Yes, I but forgot how I got there. set order in 'Alpha', then merge, not delete

[LegacyUG] duplicate spouses

2013-02-10 Thread JLB
I've merged several small files together. Not that much overlap. Like
almost none. All the MRINs are/were as I want them. After running LTools
to put the MRINs into the UserID fields, I noticed (and this may have
nothing to do with LTools) that many of the people in the database have
two versions of the same spouse. Not duplicate people but just two
listings of the same spouse in the Spouse list. And each one has a
different MRIN; the original and another one.

I'm going through the names un-linking one spouse but I have no way of
knowing which MRIN I'm deleting so this is getting treacherous.

And it's messy. I'm just saying. Has anyone heard of a similar problem?
And is there an easy fix for it?

Oh, and I also noticed this problem after running File Maintenance
thinking that might help the database overall. Apparently not.

Tag your Search list with an unused tag, say 8 for example. Create a
Focus Group comprising Direct Line Ancestors and tag that group with,
say tag 9 for example. Then Search for Individuals with Tag 9 AND Tag 9
set to tagged.

(There might be a simpler way, but I seem to be suffering from brain fog

I'm not sure exactly what you're trying to find, but there is a "history" of the

to the right of the big blue "back" arrow is a little downward-facing blue

Since Sending my inquiry below, I have more questions, which I will
work into my expanded text and responses.

I created a new Master Source through the Source Writer by
selecting Birth Records and selecting Birth Certificate and followed
the procedure for step 1 and then for step 2. Under repository, I
selected myself, since I have an original of my birth certificate.
However, the displayed citation in the Preview Output for the
footnote and the bibliography only includes my city, not the state.
I checked my repository listing and it doesn't seem to matter if New
York is spelled out or abbreviated, either way it does not show in
the citation examples in the Output Preview. I did not see how one
could change the footnote and bibliography text when I went into
over ride. What is going on here?

[When I was born, I am pretty sure that the birth certificates were
generated by the county rather than the state. I would like to
create a general source in the master source list for California
Birth certificates and not include the county of origin. I plan to
get other birth certificates for my parents, etc. who were born in
different counties. The question is whether one has to make a
separate source in the master source list for each county of origin
for the documents or would it be better to just name the source
California Birth Certificates and do the birth certificates at the
state level in the master source list? The county could be
referenced in the source detail. The certificates are paper. ]

Next, when I went to the source detail and finished entering
everything, I went back to check the

The boxes that you indicate (1) are where "ancestor colours" show.

Those people are not your direct line ancestors, they are an uncle of
yours and his wife. Only your parents, grandparents, great-grandparents
etc are ancestors of yours.

(1) Which you shouldn't have done because attachments are not allowed

RE: [LegacyUG] Not in current ancestor line

2013-02-10 Thread Roland Rhoades
Click on "HOME" icon to find your starting person. To change it, go to yourself
or whoever, and go to OPTIONS > Select startup family. OR >> go to you and
then TOOLS > Set relationships and/or apply ancestor colors.
As you add more people, you need to reset these again to have them included.

This box is blank for every record in my file of hundreds of entries, including
myself. Since each entry shows its relationship to me, from father to 3rd
great grandfather, it would seem as though I'm linked correctly; or am I
missing something, an obscure setting or something? Perhaps if I knew how to
change the starting person or at least check to see who it is, that may solve
the problemany hints?

Brian is correct, however there is another way to look at it...

As the relationships are currently calculated, this person is not an ancestor
of the person to whom the relationships are calculated.

Without knowing exactly who the person is that you're looking at (and not
having seen v6 for a long time now), I'll hazard a guess at possible
solutions:

1) It might be that choosing a different person as the start will produce a
line of ancestry that includes this person - perhaps a child of the person who
is currently the starting person?

2) Do you have this person linked to the right people in order to be showing
as an ancestor of your starting person? Perhaps there is more work to be done
in your file?

Hope this helps. :-)

Kind Regards,
Wendy
