Re: [LegacyUG] A question about AFN numbers
In the IGI and its various portions there is a lot of duplication of effort (planned). The AFN is the LDS solution to clean it up. They assigned each number to one or more than one version of the same person. It was/is suppose to be a unique number assigned to a person with exactly one number. It is better but still has duplication. The task is just TOO big. Even then biggest computer is overwhelmed. Some of it also ties in to other (church) needs. Originally we were to be able to search on the AFN but if it is available anywhere, it might be Salt Lak City only. Rich --- Michele Lewis <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > Do ya'll use the AFN number? RE: [LegacyUG] A question about AFN numbers
Hi Michele, You're right, there are a lot of mistakes in the Ancestral File. And yes again, some persons have two AFN's assigned. I know some of mine do. I'm not sure how meaningful the AFN is any more, but just in case somebody is watching I have picked them up where found and put them in the little box on Legacy's Individual Information view. AFN stands for Ancestral File Number. Perhaps someone else could explain the origins and purpose of the Ancestral File. -- Alice > [Original Message] > From: Michele Lewis <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > To: Legacy Mailing List > Date: 1/22/2007 2:18:53 PM > Subject: [LegacyUG] A question about AFN numbers > > Do ya'll use the AFN number?
