Re: [LegacyUG] Footnotes

2007-07-17 Thread Jan Stitz

Hi Cathy,

Thank you for this information on footnotes. I thought I might be
overlooking a way to do this, but now I know to put some abbreviated source
name in brackets as I write.

Jan

Hi Jan,

You've hit a weakness of the program. Many would like the facility to
source bits of notes.

However, all the Notes in Legacy are only footnoted at the end. You need
to put some abbreviated source information (abbreviated source name for
example) in brackets throughout the Notes to show which source refers to
which bit.

An alternative is to use an Event and get a narrative flow by the way you
order the events.

different source. Is there a way to get a footnote number at the end of
each paragraph rather than all grouped together at the end of the last
paragraph? Thank you.

What about recording this information as an Event/Fact within the
Marriage Information? That way you can add a source to each Fact.

Cheers, Mitch

Mitch,

I am considering what you have suggested. Right now, I use the Event/Fact
for stating the date and location of the wedding and then Notes for the
details of the wedding. Thank you for your reply.

RE: [LegacyUG] Footnotes

2007-07-17 Thread Linda Altman

Jan;
Unfortunately, sourcing is one of Legacy's weak points. Personally, I do not
use their preformatted reports at all. I have several basic reports set up
in MS Word and I use these as *templates* for my report formats.

The problem I have with Legacy's reporting is that the format is never what
I require and editing the preformatted wording takes just as much time if
not longer than to create the wording myself. Also the Register and Modified
Register reports are not exactly to the standards set out by NEHGS (creators
of the Register style) and NGS (who use the NGS style sometimes referred to
as a modified Register style). While to most this is not important, it is to
me and other professionals who require our reports to conform more precisely
to current standards.

I certainly agree about sourcing.

Linda, Are you at all willing to share or sell your source templates?? It
would be a great benefit for a lot of us!
