Re: [LegacyUG] Programmer confidence.
To my immediate responder, I think you miss the point I was making. We are buying a professional product. The penultimate update to my mind , as I said, was un-professional. I made no reference to programmers being responsive or otherwise. I only referred to the penultimate update, which I note has been quickly corrected. This group is about Legacy and its use and a rightful place to express opinions on the product. Your quote: “ I would hate to see this particular thread digress into something negative and contrary to the purposes of this group.” - I wonder what the previous correspondence on all and any topics in this group have actually been about then. If they are “complaints” where else might one direct them to the assistance of all. Surely this group is the right forum, most of whose members don’t seem to be so precious. Re: [LegacyUG] Customisation
Thanks Cathy...I tested that with a download to new file from Family Search Family Tree and it looks like the User-Defaults were applied. It may indeed help with new files but does not help with a change to a customization in one database that the user may expect will be effective in all the databases. Ron Taylor On Wednesday, March 5, 2014 9:37 PM, Cathy Pinner genea...@gmail.com wrote: Hi Ron, This is already there for a new file (that's not a newly converted file but File New File) provided you have saved user defaults. If there are no user-defaults, the Legacy-defaults are used. Cathy At 06:48 AM 6/03/2014, you wrote: As I said, the current version 8.0.0.412 can Save ALL current settings as User-Defaults and then in the other databases Reset to User-Defaults. What I was proposing is a method that could automatically apply the Reset to User-Defaults when a new database is opened. But also a way to assure that all databases get the latest User-Defaults should they be adjusted from time to time...only if the user wishes that to happen. If the user wants each database to have different (ff) settings, that is also possible with the method that I outlined. If there were a way to set the user files are apply them to a new database, I would start Legacy 8 in a heartbeat! But why bother when I must still use Legacy 7.5, because any time I converted my latest 7.5 fdb to Legacy 8, I would have to go through the onerous process of settings all my user settings! The (ff) settings do make sense for multiple databases. The problem is that Legacy assumes that Reset to Legacy-Defaults should be used when opening a database for the first time in Legacy 8 versus Reset to User-Defaults. Once the database has been opened, the (ff) settings are established and work fine from that point forward. A simple question Would you like to apply User-Default customization settings to this database? might be asked when a database is opened the first time in version 8. I think it also happens when a new database is started. That way, the user who assumes all the (ff) settings will be functional in every database that is opened will have that condition. It is assumed that the (gbl) settings will be used in every database for the user. The problem here is that the first time a NEW file opened, there are no user-defined FF settings for the file. You'd need to be able to save the FF settings from a file as a named set that can then be applied to a new file - NOT AN EXISTING FILE! This way, you could have multiple FF sets to select from when a new file is created. -- Regards, Mike Fry Johannesburg (g) Legacy User Group guidelines: http://www.LegacyFamilyTree.com/Etiquette.asp Archived messages after Nov. 21 2009: http://www.mail-archive.com/legacyusergroup@legacyusers.com/ Archived messages from old mail server - before Nov. 21 2009: http://www.mail-archive.com/legacyusergroup@legacyfamilytree.com/ Online technical support: http://www.LegacyFamilyTree.com/Help.asp Follow Legacy on Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/LegacyFamilyTree) and on our blog (http://news.LegacyFamilyTree.com). I've been in and out of the Chronology all day starting with different people and the report is always fine. I don't know what can be going on with your file You could try reinstalling Legacy and if that doesn't help, you probably should contact Support. I have sometimes seen a delay when switching files. The data from the old file can hang around a couple of seconds and sometimes a delay when going to another tab. The other question would be what do you have running in the background? Could that be slowing Legacy? When was the last time you restarted your computer? It looks like your chronology tab is locked on one person although I do not know why. I tried changing to three different people in the Sample File (I did this in Family View). When I clicked on the Chronology Tab the screen showed the correct chronology for those three people. I then changed to another file, which opened in Family View since that is my preferred view, when I clicked on the chron tab the view was the chronology of the person in the new file. Just in case it was the Chronology Report instead of the Chronology View I also used the Options Report button for two different people and a report for the currently selected person was created each time. Here is some drastic surgery to try: 1. close Legacy 2. Use Windows Explorer to open the Legacy Family Tree\_AppData folder in your My Documents 3. RE: [LegacyUG] update 8.0.0.414 messes up chronology report
It is working fine for me too. I checked about 10 people and I flipped back and forth between all of the tabs. When I click on the chronology tab I get the chronology for a different person, not the person I should get. I did a maintenance on my file and that did not change the wrong report. This is not on just one person but on everyone that I have checked. Downloaded the up date last night and went to bed hoping that a restart would help but it didn't. Please help. [LegacyUG] problem with Legacy 8, build 412 and up
I believe that since I updated to build 412 I have started seeing Children in the Family file listed with bolded names. I have been all through option 3.8 in the customization to no avail. I set Use + at the end of name to indicate spouses and continued lines. the other 3.8 options are unchecked, which can cause bolding. However, some of the names in the Children lists still come out bolded, with no seeming rhyme or reason as to why they do. I have wiped out version 8 and reinstalled , to no avail. I have tried resetting options to Legacy default, to no avail. I do not believe this was occurring before build 412. Any ideas? Thanks. Chuck. Chuck, Running 8.0.0.414 I have the second radio button in 3.8 set and the second box checked. Only names bolded are those that should be.
