Re: [LegacyUG] Problem going from family View to Name List - can't have one without the other
Is this deja vu? This problem exists only when Include Married Names is ticked exclusively. If Include Alternate Names' is also ticked there is no problem. Problem also exists for same individuals when only Alternate is selected so solution is you can't have one without the other. This problem was discussed years ago though I can't find it in archives. Don't recall the solution then. -- Richard Van Wasshnova On Thu, Feb 7, 2013 at 6:56 PM, Boyd Miller bo...@vodafone.net.nz wrote: Richard, If you go to Name List Options and check Include Married Names, you get double listings for married women. When you go from the highlighted person on the Family screen to the name list, it sometimes, but not always, takes you to the top of the list, to the people with no surname, rather than to the highlighted person. I don't know why it sometimes takes you to the highlighted name and sometimes not. When you uncheck the married names option, it goes back to the normal state of taking you from the person on the Family screen directly to the same person on the Name List. Is this you problem? RE: [LegacyUG] Missing File
I thought that I’d chime in here for two reasons. 1. Transfer cables work as advertised. But email works just as well and is free (email from one computer and then receive it on the other). If the total file sizes are great, then consider spending $4.99 and get an 8 GB Flash Drive that will work even better. 2. Another subject not yet mentioned from your original posts concerns your file names. I noticed an example of some files that were appearing in your missing multimedia file list were ending with a space. For example, c:\Legacy\Pictures \Czarniecki Brian . jpg. Notice that there seems to be a space between the “n” in Brian and the period before jpg. This can cause the user all sorts of problems especially if you have your Windows settings to hide extensions for known file types. I would suggest you use the Picture Center in Legacy to rename any of these filenames that end with a space. Remember that if you move or rename these multimedia file using only Windows, then Legacy doesn’t know anything about what Windows did and will continue to look for the old filename using the existing link that was previously created (probably the source of your problem). With your help and a little luck I was able to clear the Master File Error, and reduce the 11 pages of Media Errors to just 4 lines, which I then cleared. The problem made me review Volume 1 and 2 of the Training video's I purchased. I found I did not know as much as I though. What does Legacy think about using a Transfer cable to move Legacy from one computer to another? I have been using that method for over a year. Once again Thanks. If so, double click on one of them to bring up the Find File window and select to let Legacy search for the file. If you go to the c:\Legacy\Pictures folder, are the pictures in the report there? From the Help file: List of Missing Files You can produce a list of all the missing multimedia files in the family file by selecting the option: Make a List of All Multimedia Files before clicking the Proceed button. All missing files are logged in a text file called Missing.txt in the Legacy folder. At the end of the process, Legacy offers to open and display this list in NotePad. The list also includes the name and RIN number of the individual associated with each missing file. Unlinking Unreferenced Multimedia Paths When you link a multimedia file to someone or something in Legacy, the path to the file is added to the Master Multimedia Path List. When you remove a link, the path is not automatically removed from the list because other files may be using it. If you would like Legacy to check each path in the list and then remove the paths that are no longer being used, select the Unlink unreferenced picture, sound, video, and document paths option. Re[5]: [LegacyUG] Source Writer and Individual Report Output
Jurisdiction is not what I am referring to. In step 2 of the source writer one can find the Repository field (5th data field down). To the right of the data field is a box with dots from which one can select a repository that has been recorded. Or, one can click on the plus sign and go to the a repository window to record the repository name, address, etc. Either way, when a repository is selected only the city name shows in the repository city field. And in the the Output preview, only the city name shows and does not include the state or country, after the city. It appears from looking at Asa Clark Brown's records, the state and country do not appear after the listing for the Minnesota Department of Vital Statistics, just the city. Possibly because the state is referenced earlier in the citation. However, in some of the other sources, the state is shown when the individual report is run. Perhaps this all goes back to relying on the source writer programming to output the best way to reference resources based on genealogy standards. -- Original Message -- From: Ron Walter ronwal...@sonic.net To: LegacyUserGroup@legacyusers.com Sent: 2/5/2013 8:33:46 PM Subject: Re[4]: [LegacyUG] Source Writer and Individual Report Output I placed a state name in the Jurisdiction field of a birth record master created at the state level. Did you enter a state name in the Jurisdiction field? On Tue 13/02/05 23:05 , Sentz ro...@nycap.rr.com sent: When you begin adding a master source using the source writer you go to step 2. One of the tabs across the top offers a screen to enter the repository. I have added 4-5 repositories thus far. One can also change the repository or add one by highlighting the master source and clicking on the edit source button. Going to the source detail has the repository data field which permits selecting from the existing repository list or adding a new repository name/location. As mentioned previously, the state appears in the listing for the repository, however it does not show in the Output preview for the source nor does it show in the Bibliography, etc. in the Individual Report Print Preview. I did not see if it would print out. I am assuming that what one sees on the print preview screen is the same as what one would see in the print version. Hope that this is a clear enough explanation so that you can test this. -- Original Message -- From: Ron Ferguson ronfergy@tiscali.co.uk To: LegacyUserGroup@legacyusers.com Sent: 2/5/2013 6:48:25 AM Subject: Re: Re[2]: [LegacyUG] Source Writer and Individual Report Output Ron, Cathy, I am from the UK, so not the best person to answer detailed questions regarding the attribution of American Sources to either a State or a County!
