Hi Richard,

To clarify - I think you mean you've created your own timelines that
can be added to relevant chronologies?

Sounds like a good solution.

Cathy

At 09:16 AM 16/11/2007, you wrote:

Gallatin. In 1820 Census, his widow was found in

In 1821, she has left Tax lists of Gallatin and joined
Owen County. It was very confusing until I found that
the portion of New Liberty they had lived in was
renamed in the 1850s? as Wheatley. Before that, in
1830, the family moved in 3 groups over 4 years to

family, to this day, is still calling the homestead as
in New Liberty. Imagine my confusion and frustration
when we went to visit it, 1500 miles, and were

I have created matching Chronology entries stating
this, so they can be added into any report on this

probate stuff, but if person doesn't need this, I can
easily not print paragraphs of info. (No deleting,

problems unrelated with my printer at the moment.
I had planned on PDF to insert to this, but will fix

Hope this helps. I have created a grouping of each

Re: [LegacyUG] Backup of Multimedia Files

2007-11-15 Thread RICHARD SCHULTHIES
IMHO, you only need to 're-save' when you have changed
the 'bunch' of multimedia files. Opening photo#6 and
on closing you save, (not close), means the identical
file photo#6 with the time stamp Tuesday instead of
Friday will be saved instead. But changing size or
location of any, needs to be saved again (for the
first time).

Re: [LegacyUG] New Family Search

2007-11-15 Thread Junk Man
I don't have any official information.

I do know that technology staff from all the major makers of software for
genealogy were invited very early in the process to see where the new Family
Search was going.

I do know that the church is going to provide/has provided a developers kit
that will enable interaction with the new Family Search.

The design philosophy of the Church is to provide a very fast, stable
platform for storing and sharing genealogical data and that the feature rich
user access will be left to third party developers. The church will provide
a basic user interface for searching, retrieving, entering, and managing the
data collected in the new Family Search.

The Church will also provide a fault tolerant, high performance repository
for the new Family Search (a server farm in SLC that is mirrored in
Virginia) with awe inspiring record insertion, replication and index updates
(I have seen that part).

Second guessing third party developers is always a risky thing but I would
imagine that a future version of personal family history software will act
as a replica of your family information on a local disk. When you attach to
the internet, it will resync with the data in the Church repository. It will
allow you to link with sites like Flickr and other websites for photos,
event and biographical information.

The new Family Search will be as "open source" as privacy and liability will
allow.

I did realise that my emails were set on request receipt, I have turned it

Ron, and list.

I am beginning to feel a little desperate at the moment, I am not a
member of the Church of Latter Day Saints however, my Aunt is, and has
been for the past 70 years. It is her 90 birthday on Sunday 18 November,
I only have a few days left, and what I was wanting to do for her
birthday was to give her a printout of my research on attractive paper
and boxed, that's all done. I also, wanted to take along a laptop and
show her, our family website.

Well! I have spent a week on this and am not progressing very well, I
have created the website with Legacy, I have Webspace at Rootsweb, I
uploaded to rootsweb, but found that I had uploaded my hole Legacy
program, which is not a good look. (Smile). I have now removed that look.

I am totally confused with the whole concept, too much, in the head for
recall at the moment.

I think, if you could cope, what I need is gentle, simple, directions. I
just want to; have an empty head with simple instructions to follow, to
set up the Webpage.

Rhonda,

It is up to you to put it on the net. You first need to find a Web Host,
There are many free ones available, indeed your current internet provider
may offer one - check their website (or ask). Otherwise search the net
(Free Websites). You also need a name for the site and finally you need
to upload your web pages onto the site and for this you may need an FTP
program again free ones are available.

There are too many ways of doing all of this to go into detail here but
if you sign up to WUL http://uk.groups.yahoo.com/group/WUL and ask the
question there it is possible to help you sort out the options. This site
is specifically for Website creators using of Legacy and there are
Australian users who can help you find a host there.

Rhonda,

It is up to you to put it on the net. You first need to find a Web Host,
There are many free ones available, indeed your current internet provider
may offer one - check their website (or ask). Otherwise search the net
(Free Websites). You also need a name for the site and finally you need to
upload your web pages onto the site and for this you may need an FTP
program again free ones are available.

There are too many ways of doing all of this to go into detail here but if
you sign up to WUL http://uk.groups.yahoo.com/group/WUL and ask the
question there it is possible to help you sort out the options. This site
is specifically for Website creators using of Legacy and there are
Australian users who can help you find a host there.

I am new to the Legacy program, which I downloaded from the internet, I
have no manuals so, my problem is: I have created a web page which looks
good however, I can't work out how to find this web page on the internet.

My guess is that it is not on the internet yet so, my question is: How do
I make this happen.

Thanking you.

Rhonda.

Re: [LegacyUG] Web page help please!

2007-11-15 Thread Rhonda Newell

Ron, and list.

I am beginning to feel a little desperate at the moment, I am not a member
of the Church of Latter Day Saints however, my Aunt is, and has been for the
past 70 years. It is her 90 birthday on Sunday 18 November, I only have a
few days left, and what I was wanting to do for her birthday was to give her
a printout of my research on attractive paper and boxed, that's all done. I
also, wanted to take along a laptop and show her, our family website.

Well! I have spent a week on this and am not progressing very well, I have
created the website with Legacy, I have Webspace at Rootsweb, I uploaded to
rootsweb, but found that I had uploaded my hole Legacy program, which is not
a good look. (Smile). I have now removed that look.

I am totally confused with the whole concept, too much, in the head for
recall at the moment.

I think, if you could cope, what I need is gentle, simple, directions. I
just want to; have an empty head with simple instructions to follow, to set
up the Webpage.

Patience is a virtue: (smile)

Kind regards.
