I download this in Firefox with no problems. In fact, I don't even download
the program, I just select run from the download option page and it installs
automatically. (use the .exe not the .zip)

Remember, always back up your database before running LToos and then verify
the changes before you accept it as final. I always keep the last 30 days of
backup on my computer just in case.

When you go to Options-Customize-Data Entry to set the age you want them to
be presumed dead, you must then hit the Apply button. This will go through your

Yes, but there is also a Tool Advanced Set Living, that does a bit
more. See the Help for Advanced Set Living.

2009/10/9 Jim Smith jor...@windstream.net:
When I go to Options-Customize-Data Entry-Presumed Dead and set Ask if
Living to 90 and Set as dead if over 120 and click on APPLY I get a window
that is labeled Mark as Not Living if over 120 Years Old that says:

This process sets Living to NO for the following:

 1. Any one with an entry in the Death Date or Place or the Burial Date or
 Place.
 2. Anyone with a valid date in either the Birth or Christening date field
that is over 120 years ago.
 3. Anyone with a death cause.

I conclude that if at least one of the entries is not made, Legacy won't set
 to dead.

One way to solve the problem is to set an estimated birth date. Example: if
the parent had a child that was born in 1850 or for that matter died in 1850
you could set the parent's birth date as Before 1850. That would give
Legacy a basis for computing Living? YES or NO.

2009-10-09 Thread Jim Terry/Support
Yes, thank you Evert!

Legacy's Advanced Set Living feature can be reached by clicking Tools on the
menu bar and selecting Advanced Set Living.

This option does an intelligent search through your entire family file
looking for people that are older than the cutoff age, which is usually 120
years old. When someone of this age is found, it is assumed that all of
their ancestors are older than that and that they are all dead. Legacy then
sets their Living flag to NO as far back as the line goes from there,
regardless of whether or not they have birth or christening dates.

Thank you for choosing Legacy,

Re: [LegacyUG] Here is a good example: Advanced Set Living

2009-10-09 Thread Ron Ferguson
The reason for the problem which Michele has found is the individuals who are
not set have no dates included and no Events and are the end of line children.

Therein lies the problem, because my understanding is that Legacy works upwards
to establish the probable living status. To do the same for the end of line
children it would have to work downwards for every tree and somehow estimate a
death date from parents, or maybe grandparents. This cannot be done in Legacy,
using Access is a possibility, but I doubt if it would be easy.

I would add that this is not a problem I have come across before and may be
quite rare, at least in number/database. In Michele's case most of those of
those involved had (their children's) names found eg. in wills, with no other
record, so the best guess at a date is likely to be wildly inaccurate, could be
around +/-20yrs, maybe more.

Jim,

I don't understand what you are saying here. If somebody has a date in the
death, no matter what their age at death then the living flag will already be
set to No. Advanced set living only sets this flag.

When you go to Options-Customize-Data Entry to set the age you want them to
be presumed dead, you must then hit the Apply button. This will go through your
database and mark everyone over the selected age as dead unless they have a
date in the death field. So, if you decide to mark everyone over 100 as dead,
and you have an ancester who lived to 102, Legacy will leave that one record
alone, but mark everyone else dead at age 100.

It is important that you hit the Apply button to change your database.

Michele,

The method which I have previously described *does* work for everybody in
the database, why it is not working for you I can't imagine.

If you would like to send me your back-up file off list I will happily have
a look for you. It is almost 3-00am here so it will be about 5 hours before
I will look at it. Don't forget to send off-list.
