Re: [LegacyUG] Two files at once

2008-03-24 Thread Lawanda Darby
Elsie,
1. From Family View, choose View from the tool bar
menu.
2. From the View menu, choose Split Screen View. When
this opens, you will have two views of the same Legacy
file.
3. A box will open asking "Do you want to open a
different Family file in the new window?" Choose Yes,
and press open.
You now have two different files open side by side.
Now you can compare the two, drag and drop from one
file to the other, or you can even change or correct
information in one file and then drag and drop that
person into the other file, thus keeping both files
updated at once.

Hope this answers your question?

Richard,

That is where the Stevemorse.org/census web site would
come in handy.

Re: [LegacyUG] Census Formats? Totally confused!!

2008-03-03 Thread Lawanda Darby
Keith,
You might try Stevemorse.org/census, and click on
Microfilms. This brings up a form where you can enter
the state, county and Enumeration Dist, (I think I
remember you mentioned in yesterday's posting that you
had the state and county), then the form will give you
the series and roll numbers. It won't give you the
page number, but 2 answers is better than none.
I should be working on my client's income tax return,
but finding an answer to your confusion was too much
of a challenge.

Re: [LegacyUG] A Census Question

2008-02-27 Thread Lawanda Darby
Keith,

The information offered is essentially the same. The
first one is usually from Heritage Quest Online, and
is self explanatory. Series #, Roll #, Page #.

The Family History Library gives the same information,
but in a different way. This is also the format for
the Family search 1880 census transcription. First it
adds an identification number for the library film.
Then it has the NARA Film Number which includes the
Series # (T9 in your example, which is the 1880
Census Year), then a "-" and then the Roll# (1207 in
your example), then the Page #(523D in your example)

The third example, I am not sure. I have not seen
this configuration before. But T9 is the Series, 1043
is the Roll, and 294C is the page.

Some census records have only one page per record,
some 2, and some 4. So if you get a record that has
more than one page for the record, you will get the B,
C, or D after the page number.

I hope this information helps.

Pat,
The family group sheet supplies what you want, but
also includes the parents of the couple.
