Uneducated me!!! What is a "pen" drive? Like a USB? . . . and I wouldn't
mind if someone could email me the exact steps on how and where to change the
drive letters . . . I know I've seen it before, just need some
"re-education." It sounds like such a great idea.

Thank you for your comments. I don't think I've been using a program called

use Norton Internet Security and hopefully I'm not with viruses. I would
love to "noodle out" what happened. I'm suspicious that something may be
wrong
with my computer, but my computer ghru hasn't been able to come over. I
have emailed with Jenny Benson of LUG about finding a "computer help group" on

I have tried to remove a person's name from my family tree information.
After I go through all the steps, the name in the legacy program has been
removed from all instances. Then I "create a web page". Then, when I use
the "browser" button in the task bar, the browser display shows no
instance

of the name I deleted. However, when I open my website, in which I have a
link to Legacy, the Legacy program does not show the name EXCEPT when I
go

to the person's father's name, the name of the deleted person appears as a
son. The person whose name appears has asked me to remove it from Legacy
and

my website. I don't know why, but there it is.
I reinstalled Legacy Deluxe 5.0 (which I use), but the problem persists.

Does anyone know what might be the answer to this problem? I'd appreciate

Hi Elizabeth, the only reason that I use the + sign for is to enter Death
Notes.
The address feature in there doesn't make a lot of sense to me so I don't use
it.
The reply that was sent to you by Dennis will locate the cemeteries for you
providing you have entered the name of the cemetery in the Name box.
When you get to the Events window you will see two boxes, one is the find box ,
the one next to it has a down arrow, click on it and select Event Addresses.

Re: [LegacyUG] Incorrect Relationships

2009-02-18 Thread CE WOOD
Becky,

Here is the advice from Brian in Legacy Support:
If you want to submit a suggestion that the family view use direct
relationships where possible we are happy to consider suggestions for new
features.

In Legacy 6.0 and 7.0 you can suggest a new feature by clicking on the link
on the Legacy Home Tab Support Section

Other users can make a suggestion here:
http://www.legacyfamilytree.com/Suggest.asp

Use the drop down list in the first box to select a category, Legacy 7 or
Legacy Charting.

The more of us that make this suggestion, the more likely it will happen,

I think that the closest direct relationship needs to be the default. If
someone wants simply the closest relationship, that needs to be an option.
Unfortunately, as it is now and until they fix this genealogical flaw, we are
stuck. Too bad they didn't know tha the direct relationship is crucial whereas
the closest is interesting.

Do make the suggestion.

I agree completely that the direct relationship should be the one displaying.
I reported this a while ago as a bug, I'm sorry to hear that it's part of the
programming. If I didn't always set direct line as preferred before I set
relationships when I add people to my family tree, I might never have noticed
this. I'm sure there are many more of these than the ones I happened upon.

They need to have DIRECT as the default setting with an option for CLOSEST.

And then the problem is compounded when Legacy finds the closest
relationship to one person in the marriage. Speaking of Direct
Ancestors which should always be grandparents, if it find the closest
relationship to one person in the relationship is an aunt/uncle or
cousin, then the spouse is Wife/husband of which indicates no blood

would never know by looking at the relationship printed that the

There must be a way to correct this, as I have used many other

Elizabeth,

You may think this sounds stupid - but I assure you it ain't! Use Search to
select the ones you want and tag them. Then go to Reports>All Reports>Name Tags
which can be formatted to produce a report style output and select the ones
which you have tagged.

You need to search the Address Fields top obtain your cemetries btw - if the
Name field contains the name of the cemetry then search using this field.

[LegacyUG] How to record same-sex couples?

2009-02-18 Thread David E. Damouth
I'm a new user of Legacy 7, so perhaps I'm missing something obvious. I can't
figure out how to properly enter same-sex couples. I could add a new entry to
the "status" list in the Marriage Information Window, but is there some
relatively standard way of doing this?

Re: [LegacyUG] never married

2009-02-18 Thread Ana
Have you tried clearing/cleaning out the various memory tools such as
Tools > Source Clipboard > clear all and open the Individual
Information Screen > right click on the word before a category such as
Buried > choose Clear All.

They are wonderful tools, used all over Legacy, but they can get
corrupted. They will start to rebuild anew the next time you enter
information.

You might try to enter a person - just a name - save & then enter one
fact at a time & save until the "offending" trigger appears.

RE: [LegacyUG] never married

2009-02-18 Thread ronald ferguson

You may like to try File>File Maintenance>Master Lists Clean-up. I would tick
everything that is not going to affect things which you wish to retain. Having
said that I haven't the faintest idea whether it will work!

I am assuming that you have tried File>File Maintenance>Check/Report - but I've
not much hope for that either!

Okay, this is getting on my nerves. Every time I enter birth and death
info on an infant and then I hit the save button, Legacy automatically
marks the
box "This individual never married and had no children." This also
happens

with people I am adding as I am going through a cemetery. I don't might
not have spouse info at that time but that doesn't mean they weren't
married.

Is there some sort of option I have to turn off to get the program to stop
doing this?

Re: [LegacyUG] BASIC Cleanup

2009-02-18 Thread Colin Liddell
So what you do is change the drive letter on your Pen drive to say "R" which
should be a letter that would not normally be used when plugging in your Pen
drive. That way when you plug it into different computers the drive letter
will stay the same. QED.{;-)

If your two computers have a different number of drives, that could be the
cause of your problems with Legacy on a flash drive. It will have different
drive letters on different computers.

Hmmm, that was clear as mud...

Let me try again, the drive letter assigned to your flash drive may not be
the same on both computers. If that's so, then one computer may not know
where to look for your files.

Apart from ensuring that your system meets the minimum requirements to
run the program, I don't think there is anything that is specific to
Legacy. General computer use and maintenance is off-topic for this
list. Have you considered joining a newsgroup or mailing list
specifically aimed at inexperienced computer users? Or a good book or
an online training course is nothing is available to you in your area?

Good idea! Only I'd find it hard to pick on just one feature: I just
love Legacy being so much superior to FTM, which a family member uses!

Re: [LegacyUG] How to show tags on family view

2009-02-18 Thread Mary Fowler Leek

Lucy,

On the menu bar:

Go to Options>Customize>General Tab and look down in the lower left hand
corner. Tick the box "Enable Tagging" and you should see your three tag
boxes on the family view. This is where you can also change the tag numbers
that are being shown by clicking on "Tags to Show".

From: lucee-...@prodigy.net

DUH, I must have brain fade or something. Have looked all over and I was
sure that I could have at least three tag boxes show on the family view,
just above the husband and wife boxes. Am I wrong ?
