Re: [LegacyUG] digest

2006-09-07 Thread Cathy

Hi Kristine,
The mail server Legacy is currently using doesn't have a Digest format.

Do you filter your Legacy mail into its own mailbox? That is the
easiest way to handle a high volume mailing list as you can sort the
mail various ways. As far as I know you can't sort a digest.

Most mailing systems have a way of automatically transferring
particular emails to another box.

However the second problem persists: the sources and event were not

Re: [LegacyUG] User group archives?

2006-09-07 Thread Cathy

Hi Jeff,
The current archives are limited as Legacy changed mail server in
June and older messages are no longer available.

The search wasn't working at first but appears to be now though
searching archives for what you want to know can be as difficult as
searching Help. You have to enter the right search word.

Do ask whatever questions you need to. We're a pretty patient group
and repeat ourselves often :-)

If you haven't found the Tips pages yet, take a look at
http://www.legacyfamilytree.com/tips.asp
(linked from the Legacy Home Tab)
Most of these are also in the Help file but there are more pictures
in the web version.

Also take a look at Legacy News which often includes helpful articles.

Enjoy

[LegacyUG] OT - Electronic Planner Sofware

2006-09-07 Thread Dick Davis
I hope that the administrator will let this get through - then all other
exchanges should be done individually.

I am looking for what I call an electronic planner that consists of a
various day views, addresses/contacts, notes areas. I have looked at
AnyTime Organizer - not that impressed as it comes across as being to
"DOS like" meaning it is like the early days for those of us that
remember those; Franklin Covey Plans Plus for Windows XP - nice
interface, does a lot but is up there in price. Those are just the two
that I have spent some time with.

Does anyone use this type of software? If so, can you drop a note of
what you use, your experiences - likes / dislikes, experiences with
support, etc, would be nice it the addresses/contacts would interface
with the email program such as Thunderbird.

Thanks -

[LegacyUG] RE: Cannot update; bad gedcom import

2006-09-07 Thread malkajef
Just wanted to add that I solved problem #1 (inability to connect on the
internet). Apparently I had a very old build. I downloaded the latest
build (110) and installed it and this one connected fine.

However the second problem persists: the sources and event were not imported
from the gedcom even though they were included in the exported gedcom. That
is much more serious because I have over 1200 individuals in this gedcom.

Any advice or help?

[LegacyUG] User group archives?

2006-09-07 Thread malkajef
I am new to Legacy and rather than re-ask questions that have already been
answered, I might wish to search the archives. Are the user group messages
archived somewhere?

[LegacyUG] Cannot update; bad gedcom import

2006-09-07 Thread malkajef
I am very new to Legacy and am just starting to explore it. I have however
already hit 2 problems that concern me. Perhaps I might get some guidance
here.

1. From the program's home page, I tried to update and it just would not
connect even though I have excellent broadband access. The internal browser
in Legacy does not seem able to connect at all. I entered the Legacy URL
and clicked on go, but it could not connect at all. Both IE and Firefox
connect fine on my system. Is there a setting I should set up for the
Legacy browser to work?

2. I imported a complete gedcom which included sources, etc. The main data
seems to have imported correctly but none of the sources were imported -
that I can see, and none of the events or notes. Is this known bug?

Thanks.

Re: [LegacyUG] Before 1850 ?

2006-09-07 Thread ronald ferguson

Debbie,
Have you looked under Options>Customise>Dates? You can set the ways in which
you wish to display dates here. 1818-1824 is not a vaild date but between
1818 - 1824 is. If you have "Check Formatting" set then Legacy will not
allow the format which you have used. Similarly check the right hand column
on that screen to see that you are using the correct construction for
before.

Debbie,

I tried a test inputting a son for one of my ancestors. I entered
"1818-1824" in the birth year and "Before 1850" in the death year. It
worked. The "parents" were both born in 1808. I am using Legacy Deluxe
version 6.0.0.110. When it would not allow you to do the same with yours,
perhaps one of the parents was born too close to 1818.

RE: [LegacyUG] Relationship Calculator - Runtime Error 380

2006-09-07 Thread Peter Haughton

It's possible you have an error in an option that is (improperly)
crosslinked to the picture option. I've seen this sort of "funny"
before.
Choose the smallest number of generations including The Pilgrim
Stone that fails in that report so that you can run reports quickly.
Now try turning on and off totally unrelated options to pictures

Re: [LegacyUG] Question on Event- Follow up to AKA question

2006-09-07 Thread sue klein

THANKS
I had looked under Report Options over and over, and there it was on
the first page!!
I took out the Insert Underlines, and VIOLA, all is fixed, both problems?

I had the Event Narrative selected, so not really sure why when I
changed the Insert Underlines and went to a Report/Book/ both
problems were fixed, but just so happy that all is well.
Thank you again

I'm lost if these don't work.

[LegacyUG] Question on Event- Follow up to AKA question

2006-09-07 Thread sue klein

Hi,
Still have a problem, and probably missing something obvious!

First created an Event under the Master List- Name-Alternate.
When I created this Event, I added a sentence under "if Description only filled;
"Ancestors or Decendants for [Name] can also be found with the
following alternate spellings:[Desc]"- without quotes

Moved the alternate spellings of the last name to an EVENT - Description field
(from AKA). At the bottom (still in my Event Name-Alternate), the
sentence reads perfectly. Works a treat.

I then go to Reports/Book/ Descendants/ and the sentence does not
appear. All I get is Name-Alternate + the Desc field with the list of
names. Also after the last name I entered there is __, __.
__. - about 6 of these?

Why isn't my sentence appearing? (I have the very latest
version-Deluxe), and why the added spaces?
Thanks again
Sue
