[LegacyUG] New updates changes my colors

2010-07-15 Thread Noddie
Hi again everyone

It seems that every time I update Legacy it changes my color
selections I have always used, and defaults to the ones Legacy wants
to use.

I have kept my color scheme thankfully, but I still cannot remember
how to change the Label color on the Edit event screen.
They are in Red and I want to change it to something more subdue.
Also I note that the Labels on the Family screen
File | Edit | Add | View etc now have a white background with white
Black Text for the labels. I would like to change the background if it
is possible.
Thanks for any help, and I do wonder why every time a change in the
way of an update arrives, it changes my color scheme?
Any ideas.
Ta
Gwen

RE: [LegacyUG] test

2010-07-15 Thread Brian L. Lightfoot
I'm not sure just how pertinent this is to Legacy's links to FamilySearch or to
the LegacyFS Group, but many of us are probably now aware that the LDS church
has now begun to pull many census images and other image documents off the
servers that were called www.pilot.familysearch.org and are in the process of
migrating them over to new servers at www.fsbeta.familysearch.org.

This means at least two things that I can think of:
  1. Anyone who created Master Sources in Legacy referencing the URL of any
images from the "pilot" servers, have or will have dead links.
  2. The days of viewing census images for free from the LDS church are almost
over. Well, actually they'll still be "free" but it will cost you some time and
effort.

As mentioned previously on this group, the new FamilySearch beta servers where
the images are now at are up and running and open the LDS church members and
anyone from the public. But there is a catch. In order to view any image, you
have to be a "premiere member". In order to be a premiere member, you have to
be a member of the church, or you can index records to accumulate a certain
number of points. The indexing of records (typing in names, dates, etc) is done
from images that you download from them. I don't want to go into more detail on
this as it is not germane to Legacy but certainly can affect many Legacy users
who want to view census images. Full info at
http://indexing.fsbeta.familysearch.org/

One interesting thing: I already have indexed more than enough names and
records from FamilySearch so I can view images from their new server as a
premiere member. When I try this through the Legacy icon link, I'm logging in
with my usual premiere member name but the page then goes dead. Not sure if the
Legacy program link is an old one or if the problem still lies in the fact that
these new FamilySearch servers are BETA where there are still a multitude of
problems to be sorted out. It's all being worked on every day.

[LegacyUG] Still having trouble merging a file from Ancestry.com

2010-07-15 Thread Susan Broadbooks
There was a good discussion Jan. 12 2010 about how to successfully import a
file from Ancestry.com. I am following the instructions that Robert Mann
described, but I am still having problems with the merge. Can anyone assist
me? I must warn you, I am still a relative newbie with Legacy.

Here is what I have done.

I uploaded a selected portion of my Legacy file to Ancestry.com - about 80
individuals. I added the information I wanted on Ancestry and then
downloaded the gedcom from Ancestry. I created a new Legacy file from the
downloaded gedcom, and then exported this as a Legacy file. I then imported
the new Legacy file into my complete main Legacy file. I used Intellishare
to merge the duplicates. Even though I only imported 80 individuals,
Intellishare gives me over 2000 possible matches. Some of these possible
matches are not even of the same sex or the same surname. I'm sure I must be
doing something wrong. I would appreciate any assistance.

Thanks,
Sue

By narrative reports I meant all the reports that are narrative style as
opposed to those which are "chart" style like the FGR and individual Report.

That subject is going to set a cat amongst the pigeons :-) A lot of

Gwen,

Full details are given in the main Help files, but to change the Event
Colours, by which I think you mean the colour when a source is present, then
use the Contents button on the Customise>Colours screen, where all the other
options are.

If I may make a suggestion, although I don't know why you should lose your
colour scheme *every time* you update they can be lost, as can a lot of
other stuff as well. This is true when updating, so always back-up any
program before updating. Specifically on your window colours, it would seem
that you do not save your colour scheme, there is a button for this on the
bottom right of the colours screen. So if you do lose it then just load it
back in!
