RE: [LegacyUG] Same Couple Married Twice

2007-05-13 Thread glove
I have an example of this and tried several ways to get things to appear
correctly. What I ended up with was a Re-marriage event that appears in the
marriage information as it seemed to me this was just another event in the
couple's marriage. There was no divorce between the two events and it looks
like the second took place just because the groom was then 21 even though
the first was by licence in 1866.
Graham

Can anyone offer a suggestion as to how I can enter 2 marriage dates for the

same couple. They married each other, divorced and then remarried each
other. I'm not sure "alternate marriage date" is what I am looking for.

Thanks,

Judy

Re: [LegacyUG] Working with STEP children

2007-05-13 Thread Cathy

Hi Tracy,
It sounds as if you aren't doing the linking and child statuses
correctly when you attach a child to two sets of parents or is one of
the biological parents unknown?

There are some known bugs in relationship calculation when one parent
is unknown.

Maybe there is another bug here but if so, it would be good to
identify and report it.

Re: [LegacyUG] Run-time error 75

2007-05-13 Thread Jimquist

Barb,
This was my situation and the steps I took to solve the problem:

"Run-time error '75':
The specified Path/file name cannot be accessed or is invalid"

I get this error when clicking Chronology Tab for:
grandfather or grandmother on mother's side
I do NOT get the error when using Chronology Tab for grandfather's second
wife.

It is OK for:
a. maternal grandmother's sister
b. paternal grandfather or grandmother
c. grt grandfather or grt grandmother on mother's side
d. my wife's maternal grandmother
e. grt grandfather and grt grandmother on mother's side
   Attempts to fix:
I ran File Maintenance > Check Repair 3 times - still get error 75
I have exported to a new Legacy file - still get error 75
I have restored a file from six months back - still get error 75
I have deleted Chron.usr file
 THAT FIXED IT
I'm sure glad that fixed it 'cause I was/am out of ideas.
Maybe one of the REALLY smart people on the list will bail you out pretty
soon - best of luck

Hi Ron, Yes this happens on both my laptop and my PC. Legacy seems to
load all-right and run fine until I try to view a chronological page on
this one Daniel Weed. Then I get the "run-time 75 error, cannot open
file/name". I tried opening my last backup and the same thing happens

only with this same person. I had not worked on this line for awhile so
I
don't know how long this has been a problem. Can anyone help? I love

Barb,

Does this happen on both your lap-top and your PC and and it would seem
that
you run your programs from the Adminixtrator Account, is this so? (It it
not
got practice to run anything directly using the Administrator's account
btw,
one should set-up a User Account for oneself).

If you are running from a User Account have you checked the permissions,
in
case they have changed somehow?

Well hello group. After years of use and no problems, I have gotten a
run-time error 75!!
The help files say that this has to do with not being an administrator
and

to go into control panel and give yourself administrator powers. I am the
only one using this computer and I am the administrator. The 'guest' has
been disabled. This error only happens when I try to open the
chronology

page on one particular person. I have done the maintaince and compacted
the files but I can find no error and no reason for this error 75. I
have

checked the archives and did not find any mention of this error in the
LUG.
I am using windows on both my computers (not Vista) Legacy is on the C
drive of both laptop and stand-alone and my database is on a Kingston
thumb-drive. Have used this method for some time with no problems. Can
some one help?

That's what I did, My grandfather and grandmother married twice (because the

4 children born during the first 'marriage' and two after the '2nd'.

Another possibility might be to link the two in marriage two times.

Right click one of them, choose Add Husband or Wife, Existing Person, then
click on the spouse. I don't have anyone who has done this (that I know
of), so I don't really want to try it on my data, but it seems like it
should work.

2007-05-13 Thread Susan Daily

Judy,
I "added a new spouse", linking to an existing (same) person, typed in
the new marriage date, then changed the wording to say "remarried to"
instead of "married to." It helps to add status Divorced to the
original marriage with a date.

And I am glad it does! I can trust Legacy to only merge automatically where
there is no doubt. But it only takes a very short time to inspect the others,
and click the merge button. Legacy at least presents nearly all merges for your
inspection, while other programs only attempt to merge part of the duplicates,
and you have to find the others yourself. Merge is one of the strong points of

[LegacyUG] Ancestor Color Coding

2007-05-13 Thread Michelle Calcote

Thanks to all who recently posted information about the Ancestor Color
Coding feature in Legacy. I didn't know that was possible!

Quick question, though: Is there any way to change which color represents
which part of a person's family line? I have already set up a color-coded
system for my paper files (which doesn't match the colors assigned by
Legacy), and it will be a bit of work to go through and change all of that.

I couldn't see an easy way to make the change, but Legacy is so flexible in
so many other ways, that it seems as though it should be possible.

Thanks!

I'm just reading your e-mail so maybe you have already seen a suggestion that
works.

It seems to me that you could export GEDCOMS of the files, one by one, and
compare them with a word processor, maintaining an updated copy as you go.

Just run the compare function for each GEDCOM against the updated copy, add
the discovered corrections to the updated file, save it, and go on to the next.

I wouldn't recommend this for a big file or ones with major differences, but
you say that the changes sem to be minor, just made to random copies of what is
essentially the same file.

What strategies would some of employ to merge these multiple FTM files into a

merging them by hand?

I have tried the automerge feature of Legacy without much luck. It seems to
leave 100's of individuals that must be merged manually.

RE: [LegacyUG] new version

2007-05-13 Thread C.G. Ouimet
You are right! It is fixed - I didn't have a space in the Wording field.

Legacy used to trim that space but it now leaves it alone.

RE: [LegacyUG] Problem with Step-Children Check'n'Repair

2007-05-13 Thread Linda Altman
I've never had a problem with stepchildren or parents showing correctly.
Maybe it has to do with how they were added into the database.

Tracy,
Is this a known bug? Rather worrying!
I have many stepchildren but never had any problem with Check'n'Repair.

You need to set up a Search as follows:

Select the Search Menu, then Find ... Select the Detailed Search tab.
Under Look for whom select Individual, under Where to look select Death
Date, under How to look select After and under What to look for select
1858.

Now tick the box for Second Condition and make sure the radio button for
And is selected. Make selections in each of the boxes as you did above,
but choosing Individual, Death Date, Before and 1946.

Now tick the box for Third Condition and again select And. Make
selections as above, choosing Individual, Death Place, Contains and
England.

Finally, select the radio button for Clear List before this search and
then click the Create List button.

[LegacyUG] Help please - Searching my database for Deaths after 1858

2007-05-13 Thread smuggler
Hello

I am endeavouring to locate all deaths in my database from 1858 to 1945 (in
England if possible ) as I wish pursue any wills that may be available. Is
someone able to advise me how I may do this?

I have all available wills pre1858 from the Documents Online site. Need to
check the English Probate Index for the latter deaths.

With thanks
