Just emailed Cindy yesterday, and asked if we can still get metal drive gears.
Yes we can still get them. Takes about a month of turn around to get them made.
$140.00 per set. So anyone interested they are available.
My suggestion is get them ordered if you want metal gears.

That is exactly what it’s for it’s a handle because the 900 has no height
adjusting acme screws like the larger models do

Tom,

It is part of the bed, one of the SME’s can better answer what it is for. I
would guess it it so you can grab it when you have to adjust the height. I am
not sure about the Z-axis, that part came put together MTF. Thanks

what is that for ? and does that red crossmember connect to the frame or the

what's the bevel for?

Looks like a great machine Eric, especially with the adjustable z axis so you
can see what

the bit is doing.

Does the z axis have delrin that travels up and down in the alum rails..kinda
like the Y ?

that is the best way to determine that your mill is most likely assembled
correct and working properly . always check this before starting any job this
will greatly increase the life of all things made of Delrin on your mill.

After a mount of time your mills slides will get tight even with cleaning dust

clearing you can see me doing it on my revo mill here

it’s the same on regular mills the top hat rails are just on the side instead
of on top they are cleaned the same way.

So when you think your rails are clean and after it moves easy a small distance
gets tight this is the problem.

Usually I start with 2x2 stock and turn down but these started out smaller.
bigger one is about 1-3/4 dia and the smaller one is about 1-1/4. The smaller
one had a void that I had to mill down thru so it got smaller. My daughter
came by tonight to grab something else and when she saw the smaller one she
immediately latched onto it for herself. I can always make more. I agree when
I made them on the lathe it was always a struggle to be consistent across the
entire length, but that is easy with the LOM. I do love working with Walnut
and when you put mineral oil on it boy does it pop.

Tried out my recently acquired std hub and 4 prong bracket on my 1200 tonight.
They worked great and I love the concept. I made a couple of simple french
rolling pins out of walnut and butternut. I used to make these when I had my
sawmill and live edge woodworking business and they sold pretty well.

Re: Eric 900

2023-02-08 Thread Tom B.C. Canada
At the tail end of the bed is a red crossmember with a long oval cut out on
the beveled part.
what is that for ? and does that red crossmember connect to the frame or
the bed?
what's the bevel for?
Looks like a great machine Eric, especially with the adjustable z axis so
you can see what
the bit is doing.
Does the z axis have delrin that travels up and down in the alum
rails..kinda like the Y ?
Thanks for posting all the pics.

Re: French rolling pins

2023-02-08 Thread Mike Newman
Usually I start with 2x2 stock and turn down but these started out
smaller. bigger one is about 1-3/4 dia and the smaller one is about
1-1/4. The smaller one had a void that I had to mill down thru so it got
smaller. My daughter came by tonight to grab something else and when she
saw the smaller one she immediately latched onto it for herself. I can
always make more. I agree when I made them on the lathe it was always a
struggle to be consistent across the entire length, but that is easy with
the LOM. I do love working with Walnut and when you put mineral oil on it
boy does it pop.

RE: Eric 900

2023-02-08 Thread bulkeley
Your rails might also be very slightly out of line too with the saddle at the
tight end loosen and retighten the screws holding the rails and also the screws
holding the saddle top hat this may help it doesn’t take much to stiffen it up
slightly some one may tell you to file the Delrin top hat slightly that is a
last resort after trying everything else first

Because elsewhere with then will be too loose

RE: Metal Drive Gears

2023-02-08 Thread bulkeley
$140 for the set, that’s $20 a gear I think that is quite reasonable a laser
cutter elsewhere would be a great deal more I would think, so it looks like the
gears are still available from legacy the drive gears anyway

So any other gears like the .25 or the 2X gears its highly possible they might
be available too.

For that price I wouldn’t bother making any kind of plastic gears unless just
for fun because no matter what we make the metal gears will always be the best.
