Re: [LegacyUG] Making a backup of my family file

2006-07-20 Thread Pat Wagley

I do the same as Bill with one addition;  I send a GEDCOM to myself
attached to an email and save it in my MSN folder, off -site and can be
accessed anytime any where I suppose I also quality as paranoid !!
My data base is not huge and I have loads of space on MSN.

Pat
I'm
also looking at storing my back-ups on a commercial remote datastore.Call
me paranoid if you like, but I've invested too much time and effort tolose
  it.

Quite simple really; create a GEDCOM, I save mine in my Legacy
folder:

In an email addressed to yourself; click attach file, find your GEDCOM
attach to your email and send.

In "Folders on MSN" I created a folder and named it GEDCOM and backups, I
then save my email including the attachment in that folder.

I like this! recognizing that GECOM probably isn't a perfect reproduction
of the data. Could you give us a step-by-step process for attaching it to an
  e-mail?

Thanks Sherry:

I didn't know to do this, I had only thought of a GED.

I have just tried with the backup emailed to myself, saved on msn, opened,
saved, then restored to family file,  worked like a charm.

I am a novice at computers but as they say; never too old to
learn. some days I'm just not too sure about that statement !!

  I don't understand why you'd use a gedcom instead of doing a
backup of theFamily File?  The backup includes (most) all the
ancillary files that arecreated when you're working with Legacy in the
Family File including yourfocus group and merge in process.  You
should also do a multimedia backup toprotect your multimedia files that
you have linked to in Legacy. Also, make sure you backup the igi file
in the Legacy\Data folder - thatholds your IGI matches, the .ppl file,
which is the potential problems listyou've created and the .rgd file which
holds your work with the ResearchGuidance.  It's on the list of the
things to do for the programmers toinclude these files in the backup so in
the meantime, you'll need toremember to save those! Thanks for

[LegacyUG] Legacy view problem

2007-05-22 Thread Pat Wagley
I have a slight problem with Legacy when I use it on my laptop.

It appears to be too large for my screen. There is about an inch at the bottom
and about the same on the right side of the screen that is not seen.

Can anyone offer any suggestions on what may be my problem and how I can
correct this please

Thanks

Pat
