Double Click on the character you want to add.

You haven't addressed the OP's actual problem, which is that the only
characters which appear in the grid are the standard alphanumeric ones.

The only suggestion I can offer is to try a different font. Is the
screen font something standard like Arial? If so, then changing it
probably won't help, but if it's something unusual it's possible that
extended characters just aren't available in that font.

Cathy,

I am amazed. Like you I was certain that one had a choice; in fact I still

No, I cannot get a Location Index alone either. If I select Location Index

However, I can get a TOC and a Name Index in the same document.

In an RTF file, you can have EITHER a location index OR a name index.
You can't have both. This is due to the limitations of RTF
format (and I think Word also only allows one index). The
index is generated from the codes imbedded as Hidden Text.
You can see the codes if you turn on View Hidden Text in Word.

In a Legacy PDF report you can have both indexes.

Hi Susan, I think I may have inadvertently led others astray with
keeping the same subject line on some of my previous notes. The
original thread started out discussing Family Atlas and its features.
Then I stepped in and asked for a comparison between Family Atlas and
Map My Family Tree. I should have changed the subject line back then.

Then Geoff from Legacy stepped in and mentioned that Legacy was
selling Map My Family Tree (not Family Atlas) as an add-on to Legacy.
After reviewing information for both programs, I decided to purchase
Map My Family Tree. I just received the CD Saturday and am just now

The price tag for Family Atlas seems very good, but I am hopeful that
Map My Family Tree will be worth the extra bucks.

Hope this helps clear up the confusion!

Actually I should have done a better job mentioning what I was looking
for in the Legacy store. I was indeed looking for MMFT, as mentioned
by Geoff, and snipped into my email. I'm guessing you purchased it
elsewhere. (GMAIL makes one complacent since all the emails shaing one
subject header are lumped together - you kind of forget what the
subject heading is!)

Thanks! Looking forward to your review. I, too, liked the list of

Ron,
Are you using Windows XP? Legacy book reports had some variations years ago
when Windows ME and Windows XP became available on retail store computers.
Users of Win98 and Win2000 were unable to see the problems for about 18
months.

Suppose the owner of a Legacy 6 Deluxe file plans an Ancestor Book Report
with the index in THREE columns. Then plans a book with several ancestor
reports (say one for each branch) and finds Publishing Center is limited to
TWO columns, no option. Why?

PDF was advertised as a special new feature of Legacy 3 Deluxe in December
2000 with a charge to upgrade from Legacy 3 released at the end of February
2000. A single PDF book file is the easiest way to get copies made at a
printing service. Word processor files may not be the same if opened on a
computer with different settings.

RTF reports edited in a word processor might be okay for short books but
it is too much work to edit wording spacing for a long report and then
find some families have the children in the wrong order by date of birth.

Yes, I am using XP SP2

I have not said that Legacy is limited to 2 columns only that I use 2 columns
with leaders and without problem. Personally I have no wish to use 3 columns.
The paper/print width will in any event govern the number of columns which one
can use

I agree and in fact many publishers require PDF for that very reason.

Do not agree with you here. I use Open Office which separates the page Styles
from the Print Format. One can set the Styles for all pages ( more than one
Style if required) and then do as one wishes. But I accept that many if not
most publishers are not able read this format as yet.

RE: [LegacyUG] Printing multiple relationships - problem?

2006-12-11 Thread Jack Earnshaw
I presume there is still a bug in the relationship calculator for finding
the multiple relationships.

My first cousin once removed also shows as my 8th cousin once removed -
which is correct, but the names shown for the second relationship are the
same as for the first one (it just repeats the extra identical names up the
tree).

If I ask to calculat the relationship between herself and the earliest
person on that line, it shows the route through her father - leaving out the
other one through her mother. The only way to track this, more distant,
relationship is to calculate the relationship between her mother and me.

Re: [LegacyUG] Re: Map My Family Tree

2006-12-11 Thread Pierre Cloutier

Please forgive my forwardness but I would like to point out that:

Map My Family Tree is the only genealogy mapping program that can
print large maps by automatically tiling them over several pages for
easy, convenient assembly. Large maps enable you to see greater detail,
such as a list of all persons living in a town.
Map My Family Tree will not crash when publishing PDF 24 ×
36 or larger.
The PDF maps are sharp, clear and compact, because they are stored as
vectors, not raster images. Great for taking to Kinko's.
Map My Family Tree gives you precise control over the pixel size of
image files (JPG, BMP, etc). The maps can be annotated with text, lines
and photos, using your favorite image editing program, such as Paint or
Photoshop.
Your custom placemarkers will appear in Google Earth, featuring the
spinning globe.
Print place names and people's names: you don't have to
sacrifice one for the other!
These features are rather obscure and technical, but in the long
run, they insure robust and practical map-printing.

