I just discovered that every time I click on Preview a report (at least
with the Pedigree or Family Group Record reports), my system "freezes" or
"hangs." I'm not getting an error message. This is a new behavior with
the 7.0.0.90 update.

Can anyone duplicate this?

Thanks!!!

[LegacyUG] Reason to Print An Individual Report

2009-01-31 Thread Charles W Aubin
I look at at it differently. An individual report is for everyone from the
date of birth until they get married. It includes all childhood info,
residences, schools and church attended, friends, pets, hobbies, clubs,
jobs, etc. If you never get married or die at an early age, this is where
your information is found. When you marry, you are now a family member and
info is added accordingly. Just my thoughts.

[LegacyUG] GEDCOM size in Legacy

2008-05-22 Thread Charles W Aubin

Hi all;

I was sent the following question by a person in Canada. If you can answer
this for me, please email me directly.

with thanks Charlie

I am looking for a genealogy programme that will make a Gedcom from a very
large file.

My file has 74600 names and is 47.1 MB in PAF. A gedcom stops at
6.
I did a filter of just death dates and those born before 1911 and got 51000+
names and the gedcom stops at 4.

My question is - will Legacy make a gedcom with up to 100,000 names?

Re: [LegacyUG] Can I add marriage date to the individual page?

2008-03-29 Thread Charles W Aubin
Dawn;
I believe you are misunderstanding what the Individual Window is meant to be
used for. It is exactly as stated, the information for an individual up until
he/she gets married, at which time they have a family window, as you are
calling it. The individual screen is for children and unmarried adults, thus
there is no marriage information, that is handeled in the family screen. I
hope this helps,

Thanks for the response Wendy. That is exactly what I want to do BUT it's the
family view window is not what I want to customize. I want to cutomize the
INDIVIDUAL window, which includes given and surnam, as well as other relevant
details, but it does NOT include marriage information. This is where I'd like
to see the ability to customize, just like the family view.

Hi Dawn, in Family View you could customise the fields to give you a

Hello all. I appreciate the fact that Legacy has a box just for
marriages, but I'd really like to be able to see a person's marriage date at a
glance from the individual window. Is there a way to do that while keeping the
other basics in there (birth, baptism, death, burial)?

Also, does anyone know WHEN the new version will come out??? I've heard
so many great things, I can't wait! Are they waiting until the fully test the
new charting program?

  Thanks,

Re: [LegacyUG] Sourcing from PAF to Legacy

2008-03-25 Thread Charles W Aubin

Ron,

I must not have explained myself correctly. What I was trying to say, from
an earlier email from Geoff Rasmussen, is you can still use the present way
of sourcing or you will be able to use the templates. But there will not be
an auto update from the old sources to the new templates. They will have to
be reentered one at a time. Unfortunately I had a complete crash of my
desktop and I am presently using a laptop so I do not have access to all my
saved emails.

Ron and Bill,
There was an earlier email by Geoff that stated just the opposite i.e.,
you

will be entering new sources via the templates, you will retain your
existing sources in the old format and over time you will have the choice
to

update them to the new format. You may have to search the archive for this
info.

Bill,

That is not my understanding. Yes there will be new sourcing methods
available should you wish to use them (and from what I've heard I suspect
I

might not), but that will not involve the necessity of having to amend
existing Sources.

Re: [LegacyUG] Relationship to Father/Relationship to Mother

2006-10-17 Thread Charles W Aubin

Hi All:
When you import files from Family Tree Maker they all come in as
Natural, a real pain to change, as Natural or biological is implied in
normal relationships, ie. not step parent etc. Hope this helps

reguards Charlie

Susan Daily wrote:

I wonder if perhaps my previous software used that term, and so when I
imported the GEDCOM into Legacy, it brought the term with it? Every
single person I had in the original GEDCOM has a natural relationship

idea that it wasn't a default term!

Thanks for double checking all your lists - that is helpful
information and food for thought.

I don't. Like Pat, I see "Biological." And that is not because I have
changed the list in any way.

Pat is quite correct that historically the word Natural was used to
indicate born out of wedlock. It would be confusing and inaccurate if
Legacy were to use "Natural" to mean "Biological."
