Re: [LegacyUG] Books with more than 2 authors
Jeff, While I believe you are correct, I think only partly so. I'm no academic, but I believe that the classic way to cite publications with more than one author is, when first citing the publication to name all authors, and in second and subsequent citations, to use "et al". Just a minor point, but may as well get it right ;) Regards, Dermot. 2008/6/30 [EMAIL PROTECTED] <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>: > > The classic way in academic publications is to write the authors of such > books as > "first author, et al." > > Should be fine for Legacy too. > > Jeff > > - Original Message - > From: Stan Megraw > To: legacyusergroup@legacyfamilytree.com > Sent: Monday, June 30, 2008 9:48 AM > Subject: [LegacyUG] Books with more than 2 authors > Source Writer in Legacy 7 allows books to be cited with one or two > authors/editors. Re: [LegacyUG] Books with more than 2 authors
Stan Megraw wrote Source Writer in Legacy 7 allows books to be cited with one or two authors/editors. How do you handle books with more than 2 authors? There is a workaround in this case. If you set up a Master Source with 2 authors you will see that the output is in the form "Author1surname, Forename1 and Forename2 Author2surname." (Example: Brown, John and Henry Smith) What you do is enter the second author's name, in the format Firstname Surname, in the Author Given Name(s) field, after the forename of the first author and following a comma: "Forename1, Forename2 Author2surname" and then put the 3rd author's name into the fields for second author. If your third author's name was Joe Bloggs, the output would then read "Brown, John, Joe Bloggs and Henry Smith." Obviously you can put as many more names in the Author Given Name(s) field as necessary if the book has more than 3 authors. I have just tested with a total of 5 authors. This sounds complicated when you read it, but try it and it is really quite simple. -- Jenny M Benson Legacy User Group guidelines: http://www.LegacyFamilyTree.com/Etiquette.asp Archived messages: http://www.mail-archive.com/legacyusergroup@legacyfamilytree.com/ Online technical support: http://www.LegacyFamilyTree.com/Help.asp To unsubscribe: http://www.LegacyFamilyTree.com/LegacyLists.asp
Re: [LegacyUG] Books with more than 2 authors
The classic way in academic publications is to write the authors of such books as "first author, et al." Should be fine for Legacy too. Re: [LegacyUG] Books with more than 2 authors
Stan, I'm using the 2-author book template. After the last name of the second author, I add ", et al" in place of all additional authors' actual names.
