Precisely. So why not just go ahead and ask the people who are likely
to know best in the first place? Your reluctance to do so is very

Since Millennia has not yet sold this software from our online

probably begin selling it in the next couple of days.

Re: [LegacyUG] Map My Family Tree - how do I recover my registration key?

2006-12-12 Thread Gail Rich Nestor

Hi Dora, I just purchased Map My Family Tree (MMFT) from Progeny too
(this past Saturday) and there was no registration key I needed.
Also, my CD came in a little padded envelope and was not bulky at all.
Registration was a snap.

Did you see my previous question to Pierre on this list about Legacy
locations vs. MMFT locations? I do hope he answers it because I don't
feel I can go any further with so many place names not recognized.

Good luck with it! There's also a technical support board for MMFT on
the Progeny wen site if you want to try that.

Re: [LegacyUG] Map My Family Tree - how do I recover my registration key?

2006-12-12 Thread Dora Smith
Actually, it's puzzling that we would be discussing Map My Family Tree - and
this is what confused me. Rootsmagic (Not Millenia, which is who I thought
developed it) came out with a better program called Family Atlas alot more
recently. I just opened the one that is currently and recently installed
on my computer, which is Family Atlas, and since I hadn't used it yet it
asked for the registration key. Registration key is in the actual case
that it came in.

Thanks for setting me straight, Ron. You saved me ALOT of time. :)

Sherie was very helpful - given her company doesn't even make the product,
LOL!And was I told she works in sales?

Map my Family Tree is made by Progeny, not Millenia.

So if we're discussing Map My Family Tree in such detail, why aren't we
discussing Family Atlas? It's a better program. It finds actual places.
Not quite as well as Encarta atlas and Google Earth do, and it has some
bugs, like it insisted on calling the place my mother in law's paternal line
emigrant ancestor came from St. Jacques, which is the name of hte church,
instead of the name of hte town. It put me through a LONG line of matching
the old style place names to the new province names, and some of the places
it couldn't find but I found perfectly well in Google Earth, I didn't happen
to know offhand where they are. Most annoying bug is it couldn't find Ile
d'Orleans in Quebec, which is too significant a place to not be able to
find. Biggest problem is that despite it saying different on the
advertising it too won't let you select which events you want to map,
atleast not by any method I can find.It also doesn't put any sort of
logical place markers on the map, like province or state names, the location
of the city of Paris, even though quite a number of people were from there
(lots of dots but no place name), and it wouldn't label La Rochelle, a major
port that sent many emigrants to Quebec, even though quite alot of people
were from there. It labelled a small village nearby, but not La Rochelle.
Mind you, it lets you add text, so the places are labelled on the map I
made, but that was too stupid. The major city of Rouen is still not
labelled because I don't happen to know exactly where it is in the nest of
dots.

But all this is far better than Map My Family Tree, which ever found and
mapped only three ancestral places, for 220 people.

This one was so weird I checked - and he's right. We've been discussing
Map My Family Tree like it's Millenia's, and that's almost certainly why I
purchased it, but it isn't Millenia's. It's Progeny's.

I wonder if that means it should do much of anything.

Re: [LegacyUG] Map My Family Tree - how do I recover my registration key?

2006-12-12 Thread Dora Smith
I'm more confused than ever. Now that I know that Legacy has nothing to do
with Map My Family Tree, why are we supposed to discuss it on Legacy forums?
I'm missing something.

Or is it that Pierre Cloutier is with Progeny, so our Support Forum is
Progeny's?

I apologize if I'm mistaken, but I believe this thread has metamorphosed from
Registration key for Legacy Family Tree into Registration key for Map My
Family Tree.

Just for the record, Map My Family Tree does not require a registration key.
I speculate that Ms. Smith may have originally been inquiring about a
Registration key for Legacy Deluxe?

I'm a little confused. I purchased this software directly from Progeny. The
CD arrived in the mail yesterday. There is no registration key. All I had to
do was install it. Started working with it immediately.

RE: [LegacyUG] Map My Family Tree - how do I recover my registration key?

2006-12-12 Thread Sherry/Support
Dora,

Map My Family Tree is a product that we sell, along with other Progeny
programs. We *don't* sell Family Atlas. Therefore, a discussion of that
program would be greatly off-topic for our list. This isn't a general
genealogy discussion list but one for Legacy and the add-on programs that we
sell.

The etiquette guidelines for this group clearly state:

5. Please keep to the topic of Legacy and its add-on programs. Please don't
send jokes, advertisements, political messages, religious opinion, etc.

Off-topic items also include family history research in general (unless it
is a question of how do I enter in Legacy), surname questions, other
programs (unless you're asking how to create a gedcom to export into Legacy
or asking if someone has another program so they can help create a gedcom),
etc.

I would suggest that you might want to go to the link below and review the
guidelines.

Thanks for using Legacy.

Map my Family Tree is made by Progeny, not Millenia.

So if we're discussing Map My Family Tree in such detail, why aren't
we discussing Family Atlas? It's a better program. It finds actual
places. Not quite as well as Encarta atlas and Google Earth do, and it
has some bugs, like it insisted on calling the place my mother in
law's paternal line emigrant ancestor came from St. Jacques, which
is the name of hte church, instead of the name of hte town. It put
me through a LONG line of matching the old style place names to the
new province names, and some of the places it couldn't find but I
found perfectly well in Google Earth, I didn't happen to know offhand
where they are. Most annoying bug is it couldn't find Ile d'Orleans
in Quebec, which is too significant a place to not be able to find.
Biggest problem is that despite it saying different on the advertising
it too won't let you select which events you want to map, atleast not

Perhaps you could initiate the contact, explain that you've lost this
piece of information, and then if they need to know more they can tell
you what they need? You won't know until you take that step. :-)

This list can't tell you what your registration key is and Sherry
certainly can't post it to the list.

Just call the toll free number Sherry listed (1-800-753-3453) and take
it from there.

I generally do the same, but I take a fine point permanent marker and put
the Key on the disk so I don't lose it..
When ever I need to use the disk to restore the software, the key is right
there on the disk..
No extra book keeping required...
