Oh, I'm not alone, then?!

I hate to have a report which reads something like ...was baptised on
27 February 1828 in Eynsford, Kent, England (Baptist Chapel, Eynsford,
Kent England) so I just put Baptist Chapel in the Name field of the

Happy to help. Those directories may not be so difficult to find. Try:

There are others as well.

All the best,

 Wayne,

As you know the address where the death took place, and perhaps the
date of death(?), and the name of the deceased, you could try to find
a city directory for that place and time, and look up the family name.
If the address were the same you would then have a clue as to the name
of the person (or family) that lived there.

 Wayne,

Legacy only inserts an n/a if after clicking on the + sign you
click on the address and exit the field. You can go back into the
address and click on Unlink or click it before leaving the field.

For the ones you already have and want to delete, I think you will
have to go to View/Master Lists/location and ask to show all with
n/a. You can then go through the list and Unlink them.

Rich,

Broadly speaking it is equivalent to your American Nursing home. We have two
types, one of which is operated by the private sector (and in this I include
voluntary (charitable) and not for profit) and also those in the state
sector which are usually run by the local authorities.

The above relates to the current situation and has varied over our history
from the times of the old workhouses, through nursing homes when nearly all
were state controlled, to the present mixed position.

Wayne,

In my case I don't use the address facility as I put the full location in
the Died in field on the Individual's Information Screen - hence no
problem. You could always just put The Nursing Home in the name field if
you wished.

Wayne,

Legacy only inserts an n/a if after clicking on the + sign you
click on the address and exit the field. You can go back into the
address and click on Unlink or click it before leaving the
field.

For the ones you already have and want to delete, I think you
will have to go to View/Master Lists/location and ask to show all
with n/a. You can then go through the list and Unlink them.

I use the address list to record the details of locations such
churches,
cemeteries, etc. When I do not have a name (such as when a person
dies in a
private home), Legacy inserts a n/a as the name of the place.
Thus, when I
open up the address list I see a long list of n/a which is not
very
helpful. How do others handle this situation? ... I'm looking for
ideas.
Thanks.

Wayne,

As you know the address where the death took place, and perhaps the date
of death(?), and the name of the deceased, you could try to find a city
directory for that place and time, and look up the family name. If the
address were the same you would then have a clue as to the name of the
person (or family) that lived there.

All the items with the n/a in the name box have data in them which I
want linked to the event in question; it is just that I have no
information to put in the name box. For instance, I have several
deaths that occurred in a private home and I have the address of that
home. However, I do not know whose home it is so have nothing to put
in the name box. Thus, the most unhelpful n/a appears and I want to
replace it with something; I just don't know with what or how to
replace it.

I am wondering how others dealt with this situation or if anybody has
any suggestions.

Wayne,
Not sure if I really understand, but lots of times in the address
field I use the privacy [[brackets]] to list stuff that otherwise
won't print (like a town name, when I already put the town in the
location field).

Wayne,

Happy to help. Those directories may not be so difficult to find. Try:

http://www.historicaldirectories.org/

There are others as well.

All the best,
