[LegacyUG] Is this a BUG?
I have noticed that when I make a Descendant Narrative Report and where a person has a birth note and a marriage note, the marriage note is before the birth note. Is this the way it is supposed to do? [LegacyUG] GEDCOM Export - A serious bug???
When I do a GEDCOM Export and (1) enter a change in the Customize option to Exclude Regular Notes From Export and *then* (2) change the Produce File For option from Legacy to GEDCOM 5.5 Only, it turns out that my choice to EXCLUDE REGULAR NOTES is blown away. [LegacyUG] Deleting whole brances of tree
Over the years of collecting genealogy data, I have discovered that I have lines that stretch back into antiquity ... as in before year 1000 AD. Most of this has come from the FamilySearch genealogy data, and really isn't verified. I have come to the conclusion that 99% of the genealogical information before AD 1500 is pure speculation, so I need to purge my database of most of mine. I am finding whole branches of dubious info, and having backed up the total database and created one that is purged to work on, I need to know if there is a way to delete a whole line, as in choosing a patriarch born about 1500 and then deleting all of the related ancestors to both parents. The difference between producing a file for Legacy, Gedcom 5.5, etc. is only in the items included and excluded. So if you don't want Legacy to change these then what exactly *do* you want it to do when you change the Produce File For setting? Changing the Produce File for setting should set the gedcom items to the defaults as needed by that application. Any customizations you wish to make in those items must therefore be made *after* that. If you regularly make a specific type of customized gedcom then you should save your settings to a file -- click on Save List. RE: [LegacyUG] GEDCOM Export - A serious bug???
Each option for producing the gedcom has its own selection of items to export. Set the Produce File For option first then change the customize option. When you change the main option, you're basically resetting what you've done before. In some cases, things that you've selected to exclude are already excluded by the main option. [LegacyUG] Bug in merge log
Hi, I would like to report a bug to Legacy but first I would like to verify that it is not just MY problem. (Maybe my 'unique ID' numbers are not unique or maybe my 'merge.usr' file is corrupt or ??.) I am requesting a volunteer or 2 to: Export to Legacy file temp.fdb one person, perhaps yourself. Import from Legacy file temp.fdb Do an 'Intellishare merge' which will merge your duplicate to your original self. Verify that you do, or do not, get the same merge log message. (See my proposed bug report below) Of course make backup first and do check / repair afterward. Thanks for any help. Richard Van Wasshnova (proposed) Bug in merge log Whenever I complete an IntelliShare merge a popup message appears: Messages displayed about not automerging of Intellishare matched individuals were recorded in a log file. Would you like to view the 'Merge log' file? . I would expect this log to report something like: Rin 26998 was merged to RIN 25222, etc. Instead I get a report that has nothing to do with the merge: There are 760 individuals with a modified date that is before the start of this IntelliShare merge process. There follows a RIN sequential list of names. My wife is listed, I am not, we both have the same modified date 2006-09-17. This 'Merge log' file is only created during IntelliShare merges. I would prefer not to see this confusing merge log. A more helpful popup would say: It is reccommended that you do a 'check / repair' now as any duplicate pictures or source citations referenced to deleted Individuals remain as orphans. (If a check / repair is done at a later date the resulting error log is likely to confuse us.) Re: [LegacyUG] Organizing Master Sources (for Gail and Ron)
Hi Kirsten, I think you haven't yet understood the difference between Source List Name when you are entering a new Master Source and the Title. The Source List Name is for your benefit and can be ordered any way you like to make the Master Source list display in a way that is logical for you. eg: Gail said she starts all her Cemetery sources with Cemetery so they sort together. I do the same sort of thing: eg all my sources from Parish/Church Records begin with Church Record (If I had a better memory, I could use a code as Ron does :-)) like Church Record - Dorset, North Wootton BTs Church Record - Somerset, Horsington, PRs The Source Citation, however, ends up like this: Church of England, Parish Church of North Wootton, Dorset, England: Bishop's Transcripts 1585-1880 (FHL British Film No 1239261 Items 24-27) + particular relevant detail Author, Title (Publication Facts), Source Detail No doubt it should have a few other bits as well - I don't claim to have polished sources ready for academic publication . I am to record enough so that I or someone else with some familiarity of genealogical sources could find it. Unless you have checked in Options Customise - Sources Tab - include Source List Name as part of the Source Citation on pages in reports, you'll never see the Source List Name in a report. Cathy At 02:13 AM 5/11/2006, you wrote: Gail: I've read your other posts regarding source formatting but didn't fully appreciate the dilemma until I began to consider grouping some of my own sources under generic headings. That seems to be where the citation format difficulty crops up, so now I feel your pain. And Ron: I found lots of sourcing discussions in the archives, but none that addressed the grouping vs. unique Master Source question. I do like your source grouping approach, but do you have a way around the awkward result in printed source citations or do you just live with it? RE: [LegacyUG] Deleting whole brances of tree
What I have done for the pre 1000 is I have access to the 'Burkes Peerages' and the 'Boston Evening Transcipts'. I also transcibe all disagreements available in any source. These Sources state how reliable they are themselves. I only use the FamilySearch stuff as a confirming of the above type. I know that some of this is suspect. But don't state that there are NO accurate records before any exact date, just less available. Rich --- [EMAIL PROTECTED] [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Thank you, Carl ... I don't see Charlemagne in any of my trees. I appreciate the information, and have used #9 tag to mark all of the pre AD1500 data. I'll handle each one individually while cleaning my genealogical house. Most of this has come from the FamilySearch genealogy data, and really isn't verified. This is generally correct, but I have been told that the lines to Charlemagne, around 700 AD, are verified. The others do not have the same status. Re: [LegacyUG] Organizing Master Sources (for Gail and Ron)
FYI. I have found that if you do not enter a Title in the master source, but just the Source List Name, that you will get the Source List Name included on reports even if you have NOT checked Options Customise - Sources Tab - include Source List Name as part of the Source Citation. This has actually been helpful to me because on some of my sources I only entered the Source List Name (I have since gone back and added the title so now the Title prints without the Source List Name). On 11/5/06, Cathy [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Hi Kirsten, I think you haven't yet understood the difference between Source List Name when you are entering a new Master Source and the Title.
