RE: [LegacyUG] Bug in source endnotes in reports
Latest version, 7.0.0.76 I tend to use Individual Reports on a selection of people selected by Tagging quite often and have never had this problem previously. I tried both settings but it did not seem to make any difference. Re: [LegacyUG] Sentence definition output bug (?) for Ancestor Reports in Update 7.0.0.76
See if you have a different display selected for the Descendant report: - Select desired report - Click on "Report Options" - Select "Format" tab - Click on "Event Narrative Format" - Make sure "Use event sentence formatting" is selected, not "Use List Style formatting" See if that resolves the issue. [LegacyUG] Sentence definition output bug (?) for Ancestor Reports in Update 7.0.0.76
I have modified Sentence Definitions for Events and they look fine on screen but do not display correctly in Descendant Book Reports: they return to the default definitions and include the Event Name field. The examples below contain data in the Desc, Date and Place fields: On-screen appearance: He appeared in the census of 21 Sep 1860 living with his parents in Pleasant, Fairfield, Ohio, USA. Output: Census: with his mother and father, 19 Oct 1850, Pleasant, Fairfield, Ohio, USA Descendant Book Reports appears to be the only report affected: Family Group Sheets, Descendant Narrative, etc. do not exhibit the problem. I didn't have the problem until downloading the latest update. Hope this is easy and quick to fix - I'm on a deadline! Christine *** Holiday discounts on Legacy 7.0, add-ons, books, and more. RE: [LegacyUG] Margaret Married Someone
Kirsten, I know that there is a later post from you than this one, but I'm having a few problems at present and I'm not sure I can get to it easily! However, one of the problems was that when I started Legacy up it decided to add to them by resetting everything to its defaults. During the process rectification I realised why you are getting "someone" and I am not. Going through the marriage, partner set-up I noticed something that I had forgotten. In the phrases to be printed in reports where a spouse/partner is unkown are the phrases "married someone" and "had a relationship with someone". I had deleted them a long time ago and forgotten all about it - I suggest that you do the same - delete them that is, not forget :-) Ron Ferguson _ *New Tutorial* Publish your Web Pages - Blogs http://www.fergys.co.uk View the Grimshaw Family Tree at: http://www.fergys.co.uk/Grimshaw/ For The Fergusons of N.W. [LegacyUG] nicknames upon GEDCOM export
I know that Legacy automatically populates the NICK field of a GEDCOM if the given name has a portion in quotation marks. However, the quoted portion of the name remains in the NAME field as well, resulting in what I think is rather sloppy-looking data. I've tried to bypass this by creating a custom event called 'Nickname', but that exports as an EVEN rather than as the standard of NICK (even though Legacy recognizes an entry named NICK as a Nickname for GEDCOM import, and apparently handles it appropriately.) Anyway, all of that is a round-about way of asking if anyone knows of a way to deal with this, such that Nicknames get exported with the NICK tag, but the quoted nickname doesn't remain in the person's given name? Ideally this is the situation I want: Name (within Legacy): Thomas James "Tommy" Smith (or alternately, Name: Thomas James Smith, with an event named 'Nickname' with the description 'Tommy') Export in GEDCOM file: 0 @I1@ INDI 1 NAME Thomas James /Smith/ 2 GIVN Thomas James 2 SURN Smith 2 NICK Tommy If this isn't able to be done in the current version, I'd like to propose it as a feature for a future revision. It seems like it would be simple enough to implement an event called Nickname, which would give people the option to export the current way by putting the nickname into the primary name field, or to do it the way I desire by using the event instead. RE: [LegacyUG] ReInstall of Legacy 7
Gary, The .usr filescontain the settings which you have made in all the various routines which Legacy offers, including things like colours, various report settings, web settngs etc. The 8 (and I must confess I did not know there were so few) will be the basic ones needed for your files to work. When you go to, say create a report, then Lagacy will create a .usr file with your selected settings in it. So what is the answer to your question? If you are happy with the results produced by the 8 then you can leave them, if not delete it/them and copy your old one(s) across. If you had been having problems with, say the Descendant Report, then don't copy your old one across. I ran off some Individual Reports on various groups of people and it did not make any difference whether I selected "As endnotes after each report" or "As endnotes at the end of all reports", the endnotes for each person were shown after their section. Normally I have them all at the end of the report. Martin Briscoe Fort William M&LFHS | Gwynedd FHS *** Holiday discounts on Legacy 7.0, add-ons, books, and more. [LegacyUG] ReInstall of Legacy 7
