Re: [LU] Wood / Bridcutt
and that's what I was saying all last season Dave, despite Wood's goals. Yes he scored a shedload but I consistently said in my match reports that the style of play with him in the side as a lone striker wouldn't be good enough for promotion. I also think his general play is not good enough for a promotion winning team, and so it turned out to be. I think he will be a spectacular failure for Burnley unless they've got 2 wingers who can put the ball on sixpence in the 6 yard back week in week out. I don't think they have. I think the set up we've got now will involve more counter attacks and runs from midfield which put him in strange territory for the first two league games and he showed that when he has to think about things he doesn't have that natural goalscorers instinct. I have very glad to see him go and for £15 million plus ... well I'd put that in our top 3 transfer successes of all time. From: "nat...@sky.com"To: Leeds List Sent: Monday, 21 August 2017, 15:44 Subject: [LU] Wood / Bridcutt It now looks like Bridcutt will be following Wood out of the door I liked Wood and thought he was outstanding for us last year and would have got us 20 goals this time around BUT that is because our whole game revolved around him and our one plan was to feed him the ball so he could score (which he did) - we can , if we get the right replacement or if Ekuban comes good, be a much different team up front and get more players to score the same amount of goals.I am not sure if his two misses this season are due to him not fitting into our new way of playing or just bad luck / poor finishing. Wood liked the ball crossed to his feet , not being played through against the keeper. I think he will do Ok for Burnley (but don't care one way or the other) and I do not blame any player for going to a Premier League club - the timing of Wood's move does stink a bit - everyone knew or could anticipate after his goals last season that someone would make an offer for him. I hope that we have been making a few discreet enquiries behind the scenes and find a good replacement without having to act hastily I am impressed with Radz comments about how and why he left and even better I like the free refund on 'Wood 9' shirts - a good move Re Bridcutt - I liked him when he was on loan but never really got the clamour for us to sign him. Once he became a permanent player he did have as many poor games as good and I do prefer Vieira to him, I think Vieira has a lot more to offer. Given that he is 5th in line for 2 positions , maybe 6th if Anita is veiwed as a centre mid - O'Kane and Phillips look like first choice with Vieira and Klitch as back-up, I understand why Bridcutt wants to go. I would make sure he cannot play against us on Saturday since he is capable of doing well in any given game. I was very impressed with the Sunderland performance and hope that Saiz and Alioski can really kick on from that game. Maybe Roofe, with whom I am losing belief and patience, will get the chance to play up front tomorrow v Newport and get a couple of goals I know nothing about Gestede or Van Grot, two players we are being linked with - not sure about Rhodes or Nanki Wells either - I think they have a lot of faults in their games but in the right team they could do OK ___ Leedslist mailing list Info and options: https://mailman.gn.apc.org/mailman/listinfo/leedslist To unsubscribe, email leedslist-unsubscr...@gn.apc.org FLAME WARS 'R US ___ Leedslist mailing list Info and options: https://mailman.gn.apc.org/mailman/listinfo/leedslist To unsubscribe, email leedslist-unsubscr...@gn.apc.org FLAME WARS 'R US
Re: [LU] Wood
I think we now need a marquee signing, a la Strachan/Vinnie. Two real up and coming forwards, pacy with it, would be nice though! I think Radz has done well so far, but a couple more 0-0s and there will be some grumbling being aired! Good luck to Wood - I can't see the dollop making it, but then I've never liked Burnley so should be a good match :-) Sent from my iPad > On 19 Aug 2017, at 11:33, Jeremy Adamswrote: > > He has bought the ground back Rich, and seems to be investing in fixing up > Elland Road, not direct team investment I know but he has supported a slew of > signings as well, some of whom actually look like a bargain and not just > Cellino's chums from Italy. > > > > > From: Leedslist on behalf of {broken-address} > Richard Walker > Sent: Saturday, August 19, 2017 2:20:29 AM > To: leedslist@gn.apc.org > Subject: [LU] Wood > > Twitter reporting Leeds have agreed £15 million for Wood, medical today. > If true, I think this is the best deal in LUFC history and daylight robbery. > Wood will not make it in the PL especially with a struggling team. > on a wider point Radrizzani getting lots of praise for the money is ploughing > in to the club, however he's pocketed 6 million for Taylor and now £15 > million for Wood - what big transfers have we seen come in ? Re: [LU] Wood
> and there's no real argument against that in this day and age. Yeah, the players have almost all the power now, it’s a brave rich owner who will just let a player hang around in the stiffs rather than let him go – I suspect Coutinho and Costa will both get the moves they want by the end of the month. However I think the “players were more loyal in the olden days” meme is a bit over played. The wages available were miniscule then and there weren’t any billionaires offering unlimited riches. Most of the owners of clubs knew each other and there were informal agreements to keep wages down. It wasn’t really until the 80’s the emergence of “Agents” and the newmoney owners coming in along with the Bosman ruling that Players’ loyalty was really tested and then found wanting. What would have happened if scum had offered Billy 5 times his Leeds wages? ttfn Richard From: Richard Walker [mailto:richleed...@yahoo.co.uk] Sent: 19 August 2017 13:45 To: Richard Naef <rich...@triumph-computers.co.uk>; leedslist@gn.apc.org Subject: Re: [LU] Wood yes he did get mccormack and Lewis Cook money and to be honest I'm playing devil's advocate but if Wood goes this fella will get no stick yet Bates and Cellino were murdered for selling our best players. Yes, he's obviously got more cash than Cellino - of that there is no doubt but if you look at it from another perspective he is about to pocket £21 million from transfers and all we've seen are a collection of foreign recruits some of which are struggling to get in the team. Is our team better that the one we finished last season ? Not sure. Let's see how much of that £21 million is ploughed back into the team or how much will be used to recoup the 20 million he paid for the stadium ?
