Re: [LU] Nigel Adkins ??

2013-02-20 Thread Richard Walker
and lets get a reality check here. We're talking about Adkins as if he's
managed this 'tin pot' club to successive promotions and 5 wins out of 24 in
the premier legue on a shoestring.

He's spent a fooking fortune - fat boy Billy Sharper cost nearly 2 million and
he was one of their cheaper signings. I was amazed to see they had spent nearly
40 million including 13 million on 1 player (Ramirez) and even when Adkins was
in the lower leagues he was shelling out millions for players (Ricky Lambert,
Jose Fonte). Incredible. He is a spectacular failure.

Do you think if Warnock had a few million we wouldn't be in the playoffs or
auto promotion this year ? If he could buy a Ricky Lambert or a Gary Hooper -
of course we would.

Can't see how he is over rated.

Look at scunthorpe. Tiny little club to mid table championship club, exactly
what we are now!

Took southampton from league 1 to prem destroying us live on tv on way. They
weren't in the relegation zone, that's the benchmark for promoted clubs!

I didn't say he was shit I just don't think he's a top manager - he failed in
the premier league - his team have won 6 out of 26 games and one of those
victories , the best one was after he'd been sacked.

I don't like him either - smarmy twat.

Re: [LU] Nigel Adkins ??

2013-02-19 Thread Graham Longbottom
Plus they had a bitch of a start to their first Prem season.
Man City, Man U and Arsenal were 3 of their first 4 games, so they were
always going to start poorly, and firmly rooted to the bottom of prem.
Coming back from that was a great performance IMHO.

Rich,

What qualifies as success in the Premier League in your book for a not-very-big
club that's achieved back-to-back promotions from League 1? To a lot of people
simply not getting relegated would count as success.

Cheers!

2013-02-19 Thread Richard Walker
I didn't say he was shit I just don't think he's a top manager - he failed in
the premier league - his team have won 6 out of 26 games and one of those
victories , the best one was after he'd been sacked.

I don't like him either - smarmy twat.

By the same logic, Wenger must be a brilliant manager because he hasn't been
sacked even though he hasn't had success for years.

Well, Southampton were 15th in the Premier League and had lost only
two of the previous 12 games when Cortese sacked him. That's not bad
for a team that's achieved back-to-back promotions from League 1.

Cheers!

Shame his middle name doesn't begin with an "L", 'cos "Is Elland King" would
be a great omen!

Having said that, his middle name is "Howard", so maybe that's a good omen
anyway?

If you put that in the anagram mix though, then you could have "Danger, a
kid who nils", which is ominious...

Re: [LU] Nigel Adkins ??

2013-02-19 Thread John Lee
Well looking at all the comments from Warnock, it looks like he's after an
early pay-off, and I hope we accomodate him! Adkins-era Southampton were patchy
in the prem, but that new guy has turned them into something a bit more
enterprising. I kind of remember Adkins from Scunny, and he sorted them out -
I'm always a bit unsure of these evangelical types, although that's probably
because I'm a cynical old tw*t who's heard enough psycho-babble to last a
lifetime, so hearing a footie manager say it always makes me cringe! All in all
though, LUFC have to change the entire mentality around the club - build from
the team upwards, get rid of the cynicism. Mind you, with the new 'owners'
basically hanging around for a big pay-day I don'y know how that will pan out?
I just hope we see the end of 30+ yr old donkeys who can't get a game anywhere
else.

Hope they wouldn't go down the Di Cannio route, for all the reasons always
touched on. We need common-sense, not a madman!
