I have a Lenovo netbook and Legacy works just fine, and my netbook has less
RAM than the ones you have been looking at. Marianne

This is very interesting to read. I've just been to two different
computer stores looking at netbooks vs. laptops, and in both I was
told that the netbooks have too little RAM memory to support
Legacy. The netbooks I was viewing had 2 GB of memory, but I'm told
the basic architecture and software sets take up about 1 GB of that
memory just to have the machine function. So that adding a large
program like Legacy will take me up to the maximum capacity and run
me right on the edge. Is this not true?

I am currently running Legacy on a very old desktop with only 1GB of
physical memory. I usually have 8-12 windows open running almost that
many separate applications and I've never had a memory problem. Let me
restate that -- my computer has never had a memory problem.

2009-08-13 Thread Gary Elder
I'm running Legacy with Windows XP on my 10 Asus Eee PC (1gb RAM)
without any issue at all. It certainly runs as fast, if not faster,
than my 1.8 ghz 1.5gb RAM desktop computer.

With a browser open and Legacy running, the CPU runs at 20% of its
capacity. So it has plenty of muscle to spare.

Re: [LegacyUG] Netbook vs. Laptop?

2009-08-13 Thread Connie Sheets
MJ,

The netbook I recently purchased runs Windows XP and has more memory, a faster
processor and a larger hard drive than my older HP laptop that I had been using
(with Legacy, and without problems) for about 4 years.

There is absolutely no problem running Legacy on an Asus Eee with 1GB of RAM
(although I did choose recently to upgrade it to 2 GB; I don't notice much
difference). I can't speak for other brands from personal experience, but I
can't think of any reason it would be a problem.

It is my understanding you can't put Vista on 'em, i.e. they don't have enough
RAM to run that monstrosity, but who would want to?

Connie

In addition to my desktop, I'm using an Asus with 2GB of ram running on
Vista. I have Legacy Deluxe installed and a database of over 24,000
individuals. I also have a other programs installed (including but not
limited to: MS Office, email, McAfee, Registry Mechanic). I really like
this little computer. The Asus fits in a large purse or a briefcase along
with a bunch of papers.
