RE: [LegacyUG] Linage - Linked Databases

2007-08-24 Thread Debbie Byers
Well, I just tried to download the update - and I did have an update screen
last week that told me I had the most recent version. During update I received
an error message saying that there was no communication with the server and the
download was aborted. Now I cannot launch Legacy and am getting a runtime
error, the program isn't working at all.

Can you please advise.

Debbie,

It sounds like the link between your PC and the server was dropped during
the download. Your best bet is to use system restore to a time before your
tried the download. You can then try to install the updates again should you
wish - the current version is 6.0.0.155 and you can check yours using

RE: [LegacyUG] Linage - Linked Databases

2007-08-24 Thread Sherry/Support
Debbie,

I'm sorry if I upset you. We do not allow attachments on the list and the
problem could have been easily stated in your email without sending an
attachment. You should see some of the emails I get from users who complain
about attachments being sent!

The big problem is that most people don't pay any attention to file size
when they send attachments. We have a lot of users who are on dial-up or
pay by the minute to download emails and therefore attachments are a great
inconvenience to them and can hang up their connection for literally *hours*
or cause them to go over their download allotment if they're on a limited
account. We need to respect this fact.

Plus attachments can carry viruses which we certainly don't want to spread!

I just wanted to point out our Troubleshooting website which can help solve
many of the common problems users see in Legacy - this saves time for the
user because there's no wait for a response from us or the list.

Thanks for using Legacy.

2007-08-24 Thread RICHARD SCHULTHIES
I am sorry for your experience, but 10 years ago I
recieved a virus hidden in a photo of a posibble
family member. Changed every character in the whole
hard drive to 'x' and then destroyed the stuff not
broke yet. I too am very concerned with receiving
unrequested attachments and support the ban on sending
them. The proper etiquette in any web based group, not
just LUG, is to send a note to the list, stating you
want to send an attachment to any person who can help
you, then they will send the place to route it to.
Geoff does this once or more times weekly, IMHO. We as
a group are protecting you from similar disasters to
you, and others. We might get a little to aggressive,
but my investment is important to me.