This is primairly addressed to Ron Ferguson per a previous correspondence. (See context below). After a total uninstall removing all traces/references to Legacy 7 I reinstalled the app. It did improve performance to some degree. Before the uninstall I did as Ron suggested below and copied all the .USR files. There were 61 in all. After the reinstall there are only 8 and I have plain vanilla options for screen colors, etc. The 8 after the install were also included in the backup's. Specific question to Ron, or anybody else for that matterDo I copy the 61 backups to the new Legacy install folder or exclude the common 8 .usr files? By the way, I forgot to turn off the firewall, but encountered no problems! gc ORIGINAL RON FERGUSON E-REPLY Gary, Don't worry, about your settings, just back up all the .usr files first, then put them back when you have finished. These should be in C:\Legacy. The ones in the Data file should be backed up in your back-up, but you may wish to back them up as a precaution. If you did not install Legacy on the C Drive then you will know where it is. No problem in installing from the Disc, but you will then need to update from Legacy. In any event when downloading switch your firewall off, as some interfers Ron Ferguson Click here to find experienced pros to help with your home improvement project. http://thirdpartyoffers.juno.com/TGL2141/fc/PnY6rw2eRIbe7nj1ppZCMWxsgG2NtMV8KKlfW8NzRUmzSD6ajuNoQ/ *** Holiday discounts on Legacy 7.0, add-ons, books, and more. RE: [LegacyUG] Update 7.0.0.76
Hi Mike, Most recently I even set Legacy to use Explorer rather than my default browser - still no joy. And I get the error message immediately I click on the Legacy Home tab - I don't even get a chance to try to do anything else. Past discussions (to be found in the archives) will say that Legacy uses Internet Explorer whether you do or prefer not, to display web pages within the program. When you open a page in a new window (right click on the page and select) then Firefox will be used because you have set it be your default browser. As for your error: not seen that particular one. Seen plenty of others, but not that one. Others have been largely a result of having inadvertently messed around with file disposal settings within IE or Firefox - instructions for opening or saving files of various types when downloading them. Never could get to the bottom of the problem. -- Regards, Mike Fry Johannesburg. *** Holiday discounts on Legacy 7.0, add-ons, books, and more. Re: [LegacyUG] Endnotes in RTF reports
That's OK. I had done some back and forth with support about the garbled sources a few months back. The endnotes after each generation was about the only thing working at the time for descendant and ancestor book reports. I've sent an email to support to see what happened. Since the latest build actually installed what seems like basically a new version, if this was not going to be an option they should have removed it from the Help section. Hopefully, support can explain. At least the sources do print better, although not perfectly, but we can only strive for perfection, correct. Re: [LegacyUG] Notes VS EventsHoward, if you are going to be using this source many times, you may want to add it to the source clipboard, which will make its access that much easier. To display all of your master sources, every box needs to be un-checked. You might be inadvertently hiding your source from view by having one of them active. This happens to people quite regularly! Second, if that does not work, try a check/repair (File > File Maintenance > Check/repair) to verify there isn't an internal error in your database. Re: [LegacyUG] Newbie help - Master sources
Howard, Two suggestions to try: First, in the master source list, verify that you haven't accidentally checked any of the boxes within the "Show only" section on the right side (beneath the "Help button"). [LegacyUG] Endnotes in RTF reports
I have the latest build and have been trying to print RTF descendant reports with the endnotes after each generation. I've been unable to do so because I keep getting a popup that says this is not available in RTF linked or unlinked sources. I have tried customizing each way in Options/customize/sources to no avail. Does anyone know how I can do this? TIA, Marie *** Holiday discounts on Legacy 7.0, add-ons, books, and more. Response from Jim - RE: [LegacyUG] Help, Please?
Steve, Thanks. The download worked, at this point. JLB, Brenda, Thanks for your responses. Jim, This was a common bug in version 7.0.0.55. It was fixed in the most recent update (7.0.0.76) so if you update to that, it won't happen again (and a vast number of other formatting and display bugs have also been fixed.) If you have the Deluxe version you can update from within the program by going to the Legacy Home tab and click 'Updates' in the far right column. Re: [LegacyUG] Update 7.0.0.76
Jan Roberts wrote: Does anyone else have trouble accessing the Legacy Home Tab in Legacy? This has been an ongoing problem for me for some time - installing updates does not resolve the issue. I get the following error message - Error displaying Legacy Home page. Error 13: Type mismatch Would you like to TRY IT AGAIN? I use Firefox as my browser, but I have Explorer installed, and updated. I can see the toolbars at the top of the page, but everything else is blank. Except for the error message. It locks up the program whether I click Yes / No or Quit. I had to go to the website to access the 7.0.0.76 update, which was rather strange because this morning I got the usual reminder about you haven't updated for more than 30 days etc. etc. so I checked for an update and was told I had the latest version - but at that point I only had 7.0.0.55. I do not have any other problems accessing the internet from within or outside of Legacy. For example, if I go to Legacy Home Page from the toolbar button rather than the tab I can access it, if I search for someone, it works. Would be interested to know if anyone else has a problem - or is it just me? I should say it always used to work for me.
