[LegacyUG] Chronological marriage list

2012-04-03 Thread Corney Keller
Hello Brian and Ron,

Brian: Does your answer imply that there is another screen that does?

Ron: Thanks for the suggestions. I'll try them.

I've also tried using the 'Sort marriages by date' option in Dennis' Ltools,
but I see not effect once I've sorted all marriages.

Hello,

I'm trying to create a list of all the marriages in my database in
chronological order.
To create a marriage list I use the menu 'View > Marriage List' , also
'CTRL+M'.
The only sorting options available, as far a I can tell, is by:
- MRIN
- Husband
- Wife
by selecting the appropriate button in the top of the window.
Under options, there is one more, 'Sort by given name, surname' and vice
versa.

So where do I look to sort by date?

[LegacyUG] Search List Question

2012-04-03 Thread ChuckH44 .

Tony, see if this will work for you. If I understand correctly what you are
wanting to do.
1. Create your Census List.
2. Tag those in the list just created, for instance, Tag #3
3. Use the "Find First" button in the Search Window. The Primary Condition
would be: Individual, Tag #3, Equal to, Tagged. Also, make sure the "Clear List
before search" option is checked
4. Fix that person and then clear the tag #3 on that person
5. Then repeat steps 3 and 4 to get the next person to work on

[LegacyUG] Search List Question

2012-04-03 Thread Tony Rolfe
Is there a way to create a search list and start using the list from
somewhere other than the first entry?

I have created a list of people who might be alive for the 1911 census
(Thanks census tool) by tagging on tag 1. I spent some time researching
these folk and went about half way through. Then I needed to create a
different search list and, when I had finished with that, I went back to
look at the 1911 census. I recreated the list from the tags but can
only start at the beginning. Even if I browse the list, double-click
the person I want to start with, deal with them, when I so a "find
next", it goes to the second person on the list.

At the moment I have to start at the beginning, "Find Next" through a
few hundred people to get where I want to be.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks

Tony

Judy,
Usually on earlier census the “dwelling” was equivalent to the “no. of
household in order of visit”.

When I was entering information into Legacy Source Writer details
page for a 1940 census, I noticed that Legacy had kept the fields of
'"dwelling," and family."  However, the 1940 census uses "house number",
no. of household in order of visit'" and  "home owned/rented."

Which would you suggest to be used for "dwelling," the number on the census
for "house number", or "no. of household in order of visit?'"

AWESOME! I just KNEW there had to be a way to TAG these folks!
*thump* ---the old Options>Show List stand-by!

Still, might want to include the singles, since the research trip is for
everyone with events in Kentucky. If all she takes with her are the FGRs, she
won't know about those other individuals. Might just discover one of those DID
get married.

Here's an easier way:

1. With location list sorted right to left, right click on 1st KY location; go
down to last KY location and, with Shift key depressed, left click. You should
now have all KY locations highlighted.
2. In upper right corner of screen, select Options; select Show List. This
should give you a list of all individuals who have an event with a KY location.
At the bottom of this screen, select an unused Individual Tag #, say #3, and
select Tag Everyone in List. Now all individuals with a KY location should be
tagged #3.
3. Now, select Reports, Family; set the Report Options; click on Record
Selection; Select Individuals with tag #3. You may want to unselect Single
Males and Single Females to avoid creating FGRs for them. Preview. You should
have a FGR for everyone on your list.

The LTools website is

Since all my ancestors are from the deep south I decided to help solve the
problems of names not being indexed as yet on the 1940 census. I volunteer with
the LDS (no, not a member) to index. Yesterday I indexed a military base in
Delaware for the census then did several other indexing projects. After you
learn how to do it you can tell them what states you want to index and when

Also, when you sign up to index they will "usually" give you access to the NFS.

Try it, it is a lot of fun. The sooner we all join and get it done the sooner

Re: [LegacyUG] Chronological marriage list

2012-04-03 Thread Ron Taylor
One other method for printing data from Legacy that I often use is GenViewer.
You can find more about it at the bottom of the Legacy Family Tree home page.
It was written by Luc, the same who has been writing the LegacyFS interface
program. That program can show the data in Legacy and many other genealogy
databases. The "List" tab works much like a spreadsheet in that you can click
on a column heading and have the display sorted ascending or descending. The
"Columns" button allows you to customize the display. Most of the printing and
viewing limitations of Legacy are solved by using it. I especially love its
"Highlighting" capabilities.

Michelle - I too have found the lack of a bit of humor on this site a sad
commentary. A lot of folks using this site are wound way too tight! Genealogy

Re: [LegacyUG] Chronological marriage list

2012-04-03 Thread Ron Taylor
It would be consistent if Millennia had a "CSV File" selection under the Marr
List Print function similar to that under the Name List Print. Then you could
easily push the marriages to a spreadsheet and sort as desired. You might be
able to print to a file by routing the printer output to a text file instead of
directly to the printer and then parse that output into the spreadsheet and
sort it. The other possibility would be to use the Index view and have
Millennia add a print function to that screen. If you can use Microsoft Access
or Open Office, you can pull the data from the tables outside of Legacy.

[LegacyUG] Chronological marriage list

2012-04-03 Thread Corney Keller

Regards,

Corney Keller
