Re: Legacy Maverick 3x5 CNC $13,000

2023-04-10 Thread John Hennen
No that is not a 4x8. List price on that is 19k right now, at the time of
purchase it was 17k

The machine in the picture has a 3hp liquid cooled spindle on it. Only the
3x5 uses that spindle. The 4x8 uses a 6hp air cooled spindle. The 50k
version is also an auto tool change system. You would see 7 tool holders
across the back of the machine as well if it was the 50k model.

For the past 23 years I have worked there so I have a pretty intimate
knowledge of these systems.

Extras are just that, extras.
Mobility kit and the vac table are both add-ons.

I recommended a Dzc motor with a 5/8 shaft. But you may have forgotten
that. The speed control you will need to fit the motor.

Re: Revo Manual - FOUND

2013-08-29 Thread John Hennen
The small line in the rail is made in the extruding process. The side with
the small line has a slightly larger opening than the side of the rail
without the small line. What we have found is that the inside track
bushings run smoother on the side with the small line. -now for the
disclaimer- If your machine is already running fine DO NOT change it, if
it ain't broke don't fix it. If you are on the side with the small line
and there is a little wiggle flip the rail and use the other (smaller
opening) side.

Re: Who all was there?

2013-02-05 Thread John Hennen
I hope that everyone enjoyed the session tonight.

With the shows not being anywhere on the west coast we have had ALOT of
people ask what we are demonstrating. Because of that Tracy and Andy have
decided to do a set of videos based on the classes that we are teaching
there. a kind of a "virtual show". There are 11 classes that are taught
every week. Tracy is working on the first day of classes or 4 videos.

In a Q & A session there is not really any "live action" and so there was
none. Even in the CNC classes there is no live machining being done as
that would blow off all of our ears. That is saved for the videos
where Tracy can manipulate the noise volume.

On the screen during the session tonight was just a small sampling of the
project pictures that have been sent into us. Tim has asked for the
pictures and so I will see about getting them to him. We have almost a
terabyte of pictures i will see about getting him some of them.

AS for future sessions we will need to setup some times. In these classes
I would like to have one of *you* as a *guest instructor* and have you show
off a new project and take the time to talk about the techniques that you
used to make the project. we can then discuss what would have made it
easier and what accessories you used to make the project. This way we can
all learn from each other and Legacy also will know what new accessories
would helpful and which are being used.

Would a session like that be worth while? I know that a once a month Q & A
would be a short and semi-boring session in my opinion. so something more
fun and engaging would be more exciting and maybe even get more people to
attend.

John

Andy and I were there. Tracy was busy filming. He is working on
4 separate projects right now. it will be fun to see what video he
finishes first.

Re: Question for Legacy Chat 2-5-2013

2013-02-02 Thread John Hennen
It is a fair question. Andy will be there to answer these questions,
however I would recommend rewording it to sound a little less rash. You all
should thank Stan for putting himself out there to set this up and think
about questions with this in mind. As I said, it is a fair question but I
would have Tim reword that before he sends it to Andy and Tracy.

Just thoughts from the one that pushed to make this Q & A session from
inside.

Re: Cutting Reeds on a Tapered Spindle

2013-01-24 Thread John Hennen
Reeds on a tapered spindle...
Way to much overthinking going on so I thought I would pipe up and tell you
how Tracy taught me to reed tapered parts.
After the spindle is tapered:
1- re-level the bed (once the bed is level the center plane is now level
with the bed. the top is now tapered but that does not matter as we are
reeding from the side)
2- free float the y axis (unlock the split nut)
3- set your stops
4- set the point of the cutter even with the point of the tailstock
5-reed the part

you will notice that the spacing changes as the diameter changes. see the
link http://legacywoodworking.com/galleryItem.cfm?project=482 you can even
use this on contoured parts as well to flute and reed.

side reeding or fluting is all based on centerline and with the bed flat
the centerline is parallel to the side reeding/fluting bit

Re: Spirograph

2012-09-17 Thread John Hennen
Your questions:
Ok John,

I'm intrigued how was this done and is the tool only in Aspire?

