That is the only way of doing it. When I hit this situation I enter the
father as Mr Whatever with an unknown wife.

I need some clarification on this.

My wife's grandfather and his siblings all emigrated from Lithuania to the
US, separately I believe. At this point, we have the names of the siblings
but we have absolutely no information about the parents.

Do I need to keep the ghost marriage in order to keep the siblings
together?

  Go to the Marr List
Find a double blank (husband and wife).
  Select them.
  Go to the child.
Unlink him or her from her blank parents.
  This removes the ghost' MRIN.
Sorry I forgot to put this in last night.

parent or edit the unknown one. I could unlink but
then I would have to find that unlinked one and
   delete them.

Is this ghost thing some sort of bug they know about

Re: [LegacyUG] Sigh...

2006-11-13 Thread Cathy

Yes - or add a name.

In this situation I usually have a named father
Given Names: Mr
Surname: BLOGGS

That way a descendant report from Mr Bloggs reads OK and includes all
the siblings.

Re: [LegacyUG] Blanket way to sort all events by date?

2006-11-13 Thread Cathy

Hi Carol,

You can do this but note events without dates will be sorted together.
It's not something I'd want to do.

However, this is the way:
File File Maintenance - Check/Repair
Tick the check box to Sort all events by date.

Re: [LegacyUG] A little off topic but...

2006-11-13 Thread Candi

Hi Alastair,

I personally was very impressed by this, thank you for sharing this
info. I have some very important books that are very old that need to
be scanned. This is the best option I have seen so far. Can you tell
me where I might find one of these to purchase and maybe the price ?
These are books being held by a historical society that they have
granted me permission to copy.

Most Sincerely,
Candi DeGrande
[EMAIL PROTECTED]

 A small point but important.

I'm sure that when you said 'microfilmed' you meant archived; I say
that because thank goodness we have now moved into the days of hi-res
scans rather than microfilm. The Scottish archive centre has just got
a book scanner, and sent me recently a copy of an ancestor's will from
1819 - full color, A3, and a resolution to die for!

This is the sort of kit I am talking about:-

 http://www.rod-neep.co.uk/books/production/scan/scanning.htm

have a look at their homepage

 Warm regards

 Alastair

[LegacyUG] Server update

2006-11-13 Thread Ken McGinnis
I thought our server company was going to send one more email out before they
actually moved our sever to their new data center but I didn't get one and then
it was to late to tell everyone what was going on. Our sever company is really
growing. They moved to a brand new building which is adding enough room that
they can add over 1000 new severs. I am glad they are doing well and I hope the
new data center will keep our bandwidth fast. The move was supposed to go a
lot better than it did. I think almost everything is now working.

Thanks
