RE: [LegacyUG] Source citation for a telephone call
Hi Rich, I had thought of using audio interview as a source -- however it seems to be expecting a physical audio recording. For example, it asks about type of medium and the option is privately held. Then it asks about the current owner and the format (for example, audio tape) and the year the recording is owned, etc. So it would take a bit of twisting to make that fit. For now I think I'm going to go with Church Record and put in the notes that the information came from a phone conversation and that I don't have the physical record. Re: [LegacyUG] Legacy and Access
Bob, I don't think anyone posting to this thread was upset. I thought Dennis was expecting someone might complain that the subject is not strictly about Legacy since you can't see the tables directly in Legacy. The IDIME heading in TblSX was always very confusing to me (What does it have todo with a 10 cent coin?). Dennis' calling it ID of Individual, marriage, event was very enlightening enough to make it worth reading the whole thread. -- Richard Van Wasshnova On Tue, Apr 21, 2009 at 6:21 PM, SgtBob s...@cox.net wrote: Didn't mean to upset folks in asking about the Access data. [LegacyUG] Export to GED, Import Ged back to Legacy. Drawbacks?
I know there is much to lose in exporting to GED and then re-importing to a new Legacy file: 1. Everyone is marked as imported. 2. Modified date is reset. I know there are other, more serious losses but I can't recall just what they are. Can anyone add to the list please? I am considering a rollback from vers 7.0.0.90 to vers 7.0.0.40 which is on CD. RE: [LegacyUG] Source citation for a telephone call
Brian, From what you said previously you do have a physical record of the telephone. This would be the notes you took while you were on the phone with your interview. Your notes are a transcript of what was said. That is why if you want to you could put as privately held because you hold the notes that you took. Just my two cents. Re: [LegacyUG] order of names
I am not sure I understand what you are saying either, but yes Randolph, this is a common practice in Spanish/Portuguese convention, and some other cultures as well. Children were commonly given two surnames, one from each parent. The middle name (1st surname) comes from the father's name (apellido paterno), and the last name (2nd surname) is the mother's maiden name (apellido materno). For example: Mozes son of Joseph PEREIRA and Abigail MENDOZA will appear as Mozes PEREIRA MENDOZA. Should Mozes PEREIRA MENDOZA marry Sarah LOPES SALZEDO, their son's name would be recorded as Gabriel PEREIRA SALZEDO. Sometimes these two surnames are reversed - first the mother's surname, and then the father's surname. Effectively the surname can change with every generation. It would appear that when families left Spain and Portugal, in accordance with local laws and conventions in the rest of Europe, they kept a single continuing surname giving rise to the vast number of LOPES SALZEDO and NUNES NABARRO records.
