These are DC motors right? low speed is what you need for the X axis
movement (carriage movement.), If you use that 92 prm motor with a speed
control on it, I would think that your working/cutting speeds should be
something like 0- 40 rpm max.( perhaps a little higher, depending on what
type of cut you are making.) The crank handle or acme screw is 4 turns per
inch, It dose not need to turn fast in order to move, slow and controllable
 speed is with you need.
Now if you are looking for the spindle drive motor, (turning the drive
spindle with the motor the higher speed is needed.) higher speeds are what
 you want for that.
Here are my two motors, and limmit switch that Ive made.

 Hi all.
Which one do you recomend for Axis X and Axis A Drive Motor Dayton 4Z128B
 or 4Z381A?
 4Z128B 1/8 HP. 11:1 Gear-box ratio. 167 RPM Final output speed. 43
 Inch-pounds torque.
 4Z381A 1/8 HP. ? Gear-box ratio. 92RPM Final output speed. 77 Inch-pounds
 torque.
What is more impotant for each axis? High speed and low torque or low
 speed and high torque?
 Thanks.

Re: Drive Motor Dayton 4Z128B or 4Z381A

2014-01-14 Thread Tim Krause
1. Torque will not change with the speed since the gearing is creating the
power - on a geared motor that is. On a DC motor with variable speed you will
see a drop in torque as the speed is reduced.

2. Correct to some degree. To slow and you will end up burning the wood and
dulling the tool. Too fast and you put the burden on the motor in the tool and
can end up with poor results. Your goal is to find the right speed. Of course
that speed is also affected by the types of wood in use. Feed speed will rise
or fall depending on the density of the wood, power of the tool and sharpness
of the cutting tool.
