Rotary table

2017-11-08 Thread Richard Ellis
First of all Thanks for the videos Russ. I like the idea of a faceplate
mounted on the lathe that you showed. How fast should I run a 12 " disc ??.
I am doing up an old Myford ML 2 lathe to use as a small wood work /sander.
It has an old flat pulley set up --lots of gears missing.
My Rotary Tables I have one I made for my woodchuck and a proper Legacy
one on my Revo.
I drilled 1/8" holes dead center in them, I then use a long 1/8" rod about
six inches long pointed that I push up from underneath for centering
objects that have a small detent underneath.
If the rod sticks up high enough to see the point go into the detent all I
then need to do is lower object down onto the table.
Hope you can understand my ramblings
Richard

My new video is now out at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m5pKXXZCKXY

It’s about DIY faceplates for the LOM. I show how easy to make and what to
watch out for. There is special attention to custom faceplates and tips for
the LOM.

RE: Rotary table

2017-11-08 Thread Russ Veinot
Richard,

First, thanks for the words of encouragement. I think I understand your
“ramblings” (I speak rambling fluently :>). Besides that’s the only way I know
how to do it myself. I am working on a new way to center the rotary table, but
I don’t want to give my idea away yet, . . . but I think you’ll love. I have
a couple of ideas for the rotary table too.

As to my disk sander, if you’re going too fast, you’ll know it when sanding. I
use it for that more than a lathe. I am going to redo that disk and add a 1”
belt sander to it also. in fact, if I can ramble for a moment, I believe that
not only is the LOM one of the most underrated machines in the workshop, I
believe the wood lathe is too. I plan on make attachments for mine to be a
disk sander, a belt sander, a thickness sander, and a drum sander. Future
projects all. Since I use the LOM for most turning (not my lathe) I need to
find other uses for the thing to be worthy of taking up space in my shop. I
love multi-taskers :>)

Russ
