Re: [LegacyUG] Transferring Legacy Family Tree

2010-08-10 Thread Richard Van Wasshnova
Darlene,

You don't make it clear what you are having trouble extracting. Sounds
to me like the zipped multimedia files? If that is the case do you
have a 3rd party compression program installed such as securezip,
filzip or 7-zip? Some of them add password protection.

Also your signature is a bit too long to send to a user group.

Re: [LegacyUG] newcomer

2010-08-10 Thread RICHARD SCHULTHIES
I'm sorry. As you have found, many of us leave unclear (to us) questions for
the impending re-ask. First which chart? Pedigree, or one created from the
Charting Program. If you want  a person who has a photo attached, to not print
his/her spot on a report, then you have two choices (maybe more). Neither are
'good'. First, remove the photo from the person, print the report, then re add
it; or scan a blank piece of paper, then make that the chosen photo for that
person in that report. Since the program 'reads' the photo to collect what the
camera saw regarding dpi and size of  the area grabbed, you now have to almost
confuse the computer, and I don't how (did accidently once, no clue how).
The page size depends on your printer and its programs, which Legacy handshakes
the details of to/from your computer.
I hope this helps

Emily,

I guess that you have not had much of a response, because you do not
actually say what you are trying to produce - so I will assume a report.

Basically Pictures attached to Sources or Vital Events will not be printed.
The only pictures to be selected are the first persons in the Picture
Gallery for an individual or an Event. Sizes are set in the Report Options
as it the Page size. Note also that not all options are available for all
reports.

I'm sending this reply to both the list and to Emily directly to ensure
she sees it. Emily, if you're not receiving all/any of the mail please
contact Legacy Support for assistance.

Yes, your post made it to the list. Both of your posts are visible in
the archive - see the link at the end of every post.

Some mail services do not return a copy of your own posts to you. If
this is happening to you, it's something you just have to get used to.
The archives are there so you can check if you have any doubts, though
keep in mind that there's sometimes a delay before posts reach the archive.

I don't use charts much, so don't know the answers to your questions
about them.

Kind Regards,

I think in V7 you can search for a Source Citation which contains
"2014483" ... then tag all the individuals in the search list. You can
then cycle thru all the tagged individuals looking for the specific
citation that contains "2014483" and make the necessary change,
untagging the individual when you have finished.

Darlene,

Legacy does not have a setting which will privatise your files (as distinct
from privatising an individual for reports), so you need to look at your
computer settings. You do not say what your operating system is, but you may
have it set for these files to read only, if so you need to enable file
sharing. How you do this, and the other possibilities depends on your
operating system.

I guess you must be right, Brian, your server must have it in for me!! I get
them OK, but that doesn't count, does it? I doubt if support will be able to
help you though, as it does seem likely that there is something between our
two ISPs which is causing the problem. May be your's isn't too happy with

[LegacyUG] Why do I not get the original post from Ron Ferguson?

I never saw this post by Ron. I only learn about a post from him when
somebody replies to it. I've tried to think of any legitimate reason for
this but can't come up with anything. And just to answer all, no problems in
getting any other messages from the group; no problems with spam settings at
ISP level (I do my own filtering within the client and I peruse all Junk
mail just to make sure); no problems with other messages coming from across
the pond. The only thing I can think of is that the server just doesn't like
Ron and is playing favorites. :-)

Am I the only one? I'll think about this for a day or two before contacting
support. Weird huh?

[LegacyUG] newcomer

2010-08-10 Thread Emily Rosenberg
I sent a message to the list Sunday and now it is Tuesday and I have not
heard anything. Am I on the list and just have no one interested in the
question? That's fine, just want to know if I am reaching the list. Thanks.
Emily in California

These were my questions, most answered by a call to Legacy Support. Most of
the answers not satisfactory in terms of functionality but at least I now
know the limits.

Where do I select whether or not to include a person's picture in the chart

Can I include picture for some but not all people

Can I adjust the size of the picture if I am using it from the person's
"gallery: in Legacy 7.4

Is there a way to determine page size so that I can fine tune my layout for
11 inch or 14 inch paper? I know I can change orientation but that doesn't
address it for me.

Thanks so much

[LegacyUG] LTools - Fixing Source Details

2010-08-10 Thread Laura Johnson
I am not sure exactly how to ask this question so I am going to give as
much info as possible.

I have been researching one town in Sicily for about 35+ years. I have
been transcribing all of the LDS filmed documents for that town for over
12 years now and have been slowly entering them into Legacy. I
originally started this file in FTM in 2001 and have entered over 25,000
documents so far. When FTM 2008 could not handle the file and was too
slow to use, I started experimenting with Legacy and by the time FTM
2009 came out and it wasn't any easier to use and still had the same
problems with the file, I switched entirely to Legacy.

When I started out, I setup exactly how I wanted the Master sources in
the Basic source writer and have stuck to those as those are the only
types of documents available for the time period of the documents. So
for example, my Master Source is called: 01 - Nascite - LDS Filmed
Document and I setup the detail regarding type of source, repository,
etc the way I wanted it to read.

When I entered the "Source Details", I entered them as follows:
"Film #2014483, Document #57" or "Film #1688171, Document #446"
This is fine EXCEPT that most of the films contain documents from many
years (Film #2014483 contains the years of 1885 thru 1910) so there will
be 25 marriage sources that contain the same source details but they are
NOT the same document but because they are documents from different years.

What I would like to know is if there is a way search and find all
individuals who have Film #2014483 in their source details and be able
to edit it to include the year in the source details so that it would
read for example: Film #2014483, Year 1890, Document #19.

Can I do this from within Legacy itself or would it be easier in
LTools? I have the free download but am willing to go to the deluxe
version if it can facilitate this much faster? I have not really
experimented with LTools yet as I really didn't need any of the options
that were available in the free download on the file.

I am open to all suggestions on how to proceed.

Charles,

The order of spouses is as that set by the user, and applies to all reports.
If you click on the spouse icon, in Family View, you will see the spouses
and the order in which they appear is as they will be in the reports. You
can change the order by using the Up/Down arrow to move a highlighted
spouse.
