[LegacyUG] I'm getting an Endless Loop message

2013-03-03 Thread Brian Lehman
Hello all,
I am having a problem I've never encountered before. I just entered a
large generational family.
While going through the Descendant tab, I get a pop up, that says:
This marriage has now been processed 6 times. You could be in an
endless loop. Note this MRIN # and check it later. and Warn after 5
encounters. I continue and get the same message, this happens on MRIN
746 and 336. Two messages then continues as normal.
On MRIN 746, is a married couple, Sam and Hannah, they had 8
children, one of which is Elmer,
and Elmer is the MRIN 336. He has no wife but a son.
I've checked all relationships, marriages, children etc for these 2
MRINs, everything looks good,
ran all File Maintenance, and still the problem continues.
I now have no Idea where to check this or how to fix this. I would
appreciate any advice on dealing with an Endless Loop.
Than You,
Brian Lehman

gives the option to add DTH CAU for cause of death.
How do I edit this info, as I recently found the cause of death on several

In the FAMILY view, with your arrow on the name of the person you want to add
COD info, Right-ClickNOTES to open the NOTES window.

There are three tabs in this window. The third tab is MEDICAL. Click on
MEDICAL and a place to enter CAUSE OF DEATH will be there.

The NOTEPAD icon is also shown below the individual’s name in the FAMILY view.
Click on it to open the notepad and enter COD information as well.

Re: [LegacyUG] I'm getting an Endless Loop message

2013-03-03 Thread Ron Taylor
If this were my file, I would start by looking at the descendant tab for RIN
746 and watch for birthdates out of order like a parent younger than a child.
Then do the same thing for RIN 336. You should detect a repeating descendancy
like someone being their own grandfather. When you find it, then unlink as
necessary and the loop should be broken.

you currently have Cause of Death set for one of them but you can display any

[LegacyUG] Census Head Of Household Question

2013-03-03 Thread Howlanddavisii

Luggers:

I have an ancestor who was a supervisor in an asylum for the insane per the
1880 census. The first person listed for the dwelling is the superintendent of
the facility. When I write a citation for the census, is he the head of the
household or would I show the name of the facility as the household name (i.e.,
McLean Asylum for the Insane Household, 1880 U.S. Census, etc.)?
Thank you in advance for your thoughts.

Re: [LegacyUG] I'm getting an Endless Loop message

2013-03-03 Thread Ron Taylor
A real loop, where someone is their own grandfather, will continue no matter
what option you chose.  Repeating lines can be eliminated as Terri suggested.
I do have a few old royal pedigrees.  When I try to do an Ancestor report, it
will show This individual has now been processed 3 times.  You could be in an
endless loop.  I set the warn again after to 10 and click Continue
Processing.  It will stop again, showing another RIN that has been encountered
multiple times.  I set it to 20 and again it stops.  I set it to 30 and again
it stops.  I set it to 40 and finally it will finish.  That means that I
descend from someone in the database more than 30 different ways.  I set it to
31 and it finishes also so the magic number of duplicate encounters for my
lineeage is 30.  If I had tried higher and higher numbers and never found a
limit to the duplicates being encountered, then I would know that there is a
true endless loop.  For example,
if I had entered the max for the field of 250 and it still bounced back then
there is probably a loop and not simply multiple lineages to the same person.
I doubt that there are real pedigrees with more than 50 duplicate encounters
and that would most likely require a very large database.  A typical family
file may only have a few of these duplicate lineages.
Anyway, by noting the RIN displayed, you can investigate descendants of that
RIN to see if there are any parents younger than their children.  Those are the
real loops.Ron Taylor

Re: [LegacyUG] Census Head Of Household Question

2013-03-03 Thread Ch
I don't know if this can answer your question but here is the 1880 US
Census Instructions to Enumerators, see at:

 https://usa.ipums.org/usa/voliii/inst1880.shtml

...The word family, for the purposes of the census, includes persons
living alone, as previously described, equally with families in the
ordinary sense of that term, and also all larger aggregations of people
having only the tie of a common roof and table. A hotel, with all its
inmates, constitutes but one family within the meaning of this term. A
hospital, a prison, an asylum is equally a family for the purposes of
the census...
...In entering names in column 3, the name of the father, mother, or
other ostensible head of the family (in the case of hotels, jails, etc.,
the landlord, jailer, etc.) is to be entered first of the family.

 Luggers:
I have an ancestor who was a supervisor in an asylum for the
insane per the 1880 census. The first person listed for the dwelling
is the superintendent of the facility. When I write a citation for
the census, is he the head of the household or would I show the name
of the facility as the household name (i.e., McLean Asylum for the
Insane Household, 1880 U.S. Census, etc.)?
Thank you in advance for your thoughts.

Re: [LegacyUG] Census Head Of Household Question

2013-03-03 Thread Howlanddavisii

ChasH:

Thank you for the information. Looks like Edward Cowles is the head of a
very large (employees and inmates) and somewhat crazy family.

I don't know if this can answer your question but here is the
1880US Census Instructions to Enumerators, see at:

https://usa.ipums.org/usa/voliii/inst1880.shtml

...The word family, for the purposes of the census, includespersons
living alone, as previously described, equally with familiesin the ordinary
sense of that term, and also all larger aggregationsof people having only
the tie of a common roof and table. A hotel, with all its inmates,
constitutes but one family within the meaningof this term. A hospital, a
prison, an asylum is equally a familyfor the purposes of the census...
...In entering names in column 3, the name of the father, mother, or
other ostensible head of the family (in the case of hotels, jails, etc., the
landlord, jailer, etc.) is to be entered first of thefamily.

[LegacyUG] I'm getting an Endless Loop message

2013-03-03 Thread Brian Lehman

Well, I did some checking and following the MRIN #s, the ancestry of
each of the couple, converge somewhere back among the generations.
Just to repeat, the problem /only /occurs on the Descendant Tab,
when I hit Go to father,
the message occurs as I scroll up the fathers list.
I also should say What I'm doing is creating a Biblical Tree, written
following relationships found in Genesis,
these relationships were complicated, as biblical people often married
1st or 2nd cousins and share the same ancestry.
My problem occurs with the ancestry of Abraham, the further back I go,
everybody is related to everybody else.
I don't think I'll be able to fix this, through relationship corrections,
so my question is how can I eliminate the endless loop' message?
I've set the warn again in # encounters to the Max 250, but the
message still pops up.
Is there a way to turn off the endless loop' message, on just THIS tree
file and not my other trees?
Thanks again,
Brian