You will have to look and ask people that use other programs. I use v-carve
pro, aspire, artcam express, artcam insignia, artcam pro, and bobcad. I can
only speak for these programs. Most have the tools needed to make
spirographs, however you will need a decent amount of knowledge to
understand how to use the tools to make them. There is not a "spirograph"
tool. You will have to draw them. Again i am happy to share the drawings
with anyone that has aspire as that is the program that i drew that part
in.

Remind us what the retail value of Aspire is again?

Use the link and you can look at all the options that are out there with
the vectric product line. Or if you prefer artcam then go to
www.delcam.comand look at their programs.

Can turbocad do it?

Well you would have to ask someone with an intimate knowledge of it,
however it is still only a cad program so you still need something that can
produce code for the machine.

wrote: > > Ok, truth be told, it's not that easy on a cnc.

Well now that depends on each persons ability and knowledge. So that is an
unfair statement. What may not be easy for one person may be easy for
another. For instance i cannot fly a plane and to me that would be
impossible, however to an experienced pilot it is not hard. So it all
depends on what you focus your learning. For me and many others that have
learned the program it is easy.

Www.vectric.com you can go there and see all the options. Tecnically v

Re: For Sale: 900/Standard CNC

2012-07-15 Thread John Hennen
Legacy stopped selling the Std CNC package not because the motors were too
small, it was because the 900/1200 could not take the tolerances that we
wanted to see in the CNC. Most of these systems have been retrofitted into
a Arty frame as this one could.

Used Std CNC's for Sale

Legacy's Trade-up special has brought in several Std CNC's back to us
that we are going to be selling at a 2999.00 There are three in
particular that were out with the customer for less than two weeks
when they decided to trade-up to the Performance CNC with the rack and
pinion. As a courtesy I am giving you all the first chance on these
before Legacy sends out an e-mail offering this to everyone. IF you
are seriously thinking about this you can call me at 1-800-279-4570

Re: Have you seen this?

2009-01-14 Thread John Hennen

In the rapid traverse it will travel at 2000 to 2200 IPM but i like to
set my rapid traverse speeds at something significantly slower... it
is easier on my heart while i am standing next to it. I have found
that 1000IPM is great when going from one end of the machine to the
next. for short distances, the ramping speeds of 1000IPM tends to
never reach quite that fast, but it does do well to keep the machine
pretty efficient.

The demo model of the Phantom 9611 is being replaced here at the shop

going to sell the demo model at a hugely reduced price. the list
price on the machine is 36,000.00, for this machine it will be sold
for 25,000.00. I thought that I would offer this to anyone interested
here before I present it on the open market.

The specs:
11 x 96 column
18 x 96 flat stock

If anyone has any questions about the machine you can call me at

Re: cnc files

2008-12-12 Thread John Hennen

Aaren,
Yes you can use the z-axis that you already have. there are some
design changes, the biggest being that there is 7 inches of plunge on
the newer z-axis and only 5 inches on the older version. There are a
couple of parts that will need modification. If that is something
that anyone on the group is interested in doing we can work something
out.

Bruce,
The biggest software differences are the performance has the router on
automatic power up and shut down, while the standard is turned on and
off by the user. The performance also has limit switched built into
the machines hardware, whereas the standard uses the soft limit
switches that are built into the software. And of course the cutting
and rapid traverse speeds are different.

As for the leg with the rosette; in the demo video that program and
the flat program are both written together. I am sure that Tracy
could pull the leg code out and get it available.

The Code for the candle stick is ready, but i have not had a chance to
check it personally. It is 25.00 but if anyone wants to do the
troubleshooting of the code for me, e-mail my
j...@legacywoodworking.com e-mail and we can discuss it.

Mike,

I have been reading the Legacy blog for quite some time and I am very
impressed with the ingenuity and thoughtfulness of all of the members.
In going along with this aforementioned thoughtfulness I thought it
would be prudent to remind you that all of the Legacy online classes
are copyrighted and it would be a sad day indeed if you left them up
on your site and were sued for copyright infringement. Please notice
that on the bottom of every page on their website it says copyright
1999 Phantom Engineering Inc.

As for now I would recommend getting these taken down as soon as
possible. Just a thought as Lawyers tend to be quite expensive. I
just wanted to make sure everyone understands copyrights as I am
minoring in business law...

sorry for the bad news...
