all of which he manages to lose unfairly, due to the
inherited stupidity of judges. Even his relation with the audience is
equivocal. Morrissey likes them when they’re worshipping from a distance,
but he is not so keen when they’re up close. As an adolescent he approaches
Marc Bolan for an autograph. Bolan refuses and Morrissey, still awkwardly
humiliated after all these years, has the last word. But then later in the
book and life, he does exactly the same thing to his own fans without
apparent irony.

There is little about his private life. A boyfriend slips in and out with
barely a namecheck. This is him on his early sexual awakening: “Unfathomably

plunging after that.

There are many pop autobiographies that shouldn’t be written. Some to
protect the unwary reader, and some to protect the author. In Morrissey’s
case, he has managed both. This is a book that cries out like one of his
maudlin ditties to be edited. But were an editor to start, there would be no
stopping. It is a heavy tome, utterly devoid of insight, warmth, wisdom or
likeability. It is a potential firelighter of vanity, self-pity and
logorrhoeic dullness. Putting it in Penguin Classics doesn’t diminish
Aristotle or Homer or Tolstoy; it just roundly mocks Morrissey, and this is
a humiliation constructed by the self-regard of its victim.

2014-02-14 Thread Ian Murray
is sometimes risible but mostly dull, like listening
to neighbours bicker through a partition wall, and occasionally startlingly
unpleasant, such as the reference to the Moors murderers and the unfound
grave of their victim Keith Bennett. “Of course, had Keith been a child of
privilege or moneyed background, the search would never have been called off.
But he was a poor, gawky boy from Manchester’s forgotten side streets and
minus the blond fantasy fetish of a cutesy Madeleine McCann.”

It’s what’s left out of this book rather than what’s put in that is
strangest. There is an absence of music, not just in its tone, but the
content. There are emetic pools of limpid prose about the music business, the
ingratitude of fellow musicians and band members and the lack of talent in
other performers, but there is nothing about the making of music itself, the
composing of lyrics, the process of singing or the emotion of creation. He
seems to assume we will already know his back catalogue and can hum along to
his recorded life. This is 450 pages of what makes Morrissey, but nothing of
 what Morrissey makes.

There is the peevishness at managers, record labels and bouncers, a list of
opaque court cases, all of which he manages to lose unfairly, due to the
inherited stupidity of judges. Even his relation with the audience is
equivocal. Morrissey likes them when they’re worshipping from a distance, but
he is not so keen when they’re up close. As an adolescent he approaches Marc
Bolan for an autograph. Bolan refuses and Morrissey, still awkwardly
humiliated after all these years, has the last word. But then later in the
book and life, he does exactly the same thing to his own fans without
 apparent irony.

There is little about his private life. A boyfriend slips in and out with
barely a namecheck. This is him on his early sexual awakening: “Unfathomably
I had several cupcake grapples in this year of 1973… Plunge or no plunge,
girls remain mysteriously attracted to me.” There is precious little plunging

What Morrissey says about Keith Bennett carries
 a ring of truth.

I didn't see the twat out on the moors with a spade or doing anything of real
purpose EVER in fact, just carping from the side-lines in sunny LA! As for
saying blond fantasy fetish of a cutesy Madeleine McCann about a little girl
almost certainly murdered just shows him up for the disconnected lonely tosser
that he comes over in his songs. Most Students in the 80's grew up and got a
life, he spent all his time being told how wonderful he was and was never able
to form even the most basic of human relationships. Without Marr, he'd be
hanging around the parks in Manchester with a bottle of White Lightning for
company.

That's a bit harsh Nick. I have fallen out of love (man love) with Morrisey

However, how could I ever forget the hours, days and months I spent listening
to Hatful of Hollow on my little tape recorder with C90 tape (copied illegally
of course) whilst I was desperately trying to work out what the feck calculus

well Rich that has cast you in a whole new light in my eyes...always had you
down as more of a Spandau Ballet man...but hey.

I reckon I'm probably 5 years older than you based on that - the Smiths came out
when I was just about 18 and while I can cope with the music, the
self-aggrandising blather of lead gladoili abuser was/is repugnant - when you've
grown up with the bands from a few years earlier that just never washed. As
someone said, without Marr he'd have been an unhappy librarian writing indignant
letters to the Daily Mail.

My younger sister and her mates liked the Smiths - they were wrong as well.

PS - no-one knows what the feck calculus is - I mean approach a fixed point at a
constant speed but never arrive (I can understand you not wanting to if
Birmingham is the fixed point...but please)

Adrian Gill is not eloquent. He is verbose.

(I was once part in a writers' room that had to come up with questions for him

I am also fond of the joke by John-Luke Roberts: AA Gill is the friend of
Jeremy Clarkson. He reviews food and television, and Jeremy reviews cars and
foreigners. They help each other cope with all the terrible food, cars,
television and foreigners they have to eat, drive, watch and imagine.

subhuman. The context (as ever) was animal rights.

Did you see the thing on the news about their treatment of animals and animal
welfare? Absolutely horrific. You can't help but feel that the Chinese are a
subspecies.

Morrissey is indeed clearly not intelligent and a racist (he called the

Why is it we're so quick to accept the words of a serial liar and two
  guys
we've never heard of before, who have an obvious vested interest, over
  an
organised collective of fellow Leeds fans?
My reading of this statement is out of the frying pan and into the fire.
Like Bates, GFH have no money.
Like Bates, GFH are in it for themselves.
Like Bates, GFH have shown that they have no regard for real fans.
Like Bates, we'll probably be bust within 18 months again!
Therefore let me be the first to say HAIGH OUT!!!
  Cheers

morrissey?!

Morrissey caused more controversy when stating We all live in a murderous
world, as the events in Norway have shown, with 97 [sic] dead. Though that is
nothing compared to what happens inMcDonald's and Kentucky Fried Shit every
day,[136][137] in reference to the recent attacks of Anders Breivik in Norway
on 22 July, which resulted in the killing of 69 people who were attending a
Youth Labour Party camp on Utøya Island, and eight people working in and around
a government building which was bombed.

but hey... I m not going to attack you and bitch about being deeply offended.
unlike some.

by the way: spot the obvious error in the quote above.

Morrissey is a legend.

He says controversial things to wind people like you up, and it works.
