I have deleted the 'suspicious' files and ran a repair on the database and
we are again 'up and running'.

Thanks for the support.

.ldb is the lock file for the .fdb file. It should only appear when you
have a database open. I suspect if a .ldb file was not deleted for some
reason that any program trying to open the corresponding .fdb would
 fail.

 See http://support.microsoft.com/kb/208778.

If all your Legacy databases are closed and you still have .ldb's laying
around in your Legacy data folder, it is probably safe to delete them.
Support can chime in on this for the definitive answer.

[LegacyUG] Problem opening file

2009-04-29 Thread Rob Vader
I try to open Legacy (v6) and get an error from a file that was opened
earlier that day. The error is in Dutch, but translated it would read
something like:

Error opening Database
Cannot lock the file
Want to try again?

Whatever I choose after this, the file will not open.

When trying to copy some files to 'play around' and try to open I get an
error when trying to copy family.ldb. The other files seem to be OK. The
error I get when trying to copy this file is that the file cannot be copied
as it is corrupt or unreadable.

Can someone advice..yes, the backup is from some time ago, so I can
recover most of it. But I do not know anymore exactly what I did after the
last backup was made.

Can I (e.g.) delete that file and still open 'the core' of my database?

Is there somewhere in the help files an explanation as to the meaning of
these files (I count 6 of them for my last family opened and only 3 from
other family that I have not opened long time).

Thanks for helping,

Rob

Re: [LegacyUG] Problem opening file

2009-04-29 Thread Rob Vader
Ron,

thanks for reactingI know that perhaps some of the files contain
temporary info (e.g. what I entered the last time?). I also see that I now
have more files than for 'older' databases for which I have only a .fdb, .FG
and a .TC file. From the 'problem' database I have (next to these files)
also a .ldb, .PPL and .RGD file.
Would it be an option to only copy the .fdb file into a save place and
(re)start from there, only to loose the changes of the last time? Possibly
Legacy did not close correctly??

2008-01-26 Thread Rob Vader
Ronald,

I have put the information on following URL:

http://www.rvader.nl/Vader/Database/test/vader-jans/

If you go to person 2440 (Huibrecht Leendert Vader, 12th generation):

http://www.rvader.nl/Vader/Database/test/vader-jans/d12.htm#i7

You can see the note on duplicate line with link to person 1597 in the
11th generation. However, this link is not working at all and if you
hover on the link you will see it points to generation 12which has
no person with the number 1597. In 11th generation there is a person
with that number.

 branches.

the developers of Legacy have implemented something else. I am not yet
clear what to do to find all descendants from 1 person down. There is
not such a thing as a special search action defined. And searching on

Re: [LegacyUG] Want all family Group Records for a person and his descendants

2007-12-17 Thread Rob Vader
Yes, the outcome clearly shows that when I choose a person and the
(entire) descendant list you are right. But as an Innocent user I
would expect that when I pick a person and the descendant list that I
get the descendants of this person in the focus group...but clearly
the developers of Legacy have implemented something else. I am not yet
clear what to do to find all descendants from 1 person down. There is
not such a thing as a special search action defined. And searching on
name is also not possible as this would give me too much persons.

Re: [LegacyUG] Problem with font size on generated pedigree output

2007-12-12 Thread Rob Vader
Thanks for all your input. It is a pity that Legacy does not allow
this. The specific directory with my pedigree output contains
thousands of single, small files. I cannot edit them all 'by hand' and
do that again next timeand next time.

So this may be a fact to live with or change over to text output of
the pedigree i.s.o. graphical/boxes.

Thanks for your feedback.

I have reread what I wrote and still cannot see where I suggested that Rob

In any event, what we are saying is basically the same ie. that yes it can be

[LegacyUG] Problems with date

2007-02-14 Thread Rob Vader

Hi,

I am having a problem with entering a specific date period for an
event. The period is 1 B.C. till 11 A.D. I am using the Dutch version
of Legacy6 De Luxe (pre-release). I have tried entering in all
concievable combinations B.C. before, after, etc. with, or without
dots, 4 digit years. Every time I get an indication that the date
period is not recognised. Any suggestions?

the Scrapbook made from them.

I'm planning an individual called Sample Sources ;-)

if I enter 'Bef 0090' in the date field of (e.g.) birth, I assume the

Re: [LegacyUG] Need to enter as date: Before 90 AD

2006-10-19 Thread Rob Vader

At home I now tried several options: V5 with UK and with Dutch UI.
Both entered Bef, Voor (Dutch for Before), , 0090, 90, etc. No
difference. All dates (also in other datefields) in UK and in Dutch UI
come out as 3090.
I also used the free version of V6..entered date translated to Bef 0090!!

Is it possible that there is influence between the two versions?

Other option is of course to re-install V5 or update to V6.

Thanks Ron for helping, but it is not exactly what I am looking for.
Output to HTML on a tag base is only possible for family sheets and a
few other options. What I really want is to limit the list of
descendants. The option to select tagged members is grayed-out when
choosing descendants at generating web pages. What I want is the
descendants from a person limited to the male line. Is that possible?

  Hi,

I am maintaining one Legacy database for all my family and related
persons. When I want to output descendants from a person on the web,
Legacy generates ALL persons that have some relation to the first
person, even if the names of these people (through several female
lines) are no longer the same as the starting person.

What I would like to generate are HTML pages with the male descent
line, so all persons with the same surname (or derivatives from this
name) and their children, but no further than that.

I tried tagging, focus group, search optionno success.

Any suggestions, or is this a request for future versions.

  I am using V5 DeLuxe.
