I do it in a similar fashion, Tom. Started using Nvu, copy and paste, as it is
slightly 'cleaner'. It is a simple matter to insert images and add hyperlinks
to other pictures and data.

Yes, of course you can edit, add pictures etc. afterwards. But it's better
to make these changes within Legacy where possible. Or you will have to
re-edit whenever you rebuild the web pages. Cheers, Mary Young

RE: [LegacyUG] Trying to make a digital copy

2007-04-21 Thread Tom Element
Hello Roger

Thanks, Roger, that's a good tip to cut 'n paste. Seems to me an excellent
way to give a copy of my Family History to others when they ask, even though
it's still not near 'complete' Ha ha!! Most people have access to a
browser and can read as much, or about whom, as interests them. And an
updated copy is easy to make.Yes, even though my database is not all
done and 'smick, I can make an html file and just change a few things for
that particular person if I want to.

I've a lot to learn still, Roger.

Tom

Hi Tom,
If you want an html copy of a Descendant Report, you don't have to go
through Word (rtf format). You can go straight to html. Just choose
the HTML file button instead of the Rich Text File button.

However, I think Ron is talking about using the Internet Create Web
Pages options in Legacy.

Is it possible to make a digital copy of a descendant report so that

Spreadsheets. Or at least a copy paste function for the whole

What about producing the report as a PDF document? For those reports
that Legacy can't produce as a PDF file, there's always the

Donna,

It's a doddle with Legacy, no programming knowledge needed. Have a play by
setting yourself as the start person in Family View then going to
InternetCreate Web Pages Select Pedigree on the right hand side and press
the big Create button on the top right.

The files will be stored in C:\Legacy\Web but when the pages are created you
will be asked if you want to view them just answer yes and have a look.

They will not be exactly what you want as you have made no selections but
they will be a website! I will contact you off-list about the ins and outs.

Hi Ron,

Jim,

I understand that and as far as possible I do answer on-list but I do not
regard the list as a suitable place for a tutorial. If people have specific
questions about any aspect of creating Legacy webpages I am always happy to
answer these on list.

I also feel that if it comes down to progamming detail, again this is often
best done off-list if it concerns someone's specific problem rather than a
general issue.

What I am really trying to say is that I treat each individual question
regarding html issues differently but in the way I think most appropriate
for that question.

Ron,

Why do the ins and outs off-list? I think others would like to learn from
your knowledge, including me.
Thanks,

Donna,

It's a doddle with Legacy, no programming knowledge needed. Have a play by
setting yourself as the start person in Family View then going to
InternetCreate Web Pages Select Pedigree on the right hand side and press
the big Create button on the top right.

The files will be stored in C:\Legacy\Web but when the pages are created
you

will be asked if you want to view them just answer yes and have a look.

They will not be exactly what you want as you have made no selections but
they will be a website! I will contact you off-list about the ins and outs.

Have you unlocked the real power of Legacy? Legacy 6.0 Deluxe has 92 features

Re: [LegacyUG] Trying to make a digital copy

2007-04-19 Thread Mary Young

While selecting options for your Report, tick the button at right for
Text File or HTML File. The Preview button greys out, and you
can select Create. Save your new file to your Desktop.
In Google Documents, select Upload File and navigate to your new file..
A 12-page Descendant Chart, saved as HTML, is only 38kb.
Google Documents is fine for shared viewing. I would avoid shared
editing unless you are used to it, it can be very frustrating and
confusing g

Mary Young

2007-04-19 Thread Tom Element
As it has been said it's a doodle (lol) to make a digital copy with Legacy.
My question is: is it possible to edit that copy once it's made? That is,
can I add other pictures, change the wording of text and so on?

Is it possible to make a digital copy of a descendant report so that
it can be pasted into web based site such as Google Docs
Spreadsheets. Or at least a copy paste function for the whole
report. The only thing I seem to find is a printed report.
