[LegacyUG] Pictures for marriage

2007-12-19 Thread Rob Vader
How can I get a picture of a marriage included into the generated
reports. The only option I can check is pictures of persons, but no
other pictures of (e.g.) events like a marriage. The picture is in the
database (the pictorgram is active on the input screen) but I see no
posibility to include in either a generated report or internet pages.

Thanks for any help on this.

Re: [LegacyUG] Pictures for marriage

2007-12-19 Thread Susan Daily
Rob,
If you have time to search the archives you'll see this has been asked
numerous times, and you will get to see all sorts of ideas to work
around the problem. (This affects the basic facts of birth, baptism,
death, burial, and marriage.)

Most people create a separate event called "wedding picture" or just
"photo" and attach it to that.

Kind regards,
Susan Daily

Susan,

thanks for our feedback; I will start to look there. Just a small
question then: from your reaction: is it correct to conclude that a
picture entered under marriage does not (automatically) appears in the
reports/Internet pages, but that special tricks are needed?

So, I understand that the rule of thumb is to attach a wedding picture to a
Marriage EVENT, not to the marriage itself. Seems odd, but, okay, then, in
what report(s) will that photo actually print out (assuming the inclusion
has been indicated in the formatting of the report)?

All reports that can have Marriage Events - provided you choose to
print Marriage Events and Event Pictures.
So all book reports, the Family Group Sheet and the Individual Report
IF and ONLY IF you include the Chronology with it.

RE: [LegacyUG] Pictures for marriage

2007-12-20 Thread Barbara Ford
I tried the picture thing to see how it looked in the Ancestor Book Report.
Although I'm not happy with the spacing (it has the notes about my husband
right after our wedding events, so it actually is showing the wedding photo
beside the notes about my husband), I can mess with that in the PDF file.
But what is bugging me is that I can't get rid of the underline on the photo
caption. I found the place in the ancestor report where I can specify font
on the picture captions. It does NOT have a checkmark in UL. However, the
caption is definitely underlined (and not centered under the photo). What am
I doing wrong?

Re: [LegacyUG] Pictures for marriage

2007-12-20 Thread genealogy
In my experience, to get the pictures to appear in the web pages source
listings, you must first run the report of the same type and set the
pictures to appear in the sources for that report. Then, do the web pages
and set the sources to appear in the sources for the same web page type!

I have submitted this glitch to Legacy but everytime I start to create web
pages, if I don't reset the pictures to appear in the sources on the report
of the same type, regardless of the settings for the web pages, the pictures
will not appear in the sources on the web pages.

I mostly use the descendant report - descendant webpages. But I have also
tried it on the ancestor report - ancestor pages and some of the others as
well. I use a lot of source photos on my website. You can see how they
look on my website under the family lines section.

Kellie,

Are you referring to the HTML generated from the Report options? If so, I've
never used these as I always make my web pages from Internet>Create Web Pages

for this option.

Re: [LegacyUG] Pictures for marriage

2007-12-21 Thread genealogy
No, I always do the Internet>Create Web Pages. I have tried it without
running the same report before and the web pages do not include the source
pictures. If I run the report first, then the pictures will be included as
I specify in the Create Web Pages dialog. I found this out by trial and
error when my web pages would only include my source pictures part of the
time. Then, I realized that if I ran the report before I created the first
section of web pages, source pictures would be included.

Kellie,

Are you referring to the HTML generated from the Report options? If so, I've
never used these as I always make my web pages from Internet>Create Web
Pages and I strongly suspect that running a report first will not make any
difference for this option.

In my experience, to get the pictures to appear in the web pages source
listings, you must first run the report of the same type and set the
pictures to appear in the sources for that report. Then, do the web pages
and set the sources to appear in the sources for the same web page type!

I have submitted this glitch to Legacy but everytime I start to create web
pages, if I don't reset the pictures to appear in the sources on the
report
of the same type, regardless of the settings for the web pages, the
pictures

will not appear in the sources on the web pages.

I mostly use the descendant report - descendant webpages. But I have also
tried it on the ancestor report - ancestor pages and some of the others as
well. I use a lot of source photos on my website. You can see how they
look on my website under the family lines section.

Bruce,

As a lumper the facility of adding pictures to the master source is of
little use to me but out of interest I gave it a whirl and they did not
appear on Pedigree or Family Group web pages. The same result was obtained
when the pics were put in the Detail Source.

This probably is not what you want, but if you attach a picture to a
source (either Master or Detail) and click the appropriate box to
display Source Pictures, it will appear on reports (I don't know about
Web pages).

I do this with documents. The picture is not readable, but does show
the overall appearance of the document. I then transcribe the data
into the Source Text. In the Source listing of the report, the small
picture appears on the right with the text to the left of the picture.

Hi Rob,

Not Susan - but that's right.
Picture entered under Marriage doesn't appear in any reports
currently - so enter under a Marriage Event.
Picture entered for Baptism/Burial will print in Family Group Sheet
but no where else.
I don't know about web pages.
