RE: [LegacyUG] Someone

2009-01-02 Thread Kirsten Bowman
Rich:

This wasn't the case in my situation (an "unknown" husband). There was only
one marriage--to "someone John Jones" or whoever he was. And Keith is
right; it's definitely a bug but it's been a while and I don't remember
whether I reported it or not. It's a fairly unusual data entry sequence for
me, so it's not a big deal.

How many husbands does the program say Julia has? I suspect at least 2, the
newly added person and the 'unknown' person who needs to be unlinked.

[LegacyUG] MRIN changes

2009-01-02 Thread Tracy Skegg
Hi Listers
Can anyone tell me which table has MRINs? I'd like to change the
MRINs through Access, rather than changing 5,000 MRINs one at a time
through Legacy. Unless anyone has an easier way of changing the
MRINs.

I have been playing with Passage Express and found that it doesn't
always differentiate between RINs and MRINs when I import pictures etc
into PE. So some of my marriage information turns up in an
individual's folder who has a similiar RIN to the MRIN. I'd like to
change my MRINs to higher numbers to prevent any matching with my
RINs. I've been watching the threads on changing User IDs and MRINs
and have decided to go with MRINs above 20,000 (my db has 14,000 RINs
and about 5,000 MRINs).

Cheers
Tracy

Re: [LegacyUG] Legacy Charting problems

2009-01-02 Thread JLB
I figured out 1. The photo was corrupted - how, I don't know but I
re-cropped from the original and it was fine. 3. I found a (bad)
picture of said partner and put it in. I couldn't figure out how to get
rid of him (not that there's anything wrong with him, just didn't want a
blank space in the chart where his face should be.) The chart's gone
off for printing now so I don't want to know about anything I could have
done better for at least another year.

I'm trying to make a Descendants chart in Legacy
Charting and have run
into a few problems:

1. Cannot get a picture to show for one person. ??
2. Refresh button doesn't work.
3. How to get rid of a spouse for whom I do not have a
picture?
Changing their name to Unknown doesn't help, obviously.
 Is it possible
to have No Spouse when there's a child involved?

When I was exploring/playing with the Companion my reports were created as 19"

I checked one more thing. In the address window, if you click
"Options" you have the option to combine duplicates. This should help
if you've added the same address twice. I know I've had to use that

Don,
I hope I understand your question correctly. When you open the window
to add the burial address, there is a button to the left that say
"Address List." If you click on this it will give you the names of

As Ron responded, this was discussed on the list but not really resolved.
In my case, I had entered a woman's name and marriage date but no husband's

Book Reports just like your "Julia married someone Nelson Taylor." It
appears that once the "someone" is triggered, entering a name later just

I don't know whether you've perhaps done the same thing, but I had to delete

I have two separate entries for the same cemetery - but associated with different individuals.  I want to combine them into one - just like I can in the "View" - "Master Lists"  - "Locations" window.

 Any suggestions.

It seems to me that there should be consistency between these two types of entries.  Especially - there should be a drop down list avaiability to select from previous entries.

If you go to page setup from the menu round button, goto page setup. The
dialog comes up. You should have a choice next to your the printer you are
going to use. That has a properties button next to it, press it, then if you
have a advanced button, you can set it to any size. I just set one to 72"
just to test it. You have many choices.

Subject: [LegacyUG] Legacy Charting printing size option

I would like to print a continuous "drop-down" chart 19" wide and up to
"what-ever" length? It seems that this program limits you to 8.5"x11"
sheets? Any suggestions??
Carol

[LegacyUG] Someone

2009-01-02 Thread GeoSci
Ancestor Book Report - Why is the word "someone" being inserted into
ever marriage - it makes no sense!?! "Julia married someone Nelson
Taylor". Looked for wording option but could not find anything there.
 Any ideas? (Using latest update)

Thanks,
Keith

[LegacyUG] Legacy Charting problems

2009-01-02 Thread JLB
I'm trying to make a Descendants chart in Legacy Charting and have run
into a few problems:

1. Cannot get a picture to show for one person. ??
2. Refresh button doesn't work.
3. How to get rid of a spouse for whom I do not have a picture?
Changing their name to Unknown doesn't help, obviously. Is it possible
to have No Spouse when there's a child involved?

Subject: [LegacyUG] Users Group in Brisbane??

Hi Colin,
A Legacy Users Group in Brisbane would be wonderful. I've been using
Legacy for a few years, but what I know is 'dangerous'. A lot of these posts
leave my mouth gaping, as to what can be done. I don't understand the value
of the Master Source, clipboard, I could go on and on.
Where do you live, I'm at Nudgee.?
Anyone else on the list from Brissie??
Cheers,
Jill

Hi Jill,

I am a relatively newcomer to Legacy, I converted from FTM a few months ago
and would benefit greatly from a User Group in Brisbane.
I, like you, would like to learn more about the complexities of this
program, I know I am not yet using it to it's full capacity as I am just a
learner.
I did buy the CDs of the tuition and they do help but there is nothing like
hands on help!

Hi Colin,
I should have explained myself better, apologies. I did mean that
there was plenty of space on the flash drive. I had mentioned that in an
earlier post.
Problem now solved, see next post.

Cheers,
Jill

Hi Jill, no worries and no need to apologise.

I should have realised that it was possible you might have put the files in
the root directory of your flash drive, I just didn't think as I always put
my files into directories and naturally assume ( I know I should not do
that) that everyone else does the same thing.{;-)

I am glad it is now all sorted for you.

Colin in Brisbane too!

Ps. Why don't we have a Legacy user group in Brisbane, there seems to be one
in every other State?

Re: [LegacyUG] Error opening database------could not lock file----flash drive-----problem solved

2009-01-02 Thread jmglover
Hi Evert,
Thanks for that suggestion,

snip>>You probably have all the files in the root K:, put some of the files
on the flash drives in folders and try again.<<

That's done the trick, I'm now able to save Legacy to my flash, and also
open other .fdb files that I couldn't before.

Thank you also, Dennis, for that suggestion. The flash has plenty of space,
around 700MB, but putting files into folders has corrected the problem.

Thanks to Guido, and Sheri for their input. Also Gary, Elizabeth and Mike.
I hope I haven't left anyone out.

Many thanks to everyone,
Happy New Year,

Re: [LegacyUG] sourcing a War Department Certificate

2009-01-02 Thread Mike Fry

If this certificate was passed down in the family, then it's cited like a
privately held artifact. (EE 3.24-3.25, Basic Format, Family Artifacts, pp.

who/what/when/where that describes the document, cite the current or
last-known whereabouts of the certificate, and then cite the provenance of
the artifact (the chain of title that would justify trust in its validity).

Now that's the sort of information that I thought the check-box labelled
'Show Evidence Explained page and section numbers' would provide! But,
it only seems to work when you serach using a section number from EE :-)
