Re: [LegacyUG] LTools
Good advice about always backing up your file and working with the backup to see what happens first. LTools was a real blessing to me a couple times in doing some things with Legacy that you could not easily do in Legacy alone, if at all. So, I see LTools and Dennis as a real boost and promotion for the Legacy software. --Jerry in Michigan On 01/31/2012 11:55 AM, Sherry/Support wrote: > Thanks for the information Ron. > > I would like to add that this is *not* an official Legacy Add-on and > is not supported by Legacy. > > Be sure to back up your Family File, per the warnings throughout the > program. Re: [LegacyUG] Location List clean-up
Re: Where to put address, cemetery name, church name, etc. I put them both in the Location and in the Address forms (behind the + buttons as previous mentioned). Why? That's the real question, right? In the Location fields because of the flexibility it provides for searches, reports, mapping and so on. Unfortunately, it seems the address forms behind the + buttons have very little limited usage beyond data entry (I think one or two reports my be able to access this info.). I still use this field so that I am ready should Legacy ever expand the use of the data entered in these forms. My thinking I'd not have to play catchup in that event. If I were to limit it to one or the other, I'd go with the Location field. Re: [LegacyUG] Location List clean-up
Question 1. I am not sure what you want when you say is there a way to trace a location back to a document. Locations are entered for Events and Facts for individuals and marriages. When you open the Master Location List you can see a list of the people who use each location. Question 2 and 3. To me these seem to be similar in asking how to enter cemetery details/addresses. There are two schools of thought on entering Cemetery Names and addresses. One school includes the postal address and name of the cemetery as part of the location for the burial event in the individual's information screen. They do this so the location mapping feature can locate a map pin at the cemetery within the town and so cemetery names appear in the Master Location List. Legacy has Addresses that can be linked to events. If you elect to use the Address then click on the plus sign opposite the burial event and select Burial Address. You can enter the full address details there. If there are many people buried in the same cemetery you can link one Address to each person by clicking on the Address List button on the Address entry screen. Addresses however cannot be mapped using the mapping feature even though you can enter a Latitude and Longitude for the address. When you're in the Master Location list and click on a location you can see a list of Individuals that use that Location, but not exactly where they use it. You'll need to look at the person's entry and see where the location was entered. > > 2. Where does one place the _name of the cemetery_ - in the space for > location for the "Individual Information" or in the "individual's event" > or in the "event notes"? Rather depends where you *want* to put it! Some of us put the name at the start of the Location, others only put City, State, Country (or equivalent) as a Location and put street addresses, including Cemetery addresses in the Event Address fields - either the Address field behind the + next to Birth, Baptism, Death, Burial, or the Event Address for Events or Marriage. > > 3. Where does one place the _address of an cemetery or individual_ - in > the space for "Individual Information" or in the "individual's event" or > in the "event notes"? See above re adding Cemetery names to Addresses or Locations. The place for a person's current address is the Address field which you access via the "house" icon on the Individual's Information screen. For addresses at time of Birth, Baptism of whatever see previous paragraph. Usually, Cemetery details will be attached to the Burial field, but you might want to create an Event for some specific information, such as a Headstone inscription. -- Jenny M Benson Legacy User Group guidelines: http://www.LegacyFamilyTree.com/Etiquette.asp Archived messages after Nov. 21 2009: http://www.mail-archive.com/legacyusergroup@legacyusers.com/ Archived messages from old mail server - before Nov. 21 2009: http://www.mail-archive.com/legacyusergroup@legacyfamilytree.com/ Online technical support: http://www.LegacyFamilyTree.com/Help.asp Follow Legacy on Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/LegacyFamilyTree) and on our blog (http://news.LegacyFamilyTree.com). That is one way to do it, but you need to make sure that the starting person is a member of the most recent generation, as that tool will not tag individuals in generations more recent than the starting person. The Henry number method will always work because it sets the user ID for everyone with a blood relationship. You asked how setting a user ID will solve your problem. You need to think out of the box. If I clear all user IDs and then populate only the user IDs of blood relatives (with a Henry number), then I can use Legacy's search to tag individuals with a user ID not equal to blank. -- Dennis Kowallek (LTools/Custom Programming) http://zippersoftware.com/ltools/index.htm http://groups.yahoo.com/group/ltools Legacy User Group guidelines: http://www.LegacyFamilyTree.com/Etiquette.asp Archived messages after Nov. 21 2009: http://www.mail-archive.com/legacyusergroup@legacyusers.com/ Archived messages from old mail server - before Nov. 21 2009: http://www.mail-archive.com/legacyusergroup@legacyfamilytree.com/ Online technical support: http://www.LegacyFamilyTree.com/Help.asp Follow Legacy on Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/LegacyFamilyTree) and on our blog (http://news.LegacyFamilyTree.com). A few of the functions are what may be regarded as a more specialised interest, which Legacy is most unlikely ever to incorporate. It is not the only add-on for Legacy, btw., indeed, Legacy has a number on their own website, but not LTools. This post is really off- topic as LTools is not a Legacy product, so my apologies, there is an Ltools Forum and I recommend visiting http://zippersoftware.com/wp/ltools/what-is-ltools/ Ron Ferguson http://www.fergys.co.uk/ From: Marli Yoder Sent: Tuesday, January 31, 2012 12:32 PM To: LegacyUserGroup@LegacyUsers.com Subject: [LegacyUG] LTools Question- why do we have an add on for Legacy of tricks (LTools) that was not incorporated by Legacy themselves? Re: [LegacyUG] LTools
Marli, Ltools is a product which is written by a Legacy user to provide additional functionality which for one reason or another Legacy have not chosen to incorporate into their own product. Although initially written for the author’s own use, many of the tools have been introduced at the request of Legacy users. Some, for example, the HTML routine overcomes a number of bugs in the Legacy Pedigree web pages and incorporates CSS to replace HTML attributes, that alone is worth $10 for the deluxe edition (the basic addition is free). A few of the functions are what may be regarded as a more specialised interest, which Legacy is most unlikely ever to incorporate. -- Dennis Kowallek (LTools/Custom Programming) http://zippersoftware.com/ltools/index.htm http://groups.yahoo.com/group/ltools NOTE TO LUG USERS: Use plain text if you want me to read your post.