Re: [LegacyUG] Re: Map My Family Tree

2006-12-11 Thread Gail Rich Nestor

Hi Pierre, thanks for pointing out these features of Map My Family
Tree (MMFT) software. I am looking forward to trying out all these
nifty features. In the mean time, could you help with this question?
I posted it to the MMFT message board this morning, but have not seen
a response yet.

I need some guidance on the following scenario:

My Legacy database location reads: Bainbridge - Oak City Cemetery,
Decatur County, Georgia, USA
The official gazeteer entry in MMFT with coordinates reads: Oak City
Cemetery, Decatur County, Georgia, United States
I defined a custom place: Oak City Cem. to go with the official entry
above (that's what will show up by the dot on the map)

I want to leave my Legacy database entry exactly as it is (with the
city name as well as the cemetery name in front of the first comma,
but have the MMTF gazetteer recognize that my Legacy location and the
official gazeteer location (which contains the appropriate
coordinates) are one in the same and to not count my Legacy location
entry as an error.

I feel I must be missing something, but I have been over the help
section of MMFT several times to try to figure this out on my own.

Thanks for helping answer this. I feel sure this will help out other
potential customers who want to use MMFT with Legacy.

Please forgive my forwardness but I would like to point out that:
Map My Family Tree is the only genealogy mapping program that can print
large maps by automatically tiling them over several pages for easy,
convenient assembly. Large maps enable you to see greater detail, such as a
list of all persons living in a town.
Map My Family Tree will not crash when publishing PDF 24 × 36 or larger.
The PDF maps are sharp, clear and compact, because they are stored as
vectors, not raster images. Great for taking to Kinko's.
Map My Family Tree gives you precise control over the pixel size of image
files (JPG, BMP, etc). The maps can be annotated with text, lines and
photos, using your favorite image editing program, such as Paint or
Photoshop.
Your custom placemarkers will appear in Google Earth, featuring the spinning
globe.
Print place names and people's names: you don't have to sacrifice one for
the other! These features are rather obscure and technical, but in the long
run, they insure robust and practical map-printing.

Pierre

Hi Susan, I think I may have inadvertently led others astray with
keeping the same subject line on some of my previous notes. The
original thread started out discussing Family Atlas and its features.
Then I stepped in and asked for a comparison between Family Atlas and
Map My Family Tree. I should have changed the subject line back then.

Then Geoff from Legacy stepped in and mentioned that Legacy was
selling Map My Family Tree (not Family Atlas) as an add-on to Legacy.
After reviewing information for both programs, I decided to purchase
Map My Family Tree. I just received the CD Saturday and am just now
plugging it in to install. I promise a review some time very soon.

The price tag for Family Atlas seems very good, but I am hopeful that
Map My Family Tree will be worth the extra bucks.

Hope this helps clear up the confusion!

I recently received my copy of Family Atlas and I'm disappointed that Canada

Just call the toll free number Sherry listed (1-800-753-3453) and take

When ever I need to use the disk to restore the software, the key is right
there on the disk..
No extra book keeping required...

Subject: [LegacyUG] Map My Family Tree - how do I recover my registration
key?

I did God knows what with my registration key. I never keep my programs in
the humungous packages they come in. The CD went into a CD case.

How do I recover my registration key?

Yours,

[LegacyUG] still problem with relationship calculator

2006-12-11 Thread Donna Alden-Bugden
Just thought I would mention...the bug of not listing 1/2 relatives has
generally been fixed unless you have an ancestor with an unknown
spouse...then all her children are still not listed as being related to
me...even though they are but their father or mother is unknown.

for example if my grandfather George Jones married my grandmother Elizabeth
Smith but Elizabeth Smith had another child by an 'unknown' person before or
after George Jones, then only the children that Elizabeth had with George
Jones will show as related to me...even though the other children my
grandmother had would be my 1/2 relatives. If I stick a fake name in the
unknown spouse section, then it will calculate relationships but not if I
leave the spouse 'unknown'.
