[LegacyUG] Formatting in Notes

2007-06-25 Thread Pat Jones
Is there a way to format columnar form information entered in in
Notes so that the informtion will hold to those columns? I've
not found any information indicating it can be done in any
reading of help or the archives.

The only way I have found to do this Pat, is to make an Event of the info.
As an Event, the formatted columns will hold, but will not do so when placed
in notes. I have made Events for census from FreeCen as well as other
documentation and the columns hold properly when copied and pasted into the
Event notes section.

Hi Pat,

Legacy supports very limited tabs. These however don't convert if you
are wanting to make web pages.

To enter a tab you need to use CTRL + Tab.

I have found that if I use spaces and a Tab rather than two tabs
where more than one is necessary I can get things to line up in
reports and these hold. They've held for me for years now. However,
what you see on the screen and what you get in the report are not
identical so you need to go back and forth a bit until you get a feel
for it. Also if you change font or margins you are likely to get a
different result.

Also sometimes with tabs in a line, the line overflows.

But as I said, if your aim is html/web style output, this doesn't work.

Some change the font to a non-proportional - fixed width font and
line things up only with spaces. I hate the look of these fonts so
that's not a solution for me.

Cheers,
Cathy
