Dan, do look through all that's available on http://www.legacywoodworking.com if you haven't done so. You'll find instructional material there that can actually be more useful than what's in the printed manual as it includes color photographs. I find the manual is most useful for assembling the machine, but this doesn't sound like what you're looking for. Sometimes it helps to see it in action to figure out what is what.
