This has been brought to Millennia's attention several times across
several version but doesn't appear to be sexy enough to get the
programmer's attention.

I sent a suggestion to Millennia to allow marriage events to print on
the Individual Report a month or so ago. You have my strong vote for
this. I would much prefer to enter the information one time and have
it print on their Individual Reports as well as the Family Report.
Otherwise, there's really no point in entering an event under the
Marriage since it also has to be entered in both the husband and
wife's records as well.

If anyone else sees the value of this, please let Millennia know.

It was thought this issue would become a V7 update since many Legacy
users choose to put joint activities such as joint home ownership,
joint addresses, joint property ownership, joint travel, etc, under
marriage events. If these events do not appear on an Individal
Report, unexplained gaps of information exist.

Of course the work around being used was to double or triple the same
entry, once as a husband event, again as a wife event, and then again
at times as an event on the marriage screen. This seems terribly
redundant given the sophistication of today's computer capability.

Pehaps this issue has been remedied with the latest update and I've
overlooked the means to make it work. In that case I welcome guidance

Check your report again. You also might want to reset settings to

In the meantime, I seem to remember a similar bug occuring, not with
these exact particulars, but something with the reports. It would be
in the archives, but I can't think of what to suggest to search for!

Let us know if the first paragraph helped with anything, or nothing at all.

RE: [LegacyUG] Marriage Events

Jan
You may have noted from the Archives messages related to this subject
comments regarding Marriage Events/Facts not appearing on Individual
Reports. This, I believe, is a serious enough shortcoming of Legacy to
require correcting in the next revision.

For those of us who prefer entering Events/Facts of married couples on the
Marriage Information screen, events such as joint addresses, ownership of
joint property, joint pet ownership, joint travel information, etc., these
Events/Facts will not appear on Individual Reports. This can present
confusing gaps of missing data when using these Individual Reports.

A suggestion has been submitted to provide report options to include
Marriage Information Events/Facts on Individual Reports.

Until this is done, you must either make duplicate entries on the Individual
Information screens, one for each individual of the marriage, thus doubling
your entry time and leading to several page FGR reports; or make double
entries, one on the Marriage Information screen and one on the Individual
Information screens. Far from ideal in either instance.

The only one I've noticed, and I only include the details for couples under

admit, however, that I have not looked at this closely to see if there is a
way of including them as it is not a report I use.

I think the way I handle events is probably what most of us do: An
event/fact which is relevant only to one half of a couple would be
entered as an Event on their Individual Information screen. This might
be something like where he/she went to school, his/her confirmation,
his/her employment or occupation.

An event/fact which is relevant to both of them together would be
entered as a Marriage Event. This might be information about their
honeymoon, the homes they shared, if they emigrated and so on.

When you create a Report, go into Report
Options...Include...Events...and select which radio buttons will give
you the output you want.

A lot of questions like this find their way to the user group.

A simple answer could be: create yourself a sandbox that you can play in
to your hearts content.

All you need is a copy of your favourite database and a backup of it so
that you can restart things from a known state once they, inevitably, go
wrong. The supplied sample database is a good starting point, or you may
prefer to start with something a little more familiar to you.

Use the sandbox to try things out before you make possibly catastrophic
changes to your precious research data. You never know, you might be
able to answer your own questions!

Hi Ken,
You can't. It's an *individual* report.

However, if you add a Chronology Report to the Individual Report -
See the screen for the Individual Report, tick the include Chronology
Pages and click the Chronology Options button to choose options for
it - you can include Marriage Events in the Chronology Pages.

The alternative is to use a Family Group Sheet Report.

How common is it among this group to use Events on the Marriage screen
to record common activities of the marriage? For instance, I've been
considering as a Marriage event our ownership of our pets. This is only
one example that could lead to other joint ownership/participation
events.

I'm curious how common this already is, and what shortcomings or

Except for perhaps honeymoon or other such strictly Marriage related
activities, what other events do people record in this area?
Thanks

RE: [LegacyUG] Marriage events

2007-01-10 Thread Nancy Bender
I have only recently started using the marriage events and I think including
pets is a great idea. I'll have to add that one.
What I have used it for so far is our residences. Since we have moved
several times during our marriage and to 4 different states, I wanted a
record of it. I plan to attach pictures of each home, too. I have been
thinking of also using the marriage events for trips we have taken.

Nancy

How common is it among this group to use Events on the Marriage screen
to record common activities of the marriage? For instance, I've been
considering as a Marriage event our ownership of our pets. This is only
one example that could lead to other joint ownership/participation
events.

I'm curious how common this already is, and what shortcomings or
advantages other might think of the concept.

Except for perhaps honeymoon or other such strictly Marriage related
activities, what other events do people record in this area?
Thanks

RE: [LegacyUG] Marriage events

2007-01-10 Thread Jan Roberts
I always use the Marriage Events for things that happened to the couple or
family. I have changed the Marriage Event lead sentence to read - The
following events involved [couplenames] and / or their children:

The only problem it causes is if you use a child of the family as the
starting person for a subsequent report, because the marriage (and therefore
marriage events) of their parents isn't included in the report. But as long
as you are aware of the problem you can always copy the event and add it if
you do start a report from a child and need the event.

Cheers,
Jan
