Re: [LegacyUG] How to enter census data into my Legacy records.
Syble, Not quite, I copy the images to the Source Detail multimedia so that I always have them available for my own use, but I do not publish them. Tim, your link was interesting, but as it says it relates to US copyright law, this does not affect UK Crown Copyright which expressly forbids the publishing of census images without consent. The data can, of course, be extracted and published in a format of one's own. [LegacyUG] The Unknown Marriage Partner
This time I have a simple question that I just can't remember that probably won't require help from Dennis' LTools program. Is it required that in order to show a child of a mother or father and the partner is completely unknown and therefore nameless, that Legacy automatically puts in the Unknown spouse? That seems to be the case because when I deleted an unknown spouse/partner male, the children were automatically deleted from the mother also. Then when I linked them back to the mother, the unknown spouse comes right back automatically. Just one of those necessary things, eh? I forgot how that works. -- Jerry - MerriamFamilyTree.org Legacy User Group guidelines: http://www.LegacyFamilyTree.com/Etiquette.asp Archived messages after Nov. 21 2009: http://www.mail-archive.com/legacyusergroup@legacyusers.com/ Archived messages from old mail server - before Nov. 21 2009: http://www.mail-archive.com/legacyusergroup@legacyfamilytree.com/ Online technical support: http://www.LegacyFamilyTree.com/Help.asp Follow Legacy on Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/LegacyFamilyTree) and on our blog (http://news.LegacyFamilyTree.com). Re: [LegacyUG] The Unknown Marriage Partner
UPDATE: Well, actually I guess it's just a placeholder for the unknown spouse or partner because it does say [0] for the RIN, which indicates there is no person actually in that field, so I guess I answered my own question. It was just confusing me because there is an entry in the marriage list for that unknown person and the person I do have named. Thanks! [LegacyUG] SourceWriter for obituaries?
I just entered an obituary for which I have an electronic copy of the article itself (unfortunately, without newspaper name, date or page). I used the Newspaper template, because the Death Records template didn't have obituary as a source, and I didn't see an Obituary template. I had previously entered an obituary with SourceWriter, but it doesn't appear to be the Newspaper template... and I don't see how to determine which template I used. I like the resulting format of the earlier-added obituary. Can someone help me find out which template I used? Or can someone recommend which template YOU use for obituariies? I will add as a picture on death event for individual, but it is just a source for members of the family. Re: [LegacyUG] Legacy forms - add-ons?
I typically request these via the vital records, etc.'s own website. Would love to hear there is a preferred/standard format. However, you could just go to your state's website and see what information they require as a basis for your own 'form' letter. FYI, I found you can't request 'recent' records, but the definition is different by state. Also, the cost is usually on the website... sending the right amount the first time speeds it up (and doesn't tick them off). --Paula in Texas Researching: Adair Baker Beasley Benson Betz Bigley Blagrave Burton Chapman Clement Clough Coppernoll Costine Daulton Dinwiddie Doody Ellis Exline Field Floran Floyd Gates Goodale Gordon Gump Hale Harbaugh Hind Hopkins Hughes Hurdle Jones Klein Koyle Laswell McDonald Misner Passwaters Pelton Roberts Roche Ryburn Short Singer Sullivan Weller Williams - Original Message From: Sherry/Support she...@legacyfamilytree.com To: LegacyUserGroup@LegacyUsers.com Sent: Wed, September 14, 2011 11:10:58 AM Subject: Re: [LegacyUG] Legacy forms - add-ons? You can still use the newspaper template but because you don't know the name of the paper, you will only be able to use this source for this one entry (extreme splitter!). Or to be more of a lumper like some of us so we don't get overrun with too many separate sources, you could use something like: NEWSPAPER - Michigan, USA or whatever, and put the part about the actual name of the newspaper (known or not known) as part of the source detail, attached to the person, not the master source itself, if that makes sense. Paula: If you want to use the same template, why don't you just look in the Master Source List, find the previously entered SourceWriter source, click Edit, and the box that pops up will tell you (at the top) exactly which template it was. You can even edit at that point and save it as a new source without over-writing the original. [LegacyUG] Combining master source entries--problem and solution!
Thank you Jenny for posting the really weird solution to not getting the highlight destination button when trying to combine master sources last month. Thank you Legacy for maintaining the archives. ;) I don't know why it happens - does anyone else every find this? - but sometimes when I want to combine Sources the button doesn't change when I click on it. I then need to click on Edit, close the screen without making any changes and click the Combine button again and it works -- Jenny M Benson BTW: I LIKED seeing the template numbers... how can I turn those on MYSELF? The option to show them comes up when you try to combine sources with different template #'s, but I might could use that with my obituary template issue. Thanks Sherry - I'm thinking the older one was website and this one is newspaper, but I will probably change to always use newspaper because it is mainly the newspaper's website (thx Michele) and try to lump them (thx Jerry). I have found that when someone joins this group, they start recieving future messages when sent but no pre-dating. You will not see your own message unless your ISP allows that, but usually you have to ask for that. So some of us answer as many of these as we can to welcome new people. Re: [LegacyUG] The Unknown Marriage Partner
Sorry, Rich, what do you mean not a problem? It is a pain in the neck. I don't want them and I have to remove them from every record on which they appear - this involves three search and replace runs for all web files and I have a few thousand! All things such as this are programming things; in my book there is no difference between a programming thing and a problem, they are the same.
I download to 'free' webpages that accept gedcoms now, so I am stepping out of this. (Name withheld). Have you sent a request for a repair to support? That might be a better idea.
