A 1996/97 report of the Cremation Association of North America found, on
the disposition of cremated remains: 40.7% were delivered to cemetery;
35.8% were taken home; 17.8% were scattered as directed; and 5.7% were
not picked up. We recently read in the newspaper that, in the United
States, many mortuaries have ashes of cremated invidivuals that have
been in storage for years, waiting for family to pick them up.

2008-06-15 Thread Cary
Also in the US, but there may still be multiple events. My parents were
each (separately) cremated in one place, then later each one's ashes were
scattered in the sea, with the scattering including a family gathering and
celebration of the life. Two entries, one for the actual cremation, one for
the 2nd event. I also could have included events for donation of the body
for medical student use to explain why the cremations & scatterings were so
long after the deaths. It's up to each of us how many events to use (Thank
you Legacy).

It needn't be if you don't wish it so. Some people like to use Buried
for the "traditional" burial of the intact body and Cremated where the
body was first cremated and ashes buries or scattered.

Some people like to use Cremated and have an addition Burial Event to
record the interment of the ashes.

As so often with this great program, it's up to you!

You won't. It doesn't work that way!

Basically, you set whether a person was buried or was cremated at the
individual level. So, Bring up the Individuals Information window.
Alongside the burial/cremation details, there's a button with a plus
sign on it. That is the Burial Notes button. Right-click it. On the
pop-up menu, click on the last item: Cremated. Close the Individuals
Information window and get back to your Family View. Sorted!

On the Individual screen, click on the arrow at the end of the burial
field. The bottom choice is Cremated. When you check this option,
the wording changes to show Cremated, rather than Buried.

It automatically changes if you have someone that you have marked as cremated.
On the individual screen click on the plus sign to the right of the burial
field and that gives you an option to check cremated. The Family View should
read correctly for that individual.
