Are any photos printing at all? You do know the
reports normally print just one photo, right? The scrapbook prints
 all of them.

Jan,

You do not say which program you are using to view the report. There isn't
really what what might call a standard RTF so the implementation varies from
word processor to word processor.

I don't think that the request was for Legacy to install a font viewer,
per se. Rather that Legacy should use the standard Windows font
requester (as used in Word and several other programs) instead of some
other file requester. The advantage of the standard font viewer is that
the font names appear in the font (I.e. Times New Roman appears in Times
New Roman etc.) so you can tell what the font will look like before
 picking it.

As an aside, I wish Legacy would use standard Windows requesters all the
time. The requester used to select a picture in Picture Gallery is a
 pain to use.

illustrated in the current online issue of Legacy News. The author
did not identify the font used in the sentiment quoted at the bottom
of the chart, so after I had keyed in the sentiment text I clicked on
Text Settings and used the dropdown list of fonts to begin
 searching for a suitable font.

I have 1373 fonts installed on my system. The font dropdown list does
not display the fonts in their final form, but rather shows them all
in the same style, so it was not easy to choose those that were good
candidates for this text. To make matters even more difficult, once I
selected a font to try, and found it to be unsatisfactory for the job,
when I clicked on the dropdown list again I found that I had to scroll
back down to where the unsatisfactory font was listed alphabetically
in order to continue my search.

My proposal is that fonts be displayed in the dropdown as they will
appear on the chart, style-wise, and that Legacy Charting be coded to
remember the last font selected, to avoid having to scroll back to
that location in the dropdown list to resume a search.

I am aware that some fonts would not display well in the dropdown in
their native style due to various sizes of their characters in
comparison to other fonts, but better to have some idea of what a font
looks like than to have to guess based on the font name, which often
provides little clue about how the font actually will appear. One
solution to the native character size differences would be to provide
a larger field for the fonts in the dropdown list. An example of the
sort of dropdown display I favor may be found in Microsoft Word.

 John,

I really don't understand why Legacy should provide a font viewer for fonts
which were isntalled by Windows, yourself or other software which you
installed. I would suggest that you get the Free and Easy Font Viewer form
http://www.styopkin.com/, which does as it say on the tin. It also has the
 comparative sizes of the fonts.

[LegacyUG] Keeping track of attached documents

2010-05-13 Thread gcr...@juno.com
I have scanned, several hundred events (obits, wills, marriage/death
certificates etc) over the years. I've been organizing them of late and have
them stored in one folder rather than scattered all over my HD in various
places.

I started attaching a few to the respective individuals in my Legacy database
(via the Picture Gallery icon). Thankfully, before I went too far it dawned on
me 'how do I find those with obits in the future'? Right now they show up,
along with photos of the individual, when I click on the Picture icon. Photos
are stored in a separate path/folder; documents in another path/folder - both
paths noted in CUSTOMIZE/LOCATIONS.

I don't want to link all these documents to the individual only to find I can't
locate those with specific document at a later date for a report.

Am I wrong in linking these to the individual using the Picture Gallery option?
How should I do it if this is not the proper option?

I'm not sure what you mean by [can't locate later for a report]. If you
use a picture from the Picture Gallery to print in a report, reports, at
best, will only print one for each person, not all of them. If you could
be clearer with what you're trying to accomplish or may want to
accomplish in the future, it would be easier to answer your query.

The advantage of typing them is for the content to show up in Reports.
If I type out an obit (and it's not that hard) it becomes part of a
report for that person. What's the point otherwise?

Printing photos of source documents in the Legacy reports, where that's
an option, will give you a small thumbnail, not a full size document
that anyone could read anyway.

Having the images attached to Legacy makes them immediately available
for viewing. I think that's the point.

print one photo - but as I said only those of spouses, not direct
descendants. I am talking rtf version of the Descendant Book Report.
Haven't as yet tried other versions such as pdf.

Also, I know this has been discussed before, and I have checked the
archives but the responses do not solve the problem. Like Ruth Nerud
I have two sets of source citations - one set where expected, and a
second, shorter set after the Name Index. I fe Was there a
workaround or a way to solve the problem?lt there were other
responses at the time, but I can't locate them in the archives. Can
 anyone help?

 Cheers
 Jan
